My daughter had a credit card that had 23% interest. Should the government have paid off the interest? I sold my boat and my camper and added a weekend job to help pay for my son's tuition instead of taking a loan like you did. Should I get reimbursed? I didn't take any FEMA money. I have flood insurance. Should FEMA send me money anyway? Your pitiful justification for taking mine and other hardworking people's tax dollars (many of whom make much less than you do) is sickening.3 points -

14.2, no need to explain. He definitely don't know any Crosby history, you come from a Football (RB) family. By many accounts (of course debatable) your Dad (RIP) was one of the best RBs ever to come out of Crosby/BST. I didn't see him play, but there are plenty that did and they are pretty close in their opinions. I also understand you did great work while up in the Dallas area with A&M Commerce. I left the Crosby area when you were playing HS but I heard good things.2 points -

$100 extra on it a month would've paid it off years ago. with what you make you should've been able to do $1000 extra a month with no issue if you so chose to. Instead you paid the bare minimum, undoubtedly assuming you'd just do that forever with a few bucks a month and never have to fully pay it off. Things worked out even better for you, it appears.2 points -

You've had a loan for 20 years, make more than 4x the loan amount yearly, and haven't even made a dent in the loan? Nobody should be paying that loan but you. What terrible fiscal responsibility. That's inexcusable, as is the govt paying off loans for people doing it. There should be ZERO loan forgiveness, but if it's got to exist, it should be for people who actually need it. You do not. My wife took out 11K in student loans 3 years ago to get her masters and we've paid them off already, and neither us makes anywhere near $100K a year. We've managed that while paying a 15-year note on a mortgage and two car notes. It's really not difficult.2 points -
I completely disagree with this. I have no issue with anyone in the LGBTQ community, but have a major issue with political indoctrination of children. Teachers and schools should be teaching students how to think, not what to think. As a teacher myself, I would never ever consider bringing my politics into the classroom, or providing literature to students that pushes an agenda. Any teacher who does so should be fired. Any school board who encourages it should be disbanded. There are certain issues that for various reasons that the school should stay out of, and let parents teach their kids. This is one of them.2 points

Law Trivia and Discussions
thetragichippy and one other reacted to tvc184 for a topic
It is the Good Faith Exception. It works several ways but it is all linked together under the same rationale. One deals with the liability of an officer (civil and criminal) and the other is evidence gathered. Let’s say that an officer detains a person in Beaumont such as on a traffic stop. A warrant is found on the driver issued out of Houston and it is confirmed by the dispatcher. Obviously the officer in Beaumont can’t tell the guy with the warrant, “I need to drive to Houston to review the warrant and discuss the case with the officer and I’ll be back in about six hours so wait for me”. Heck, what if it was from another state? Wait here, I’ll be back in three days….. The officer serving the warrant in Beaumont is acting under good faith that the originating officer and the judge signing the warrant did their jobs correctly. If the officer in Houston or in another state made a mistake, is it the fault of the officer for making the arrest Beaumont? No. He acted in the good faith that the warrant was valid. If the warrant is later found to not have sufficient probable cause or is faulty in some other manner, it is not the fault of the officer in Beaumont. If it is not a warrant, the same doctrine applies. If Beaumont PD has a robbery and notifies area agencies of the vehicle and suspect description, can an officer from another agency stop a suspect vehicle? A couple have answered it correctly, yes. But only IF……. The vehicle or person detained has to reasonably match the information given by the originating agency. If BPD said two White males were seen in a small dark blue vehicle and another agency stops a pickup of any color with Black males…. Uhhhh, no. By the same reasoning, if BPD puts out information that the suspect vehicle left Beaumont approximately two minutes ago, at 12:05 AM and at 12:09 AM an officer around Orange stops a vehicle that does actually match the description, could the suspect vehicle have driven from Beaumont to Orange in 4 minutes? Again the answer is no. So the officer relying on information from another agency still is required to make a reasonable decision based on the information given. Receiving information from another officer is not carte blanche to start stopping everyone. Then the issue is, what about evidence found after a good faith detention, arrest or search? In the scenario I gave earlier, a BPD officer arrests a guy from Houston on a warrant. After what appears to be a lawful arrest, cocaine is found in the man’s pocket. Is it still admissible as evidence? The BPD officer made a lawful traffic stop (for example speeding) and made an arrest on what appeared to be a lawful warrant but it was later on appeal, found to be faulty. The officer in Beaumont clearly didn’t violate the person’s rights and didn’t violate the Fourth Amendment for making an unreasonable search because he had probable cause to believe that he was acting correctly. Is the evidence still valid to be used in court? I am not sure. From the cases I have seen, it appears as though the US Supreme Court says that it’s okay but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals says it’s not okay. That would make it not okay if either court found it unlawful. So that is a Good Faith Exception. An officer is allowed to rely on what he believes to be valid information from another officer or from a warrant. That officer, however, still has to rely on a reasonable belief which is called “objective reasonableness” by the Supreme Court (the same standard for use of force). Objective reasonableness is defined by the Supreme Court as what a reasonable officer would believe when facing the same circumstances.2 points -

