  1. At the peak, we had over 1200 folks online tonight here at SETXsports. (all time record is 1850) Good start to this football season!! Thanks everyone for making this the place to be for high school football on Friday nights in Southeast Texas.

  2. I know an LCM guy that thinks Peevey's overrated. And a BC guy that hates baseball. How does that change the game? We don't need negative energy and people who don't believe. LCM gonna bring everybody to DRH next Friday just like PNG did last season. Because they believe. We need that same following and support for these kids. Pack the house WOS fans. Call everybody u know. This one could be another epic battle. WOS 112%

  5. I actually got to attend this game. I have some thoughts. Let’s start with the bad. Our offense had issues tonight. Shea needs some more time with his receiver corps. Passes were close, but imprecise. I heard the announcer say the words “nearly intercepted” too many times. Ball security was an issue. Now, I don’t think that’s a reflection of Shea’s potential. I think that’s the result of a combination of early season jitters and a very tall, speedy, talented Memorial secondary. Likewise, Nguyen had an uncharacteristically rough night. Here again, early season jitters and a pretty stout Memorial defensive line. We know what Adams and Nguyen are capable of. We saw it last year. The good news here is, everything I’m listing off can be fixed in practice, and we’ve got a coach with a proven track record of fixing these issues in practice. None of this is a talent issue. Take away two fumbles and a bad snap and tonight would have seen a different ball game. Now let’s talk about the good. The Indian defense is a force to be reckoned with. They kept us in this game for three and a half quarters despite the offensive miscues and mistakes. They only started to yield to fatigue for about the last six minutes of play, and it was because they were spending too much time on the field. Our lines are big on both sides of the ball. I watched our offensive line open up some huge holes for Shea, and our defensive line found ways to get into the backfield all night. Richard is a ball player. I’m looking forward to watching this Sabanesque 3-4 defense mature at PN-G. I also want to note that this was mostly a clean game. Not a lot of penalties, what few were had mostly came toward the end of the game, and most importantly, no injuries. Despite the result, I really enjoyed this up until the end. The PN-G fan base was the most amped up I’ve seen it for a pre-district game in a long, long time. I’m glad to see the state title run have some staying power in terms of community support. The band, Indianettes, twirlers and cheerleaders all looked fantastic. Once we get everything firing on all cylinders (I think sooner rather than later), this will be a fun season to be a part of. I’m going to throw some props to Memorial. They have a talented, physical, well coached team. I was really pleased to see their fan support. After playing so many games last year where opposing teams brought so few fans, it’s nice to play another team that can fill the stands. I enjoyed their band - worlds of improvement over what I recall when I last attended a Memorial game six years ago. This is the first time I’ve seen the new field and scoreboard. They looked crisp. All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable atmospheres I’ve seen at a PN-G away game. The Titans have a good season ahead. Lastly, I really like seeing PN-G play talented teams like Memorial early in the season. They do a great job of exposing our weaknesses and telling us what we need to work on. I hope that continues into future seasons. In particular, I’d like to see us keep the series with Memorial alive. Lots of history between PN-G and Port Arthur. Given time, I believe this series will develop into a rivalry. (Revivalry?) Mid-County Madness would be complemented by a recurring South County Showdown.

  6. It's the first game of the season. Both teams competed well but made plenty of mistakes that can be corrected. Fumbles, INTs, and penalties happen in game one. Potentially, there are 15 games left on the schedule. Get better each week and you will forget about tonight's mistakes. PAM's defense will be a nasty tough group. Talent at all three levels. The big guy in the middle and the tall DE are disruptive. Look at your positives instead of the negatives in game one. PAM fans could be married to Halle Berry and would complain that she can't cook. For the good guys wearing purple, I see lots of positives and things to build on. PN-G's defense should be a good group again this year. The offense will find its groove. PAM had a lot to do with PN-G's stalled offense tonight. Keep the rivalry going. Every year these teams should play. Clean game tonight...no cheap shots...just good physical and fast football. Let's go Indians...lots of good things to build on.

  8. They were doing all they could. Had a cable being pinched and shorting out. Replaced it and everything clicked. We also had a audio cable wrong for them. 1st Game jitters but we will get it moving folks!

  9. Both. OF started a freshman QB and had no experienced RBs returning. BC has new leadership that demands accountability and discipline.

  10. Zeno is a WR. He played QB last year because #12 (the QB this year) got injured week 2 or 3 last season and missed the rest of the year. HF is a better offense with #12 at QB and Zeno at WR.

  11. I’m just saying it’s not a rivalry. Find another good team. Vidor took them off already. Just scrimmage them. Last year when our field wasn’t ready they would not even swap home and away from 1 year to another. We had to play at BC. Not signing off on kids, All coaches gripe but why hold a kid back that does not want to play in your program. Scared to lose player to crosstown. Why should LCM be obligated to schedule them. Again play another good team.

  16. As for Ned and the prognostications of doom for this season, all I can say is that I've watched us play them for 40 years. I remember after our game last year thinking that might have been the worst Ned team I'd seen since the 80's and early 90's. I remember thinking last night that your team this year looked more like a Ned team I expect. Take that for what it's worth.

  17. The Dogs played alright for most of the game, but they ran out of gas by the 4th quarter. The Larry Neumann conditioning and tackling drills is no longer prevalent as evidenced by the poor tackling and inability to pursue to the football. I think WOS coaching or there lack of helped the Dogs too. This was not your Hooks or Thompson WOS team. WOS has the talent, it just isn't being utilized effectively. I haven't seen the Dogs run an offense so basic and generic since the late 70' and early 80's. I think our record will be comparatively similar too to that era. It was a long boring game... no energy in the house... lots of big gaps where there there should've been fans and the band was sitting near the Windmill museum. I guess our tradition got cancelled.

  20. "I thought the kids played really hard. We were obviously in really good shape as we weren’t really affected by the weather or with cramps." — Memorial coach Brian Morgan [Hidden Content] Pretty sure Martin is a Sophomore, misprint by the paper.

  21. Our kids were hanging there heads and moving slow toward the locker room at the half. But came back out with the same, if not more, intensity and energy. Nederland exposed some weaknesses. And we have plenty to work on before welcoming the Bears to DRH next Friday. Nederland will get better. But I don't know if we were that bad, or they were that good. Kinda like last season... we didn't really know what we had after shutting them out in week 1. Either way a win is a win. And I'm proud of the way we fought back. The leaders of the team never gave up. And kept everyone else giving 112%

  25. We were the only other "good" team they played also and will play them again in 3 weeks. If Buna is this good this season then Corrigan has no chance against us. They beat us last year so we want that win this time.

  39. Have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw last night. There's much improvement, but still a ways to go. The offsides penalties were RIDICULOUS. Too many drops from the wr's, and a REALLY bad play call to run the same play from the shadow of your own goal line (a jet sweep) after showing your hand right before on a play called dead by penalty. Some tackling issues and penalties too. BUT.....I saw a team that would not quit and did not complain. They fought hard all the way to the end. That's an improvement all in itself. #5 is a true athlete. The QB is the truth too. The o-line is pretty good. Need more stars on offense. Defense.....TACKLE DRILLS PLEASE!! I'm pulling for these kids and their coaches. I think they will surprise some folks this season!!
