  1. Looking at historical records and the records of the guy that just left, it appears that he did a bit better than anyone else and definitely stayed longer than any other head coach.

  4. This is what people mean when they say culture change. Maybe Todd Dodge can help out Nederland boys track program. Or at least get the kids to show up and get organized work outs in…..

I was just thinking out loud, actually. But relative to him being charged with negligence, I think the DA has a good case against him, and Baldwin is grasping at straws. The fact is, he was the final link in the chain, and it was his responsibility to check the gun before firing it. Never take anyone's word for it, no he-said- she-said, it was his negligence that caused the death, in my way of thinking.

  6. I'm glad Kountze is having an improved season. I am. And I believe the Sells kid is a player.. But.. beating up on their district doesn't mean they could give Silsbee anything competitive. Like already said.. not gonna happen. And I personally don't even believe it would be a game.

  7. The list of things that can change between JH and HS is vast. It's more likely than not that JH success won't be the same in HS. 1st and foremost.. 7th grade kids playing against everyone else's 7th grade kids and 8th grade kids playing against everyone else's 8th grade kids is not evenly remotely the same as 9-12th against 9-12th. A grade level of kids playing with either the grade above them or below them.. or both can dramatically change the success/failure compared to when it was just them. Not only do kids mature, gain strength, gain speed, gain size, and gain skill (both physically and mentally) at completely different levels and pace individually, but kids actually WORK and/or gain/lose interest completely different. Forget about the other obvious variables.. like: academic eligibility, transferring (both losing and gaining kids), quitting, reclassification, coaching change, etc. etc. etc. The situation for a Senior IS NOT THE SAME as that same kid's situation was when they were a 7th grader. To think so is idiotic. It's truly funny to me to hear people make predictions based on what happened in JH... might as well add little league as a predictor lol.

  8. It is pretty funny to listen to people talk about scheme and how important it is. If you have the athletes, any scheme can be successful. The key is not the scheme, but rather the ability to coach it, make adjustments and the ability of play callers. Every scheme has the ability to run the ball and the opportunity to throw it. Really, it is all about the ability and willingness to call the plays and when to call them. Plenty of pass plays in the wing-t and slot-t playbooks. Coaching matters, but if you don't have the DUDES......

  12. Nothing agaisnt Breaux - I don't know him, but if you compare resumes with Jenkins, it's hard for me to understand why OF would pass on him...

  13. This is probably the primary reason the chirpers above didn't feel like he was a good "fit". Might get in Little Johnny's way of being the first air raid QB in the history of the Orangefield program. Either way, I do not know Coach Breaux, and I wish him the best of luck. I just can't get over the fact that a coach with state championship experience applied for the Orangefield job and didn't get it. That's probably the darndest thing I've ever heard on this site! If they'd do a little research, the reasons he has had so many job changes are understandable and clearly worked to advance his career. His oldest is heading to Lamar and his younger son is about to be a freshman. Sounds like a pretty good shot for, at least, a 4-year term. If he delivers to Orangefield in those 4 years what he has delivered in Harmony in his 2 years there, I promise you the candidates for the job next time would be significantly better than the list they had for this opening. But, hey, we gon' run da spread!!

  21. Pitchers will NOT get injured from overuse if they are pitching 7 innings every Tuesday and Friday. This is not baseball. I have witnessed softball pitchers pitch in 5-6 games on a sunday coming out of the losers bracket in a tournament. Now, they CAN get injured if they are pitching 2-3 hours every day. But, no one in their right mind would do that. Without Fall, they become 2 seed at minimum. The #2 pitcher is still solid, but she is not a Kentucky commit.

  22. Looking forward to the season… Bellville should be decent. Finished 4th in district last year but still went 3 rounds deep and almost beat a top 10 Davenport team..

  23. Even they don’t really run the Wing T anymore I don’t think… People get bent outta shape about what system to run but if you have the jimmys and Joe’s what offense you run doesn’t necessarily matter for the most part IMO.

When I was a kid, or maybe a young teen, a friend of my dad's was at our house showing him a new shotgun. When I came in and was handed the gun for a look-see, I asked if the gun was loaded, and my dad replied, "I'm not going to tell you". When I broke open the gun and checked for myself, (it wasn't loaded, btw), he proceeded to tell me to never ask if a gun is loaded, always check it for yourself. I've never forgotten that lesson.

  34. The article seems to blame Boeing, rather than Delta's maintenance, for issues with a 20-year old airplane. Anyway, yes, I agree that the airline industry is, and has been for the past several years, experiencing problems much more frequently than in the past. It's pretty scary.

  36. I was @ work once, processing driver licenses etc. This tall skinny kid, maybe 6'2" or so was my next customer. He was changing his address from Bridge City to somewhere in Houston. I asked him if he played basketball for Bridge City. He said no. I was able to get out of him that he was going to school at UH or Rice majoring in architecture. I stopped asking questions after that. Playing B ball is not the cake. If a student works it just right it is at best just the icing on the cake.

  37. It was fun watching the BC student section. They were a hoot. The score was a matter of complete indifference to them. Being behind 20 something to 80 something apparently was not a factor in their thinking. They went nuts at every tiny little thing that went the Cardinals way. The ref calling a jump ball was like VJ Day for them. And there were a couple of times they cheered riotously for nothing at all, nothing at least that I could detect. The adult 3/4 of the stands was a good deal more cognizant of what was actually happening on the court and a little less exultant about the whole thing. With them it was more like, "Ouch" and "Yikes" and finally "Oh well'. Silsbee knows the feeling all too well and perhaps better remembering the Bellville game. If you've been though it there isn't much in this world that's more gratifying than winning a game on the road against a hostile crowd. Usually though there's some little note of disappointment and maybe even a hint of embarrassment in the enemy camp when the score is so lopsided. Not so here. Watching the kid section you'd have thought that BC was 50 points ahead rather than 50 points behind. No sir, they weren't going to let the fact that their guys were being run out of the gym spoil their fun. If you could have gotten their attention and said, 'Guys, look at the scoreboard." I'm sure their reply would have been something like, "Scoreboard? I don't see any scoreboard. What's a scoreboard?" Or perhaps it was just a case of managing expectations. If so it's one of the most impressive demonstrations of that science I've ever witnessed. Today I'm sure that it's ancient history for them. In the words of Ralphie, "In the jungles of kiddom, the mind switches gears rapidly."

  43. I still haven’t figured out why OF fans are in such a hurry to run the spread lol. There are lots of really bad teams running the spread, & we won a ton of games with the Slot T over really good programs. The Slot T fit our athletes well. Parents with very little football knowledge hate On the Slot T all the time, I’ve lived in OF for over 40 years, go look at some of the records we had before the Slot T, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. I hope we go 10-0 next year but LCM hasn’t exactly been world beaters. I’m optimistic but I’m also realistic, and I feel the Slot T was very good for OF.

  46. He has a son that is a going to be a freshman and is a QB. OF already has starting QB that started as a freshman last year. If they bring him in you know he would want his kid to be the QB. That would not sit well with the community because the freshman starter is very well liked by the players and community. OF community is very tight knitted. That’s probably a big reason they shied away from him.

The real issue with the transfer portal isn't the portal itself, it's the student athlete's addiction to the attention the recruiting cycle brings, and the portal gives them an avenue to scratch that itch. These kids are made into mega starts as youngsters, then they sign, and if they do not achieve stardom immediately, they retreat back to the process that made them feel like a star in the first place. It's really easy to get used to being the big man on campus when you are heralded in high school but takes another type of dude to realize that it takes serious hard work to gain BMOC status at the D1 level.
