  1. Here's the thing... they had a hall of fame coach in CT. There was petition passed around to have him replaced because he was a "racist." Then he retired. Many in the community had already expressed a desire that the next HC at WOS be black. Because, of course, some people wrongly believe that it's not racist to say "yeah, we're gonna hire a black dude this time." By the time that the applicant list was released, there were only 13 applicants for the position of Head Coach of the winningest football program in Texas. 13. Do you want to guess how many people applied for the last opening for a perennial loser like BC? But don't take my word for it. [Hidden Content] How many of those 13 applicants weren't black? Three or four by my math... and the reason is that EVERYBODY knew that the folks making the decisions in West Orange were going hire a black dude, no matter what... especially in light of the petition that they passed around to get rid of the best thing that ever happened to West Orange Football. So you really shouldn't be too surprised when the people who follow the sport are delighting in the fact that the community/admin's racist ploy to hire "a coach that looks like us" has blown up in their faces. My opinion? WOS should have hired the best guy for the job (regardless of his/her skin color), but it was gonna be hard to find another Hall of Fame coach... and previously playing for one or even working as an assistant under one won't do the trick, as evidenced by the win/loss records of guys like Toby. But you only have yourselves to blame for the mess you find yourselves in now. Who knows? Maybe if you hadn't been so overt in your branding CT a racist and then publicizing the fact that y'all didn't care if a coach was any good, just so long as he was black, you'd have gotten some decent candidates. The public and the admin decided that some things were more important than winning, and they got what they asked for.

  3. Shut Up! I'm a grown woman and I speak my mind just as you do! You have been the one talking the most about WOS business and I have played nicely with you. Most WOS people never speak up for our city, or the kids only to criticize. Question do the WOS school district give LCM money for your school support, if so I repeat SHUT UP!!

Lol black folk business..wow,is that what you think this is?I believe it’s WOS business!Im not black but I’m all up in it as much as I want to be!Taxpayer and district, city and everything else supporter that resides in the city and always have!Comments like that are why things turn into racism…personally I’m done with the whole mess until change happens ✌️

  5. That’s kind of where I land. If you want to include any sub 5As other than Silsbee, you can’t list the Atasccitas, Summer Creeks, etc. And come playoff time when our schools are eliminated, I don’t think most of us have a rooting interest in them like we do with United or Silsbee or Memorial.

  6. His position is one that many others also share. Nobody is against the kids. Although it is a fine line to balance. I believe we've fought for the kids for 2 years. And the kids are the only thing keeping this anywhere near afloat.

    TABC Preseason Polls?

What's laughable is you probably can't name 3 starters for West Brook and can't name 3 players coming off United or Silsbee's bench but you're on here crying about a made-up preseason poll. LMAO...

  10. Just for accuracy, West Orange Cove ISD has a 54.1% African-American enrollment. Not the 99.9% that was posted a few posts ago. [Hidden Content]

  13. I wouldn’t say coaching alone is to blame for the woes of WOS’s season. I’d say people are overestimating the “talent” of this team. It’s a combination of the two. Honestly, I think leaning towards the “having too much talent” aspect of placing blame on the relative unsuccessfulness of WOS is tearing the team and fan base apart more than the hire you don’t like.

  16. But to further clarify.. I'm not saying that WOS should have hired a white guy, or they can't win with a black coach.... that's untrue. I just think that a lot of good coaches of all colors decided to skip the circus down in WOS. The public (through their racist actions) empowered the super/admin to make what seems to be a bad hire. That's my point.

  18. If this happens and Marshall wins out Nederland will be the 4 seed at 4-3 in district That means Dayton loses to Marshall-3 losses and TC will also beat Dayton PNG 7-0 TC 6-1 FBM 5-2 Ned 4-3

  20. Last season's Dayton team may have been a bit stronger than this year's team. They have three tough games ahead of them, including Willow Ridge, regardless of the current WR district W-L record. I'm discounting the homecoming factor, though. I'll say this, though, the Dayton QB has a good arm and throws a pretty pass. When throwing on the run he loses more than a little oomph; and in the 2nd half he (and his coach) was trying to force things, understandably. Anyway, it's always a good game, PNG and Dayton. My only complaint I think, was the length and slow speed of the concession stand line on the visitor side.

  21. There has to be someone on here that knows someone that is control of choosing a coach. Please tell them to find an outside consultant that knows football. Pay them to assess the decisions MB makes, or allows to be made during the game. Get 2 opinions, they will come back with an assessment of bad, bad, bad. I REALLY REALLY REALLY, hoped and wanted success for Coach Barrow. That has not been the case, he should not be the head coach of a big schools football program. There are players that could play college ball on this team. There were players that were there thay came here to Memorial that saw the writing on the wall. They and there parents got criticized. Whos got something to say now? If you see your kids got potential and is not going to get taught and developed in a successful program, why stay? MB has to go for Nederland to become a feared program in the area once again. MB is a great guy, but he is falling short of acceptable year in an year out.

  30. Dude, I’m from Lumberton, not WOS. I may root for one team per district, generally speaking, but I’m not rooting against anyone. If you like spreading negativity and ill will against the Mustangs - which includes its kids, that’s on you. Good luck living like that.

    TABC Preseason Polls?

I was talking more Golden Triangle-ish. You are 100 percent correct that any rankings should include all coverage area teams. But I don’t think of the Houston area schools as SETX which is more what I was talking about (your description of Orange, Jefferson, Hardin is prob most descript, but I was also thinking chambers, jasper and newton counties).

    TABC Preseason Polls?

And Sutherland has taken a step back since HF has taken a decent share of his recruiting pool. To be fair, if Sutherland is the barometer most replacements would be a “step back.” But it’s kind of like having Dan Ray and Cornel back to back at WOS football. Maybe not to quite that extent but similar imo. Unlike some of the Mustang faithful though, it appears to me that the Hawk folks are aware and thankful for what they have. Not surprising though as they are probably the most astute hoops fan bases in SETX from my experience.

  36. Senior night and i think it's pink out too. This is going to depend on which team we get on the field Friday night. Is it the one that scores 50 vs Newton. Or the one that can't buy a point in the first half vs BC. Is it the defensive wonder that held both HF's and Silsbee's high power offenses to their lowest point totals of the season? The ups and downs, highs and lows, are so drastic now that there's no expectations anything will flow from one week to the next. They can't find any solid ground to build on each week. At this point we are exactly in the same position as last season. No progress. Still lost to all the same opponents even though we were home for a few of them. Even though we went to OT with some too. There is no more home field advantage. So now when Jasper steps off the bus Friday we've got our hands full. Hope we get another instant classic that comes down to the final minutes.

No disrespect to any of the kids mentioned but personally I’d take Bush as the best player I’ve seen come through Silsbee in the last decade. There all great players but Bush made everyone around him better
