Going out on a limb here, but if the Harmony coach wants to come to Orangefield, they'd be insane not to give him the job. He has had a noted track record of success at each stop he has made and recently made a run to state. I cannot imagine there is another candidate on their list who is as credentialed as him.2 points

Compliments of the Democratic Party. They are COVID.1 point -
That's why I said it all depends on how systemic the bad is. Under normal circumstances you usually give a coach 1 year to install his system. Second year should show marked improvement. Third year should start competing for a Title. But, like you have stated, it all depends how deep the bad is as to how long it'll take.1 point

LOL!!! All sports huh? Boy oh boy, this is shaping up to be an absolute disaster in Orangefield. I've never understood the rationale of hiring a HFC and AD who wasn't a high level football guy just becuase he might throw the softball team a bone. His primary job is HFC. Let him go 0-10 for three years, while making the playoffs in all other sports, and see how quickly he gets run off. If Jenkins is on the list, and they hire anyone not named Thompson, Joseph or Kay, Orangefield deserves what they get.1 point -

records are window dressing. you sell yourself with your plan (prep, process, vision, community building and relationship etc.) Lot of great coaches with bad records, lots of bad coaches with good records as well. You try to find the ones "doing it the right way" for your best chance at success1 point

Right - this is something I think needs to be underlined. Joseph inherited a healthy program with kids who had won several key games and had had a deep-ish playoff run. He didn’t have to “rebuild” so much as “redirect.” It sounds like Nederland will need to do something closer to a true rebuild. That’s going to be key in how people evaluate the new guy. If the standard is “do exactly what png did and go straight to state,” that’s probably not going to work, because Faircloth left PNG in a state that is ahead of schedule relative to where Nederland is. But, I don’t think we’re talking a several year rebuild. I think Nederland just needs to get kids back , get more kids in, hit the weight room better and structure themselves to go toe-to-toe with the power and conditioning of elite programs. They aren’t far off - If Nederland had 1% improvements across every category of improvement, they become an entirely different team. A lot of Nedeand’s woes amount to just being left behind, not so much getting worse . The last two years, Barrow would probably have gone at least 1-1 against PNG if Faircloth had stayed the coach, because Faircloth built his teams the way Barrow does - Poor conditioning, low strength training, no attention to defense, and just hope you win by two points in a shootout. Joseph doesn’t do that, and he showed that there‘a a recipe for the mid county schools to compete at the highest level. Nederland can do it too, but given the current state of the program it might take a year or two to really see the results. But it could also be immediate, as we’ve seen.1 point

@2wedge didn't state "they haven't had success and been to state before". You said that. He said in a supposition, "I cannot imagine there is another candidate on their list who is as credentialed as him. " It's his opinion, and he stated it as such. No harm, no foul. I'm sure his opinion is based on the assumption that the Orangefield AD/HC job isn't attracting droves of state finalist coaches. Sounds fair to me...1 point -
Things at PNG wasn't as bad as they were towards the end at Nederland. PNG probably had the good players from the halls that were already playing when the new coach got there. Kids quit and never came out because how bad Nederland had become. Get the right coach and start winning and you'll see how many kids you'll have available.1 point
-
With no data, my assumption is participation is down. This is based on anecdotes from Nederland people who at least claim to be aware of kids who might otherwise be playing who are walking the halls instead. And, it seems to follow that if a program isn’t doing well there’s at least a few who walk away. Participation goes up with success. PNG had at least one key player come back between Joseph’s first and second years. That might just be a coincidence (unrelated to the success in Year 1). Also, just given Nederland’s history of having good players, I assume those people still exist even if they aren’t on the team. The only other explanation would be that Nederland just doesn’t have good players right now, which I refuse to believe, and I strongly suspect a new coach will prove me right.1 point

Whoever takes the Nederland will be setting their own ways and culture that’s what happens when a Head Coach takes over… PNG in 2008 2-7 Faircloth comes in set his culture rebuild in year 1 in 2009 11-1… Peevey at LCM year before he got there 1-7 when Peevey arrived 11-3… there’s a lot of talent walking them halls and lot of kids specializing in only 1 sport, gotta get those kids back into the program and play multiple sports. Coaching staff got very stale and ran its course. Gotta stop the family and friends and hiring and start the hiring best qualified coach which I’m hoping NISD has learned its lesson on that one…. Starts at the top and they are making a change a step imo in the right direction.1 point -