When Crosby is winning I think that it leads to everyone else getting interested because either A) they like to support the region (PNG, PAM, Beaumont Fans) or They really hate Crosby (Vidor, BH, Nederland, used to be Dayton.) So i'd be willing to bet that Crosby being good does wonders for the engagement levels of this website at the very least.2 points -

This whole thread reminds me of a little debate I had with an old friend on Facebook awhile back. She made a passionate post when this all first started about how she'd taken $12K in loans out over 10 years ago and still owed nearly $10K. Blah, blah, blah, what a blessing, etc. So i questioned her on it. When she took out the loans, and for a few years after, she was a single mom struggling to make ends meet. Which I totally get. But she's been remarried for several years. She lives in a $300K+ house. At the time of her post, her husband was driving an $80K+ truck, I'm sure he still is. She has no job. She did some pyramid scheme for a while, but as best I can tell her full time job now is training for those muscly women pageant things. A couple of months after her post about student loans she made a post bragging about her new luxury SUV her husband had bought her. I don't remember what brand it was, but I remember looking it up at the time and the base models started somewhere north of $75K. There should be NO loan forgiveness, but if it's going to happen, the monetary parameters need to be tightened tremendously, and if you're not even using the degree you got, or didn't even finish, there's no way anybody should be on the hook for that. Nor should anyone be paying anything at all for someone who chose "the college experience" at the price of $40-$50K a semester when the same degree could've been had for pennies on the dollar somewhere else. If getting that degree from a prestigious college isn't going to help you make up the money you're paying to attend that institution, it's on you to figure out how to pay it back.1 point

This is a fun joke thread please don't get serious in here. I want your most homer take possible on your team this year. I'll start. Crosby wins every game this year and have 10 shutouts due to exceptional run game and vaunted cougar defense. Both Runningbacks get power 5 offers before the playoffs and 6 defensive players end up going to college to play football after the season. The greatest team ever in the history of Crosby winning a state title after defeating Aledo in a 14-7 Thriller in Cowboyland.1 point

WB @ Nederland scrimmage
bulldawg64 reacted to jake94 for a topic
I went to the scrimmage. Im Not sure how it will translate wins/losses this season, but Nederland is better than last year from what I’ve seen so far. The QB looks much more comfortable throwing and I think a big part of the offense will be his running ability which can’t be showcased in scrimmages. The RB looks good as well and they get him the ball in many ways. O-Line is a work in progress. Not sure what to think on the WRs yet. Defense is overly aggressive at times and the penalties were WBs main offense. We’ve got some nice pieces and are still very young. I think Ned would have won the other night had it been a real game, but that’s just my opinion. I think the Dogs will be much more competitive this season, but would have to improve more to make the playoffs this season. I hope to see it happen. They should be a lot more fun to watch than last season for sure.1 point
