From the Beaumont Enterprise: "Port Neches-Groves (2-1) got all it could handle from the gallant Orange County visitors. Paced by quarterback Marcus Turner, Jr., West Orange-Stark led in first downs, 20-13, and total net yards by a whopping 525 to 307. But the Mustangs also led in penalty yards, 105-40. Turner accounted for 254 yards, running for 115 and two scores while passing for 139. Port Neches-Groves passed for only 4 yards due in part to a first-half ankle injury that sidelined quarterback Shea Adams for the entire second half." PNG beat FBM? Really? The PNG defense gave up 525 yards against a WOS team that fielded only 31 players, +/-. They did manage to hold WOS down the stretch, but if WOS would have tried for field goals twice the score might have been 26-20, or maybe 23-20, WOS, at the end of regulation, presuming PNG kicks that last field goal and tries an OSK. I'm really holding my tongue here, but PNG has a tough row to hoe this season just to make the playoffs, unless some changes are made both on defense and offense. And I very seriously doubt that any changes will be made.1 point

After seeing our offense struggle so much against West Orange and PAM, I have to expect FBM to win this one. But, there’s two weeks; maybe PNG can figure out how to put up a few more points. And it’s a home game, so none of the silly “we need to cancel Friday and move to noon on Saturday” shenanigans. Whatever the outcome, it will be good prep for the rest of the season and the playoffs, a chance to get solid experience against size and speed.1 point

Barbers hill at Crosby
Mr. Buddy Garrity reacted to gary-us-bonds for a topic
I don't see why they couldn't. I don't think they will, but I see no reason to believe they couldn't if the breaks went their way. Lee got absolutely worked over by Kingwood Park and Barbers Hill last year then beat PAM and should have beaten LP. They have enough coaching to always be a threat but a lack of athletes leaves them teetering on the brink of getting blown out if momentum goes against them when playing some of these better teams.1 point -

Yes! Everyone is looking at how Crosby could lose this one, but Lee showed some character in this one. They never gave up and the coaches went for it with 2 consecutive 2 Point conversions!!!!! Lee wasn’t going to be denied and this could set them up for that elusive playoff spot. It’s a long shot, but they still in it. Congrats Ganders1 point -

Look what Texas can do with a healthy QB. Bama hurt Ewers and McCoy in very winnable games for Texas. We’ve had some down years while attempting to replace Mack Brown. Recruiting is about to get even better for Texas and we seem to have found a coach. A lowly Big XII team (other’s assessment, not mine) taking on the SEC juggernaut in their house and soundly whipping their behinds on prime time tv makes a huge statement. Texas lost 90% of their offense and reloaded. That’s a huge statement for the coaching staff. I was very impressed with our defense. I really don’t have to accentuate the positives to anyone who watched this game. Can’t let it go to our heads. Oh yeah, Bama led for 2 minutes!1 point

Baytown Sterling (0) @ Barbers Hill (49) - FINAL
Separation Scientist reacted to Justafan15 for a topic
It was great to see Sterling fill the visitor side of the stadium and players/fans have some enthusiasm. I was hoping for a more competitive game. It would be great to see them make a playoff run and start winning for the first time in many years. Last playoff win may have been more than 30 years but I’m not certain. In all fairness, it seems this age group of boys for BH have been really good at every level since 7th grade. They have lots of varsity and playoff experience. They have a chance to do something special this season. BH has a defense to go with some all around pretty good speed at most skilled positions. LBs may be the best in the district and QB play is what they expected this season. They appear to be very deep at every receiver position. They just plug and play. If BH wanted, he’d thrown for 400 plus yards the last two games. All this production has been playing only in 1st half of last two games. Not to get too far ahead, (Crosby could sneak up on them) but in reality LaPorte will give them a good test to see where they, are and PAM will be waiting, hopefully, for them it will be for the district title. After seeing them play, I truly believe they are highly underrated in the state.1 point -

My brother in Christ... Vince Lombardi couldn't win games with West Brook right now. There's so many things wrong there and in the city. Easy to blame coaching, but nobody wants to acknowledge the truth about how terrible the culture of the school and city is. The kids run the school. Discipline is a joke at West Brook. Also, don't just say there's "talent" there, when really, there isn't much. Every year young families move out of Beaumont more and more. The city has to give these kids a reason to love football. It is a basketball city now. If the kids who play basketball all played football too, it would be a different story. But look at the facilities and the fields Beaumont football kids practice on every day. Some of the worst in the entire state. We got 2A and 3A schools with better and nicer stuff than the 2 biggest schools in SETX. That's what is sad and pathetic.1 point

Best Player Ever
bullets13 reacted to Tyler Dixson for a topic
Even if you want to go with Hefner as the collegiate player he has had a hard time finding a role on the team. Weisbrod was a very very good player once he moved back home. Dominated the juco level and then came in and was one of the top 5 players in the confrence for two years. Jamie Weaver averaged 3 points a game at Houston and then had to transfer to Hawaii where he didn’t even end up finishing out playing basketball. If you want to go with the guy who played HS ball in the 40s and 50s go ahead I guess. Point is, those other two have been to better programs, and Hefner was 100% the better prospect, but no one who has played at Nederland has been better than Colton.1 point -

Respectfully disagree. Hefner chose A&M over offers from Houston and Oklahoma. Weisbrod went to New Orleans/Lamar. I'll take Hefner over Weisbrod. Jamie Weaver went to Houston and was on the Phi Slamma Jamma teams. I'll take him over Hefner. Buddy Davis won an Olympic gold medal and two NBA titles in the 50's. He's your winner for Nederland. Don't tell Colton's dad I said that, though!1 point -