Give me a break. They were co district champs 3 years ago and 6-4 the year after that. They won 4 out of 7 district games last season and only two losses were by more than two scores (PNG and TC). Two bad seasons doesn't mean the program has bottomed out.1 point -
Right. It certainly served to emphasize the difference in where the programs were. It’s one thing to have a down era; it’s another thing entirely to have your rival win state while you’re struggling. Like, if PNG and Nederland had both been 2-8 the last two seasons, they’re both probably eventually looking for new coaches, but it doesn’t become such a focus on one school’s success or failure. Regardless, I have trouble believing Nederland doesn’t right the ship sooner than anyone thinks.1 point

Duncanville Gloves??
Rob Corpus reacted to ST413 for a topic
I have seen all the pi s and posts online about the interference call. The most interesting thing to me was someone staying that Duncanville has made a habit of wearing the same color gloves as their opponents jerseys, thus making such calls a lot more difficult to see. I saw some pics from a few games where that appeared to be the case, unless they were photoshopped pics. Does anyone have any insight into this and if thats the case why hasnt there been a rule against this??1 point -
Duncanville Gloves??
Rob Corpus reacted to Coach Moore for a topic
I have debated if I would even respond, but I will since I deal with equipment. Here is the thing, the gloves are legal and not disallowed by rule. If you want to spend the money on it, more power to you. Its part of the game at this point. And PNG overcame a perceived or real disadvantage and won. Now here is the flip side, Knee pads are a rule. As a coach I have to ensure that the athletes are properly equipped, if not I am liable. I have officials come up to me before the game and tell me to cover back plates and I will ask about knee pads. Then I am told we are not the equipment police. See the dilemma? What rules are they going to enforce? I have to make sure my kids are legal before the game, but the other team walks out and they are not in compliance. You say no big deal. But it is when you are trying to teach kids to follow the rules and the people who are in charge of enforcing the rules don't do it. If it is a rule, enforce it or change it, but dont ignore it. My $.021 point -

Duncanville Gloves??
Rob Corpus reacted to Coach Moore for a topic
I can tell you at one time in the NCAA(90's) it was illegal to match gloves to opponent's jerseys. I know this because we wore green gloves against Baylor and we were made to change them. However, there is not restriction on color now. I assume that changed after the grey glove rule. If you can afford to buy gloves that match your opponents, more power to you. I could not afford an extra $250-300 dollars on gloves. There are a lot of equipment rules that are not enforced. Here is the big one. Knee Pads. Knee pads must be covered by pants. Furthermore, the pants and knee pads must cover the knees. No pads or protective equipment may be worn outside the pants. I have asked the officials about this and they tell me they are not the uniform police.1 point -
Duncanville Gloves??
Rob Corpus reacted to PN-G bamatex for a topic
On principle, I don’t think it’s right. It doesn’t just cover up holding. It can also disguise pass interference, horse collars and possibly face mask penalties or others I’m not thinking of. There are potential safety issues. At a minimum, doing so evinces a clear intent to obfuscate illegal activity. I think it should be illegal. In fact, I would support a rule requiring the home team to wear black gloves, if any, and the visiting team to wear white gloves, if any. Problem solved. Having said that, if there isn’t going to be a rule against the practice, fair’s fair.1 point -
Duncanville Gloves??
Rob Corpus reacted to PNG4LIFE91 for a topic
Pretty sure the PI and gloves controversy was about SOC because their colors are BLACK/GOLD/WHITE so the ONLY reason select players, mainly DB’s and OL would be wearing PURPLE gloves vs PNG, POWDER BLUE vs Emerson, RED vs Lovejoy…etc is because they’re PURPOSELY trying to hide PI’s and holding from the officials in order to gain a edge!! Maybe there’s no rule against it, but I think it’s flat out “dirty strategy”1 point -

Have to wonder did they say every playoff team has to have someone get an award? Even the coach of the year, how did that one come about? If you scratch my back I'll scratch yours?1 point -
I'm dumbfounded by these selections, to be honest. How a team that steamrolls the district, whose only "bad" loss was to 6A Vandergrift, and made it to the Region Finals didn't dominate these awards is frankly embarrassing for this district. The 3rd and 4th place teams should not have more players with top district honors than the start to finish 1st place team. The district defensive player is an outside hitter??? Looks like a bunch of sour grapes to me.1 point

BH and Sterling announced theirs on Twitter. Sterlings all-district selections are head-scratchers. Kinda crazy how a 4th place team had so many selections and overall top awards. Curious to see what GCM and Lee awarded themselves, I mean, were awarded.1 point
