  1. Cody did try to come back. when they hired Nations but wasn't considered because Nations was in a tight click with the super and some of the school-board members. (which all are guilty of trashing a once revered football program) Hope things change but I don't see it until the good people of Dayton clean house!

  2. Word is those 2 positions are for the OC and DC… state law is you have to post them legally.

  3. That can kill a program. Maybe 5% of the time the "buddy / insider" really is the best hire, but the vast majority of the time the insider is hired just because they are an insider, not the absolute best candidate.

  4. Nederland lining up against PNG last year was a mismatch with the size of the PNG line. coaches from Nederland did a good job with what they had. Next year will be the same results.

  8. I do. The further along we go, the more I wonder how much of the improvement has been Mitchell, and how much has been dropping in classification and having a generational player for the first 3 years after dropping. his only year in 5A he didn't do any better than the guys before him. Once he got away from Central, Ozen, PAM, and Nederland, combined with having the best? player in Lumberton history, they had a couple of good seasons, including the district championship with the fortuitous covid win over silsbee. But since then, we're looking at missing the playoffs 2 out of 3 years, with a 4th place seed the other, which wasn't even a possibility for the guys before him. Would any of the Lumberton teams before 2014 have made the playoffs if 4 teams went? I honestly don't know. I think Mitchell has improved the program some, and the basketball culture in Lumberton to some degree, but I also think it's time to quit throwing his name around with the Jouberts and Greens and Siglers and Sutherlands, etc. like some of his biggest fans like to do. It's great that he has the support of the community, but that doesn't change the results. It's okay for him to just be a coach who had a couple of pretty good seasons with an all-time great player at a school that has traditionally not been very good. Maybe he can get them going back in the right direction, I don't know. .

  9. Given the parameters of the job, this is a prime setup for someone like a current coordinator or experienced position coach to add "head coach" to their resume.

  10. this HJ team is extremely short on studs, but to fair, his “studs” over the last several years have gone on to play D3 and NAIA, mostly due to the fact that he pushes to get them offers. Listening to you one would think he’s had a steady supply of D1 players coming down the pipeline. Still, in his “worst” ever season coaching (two of the best basketball minds on the board say it’s his best coaching job) he’s got a fighting chance to make the playoffs. I made a commitment last year to not talk about Mitchell, as for a time I admittedly criticized him too much for some stuff that happened off the court. I got past that, but the delusions of his fan club led me into a lot of conversations where I still came off as critical of him, and I’ve heard from enough people to know he’s done some good things over there for the kids and in the community that changed my mind about him to a certain extent. A lot of what seemed like criticism of him was just disputing outlandish claims made by his supporters. That said, you like to take shots at "my guy", so I suppose I can at least be objectively truthful about yours. It seems to some degree he's improved the basketball culture in the community, and the team has had some good seasons under him. None of that changes the fact that the fan club is still delusional. You literally came on here crowing when Lumberton got their only 2-game win streak of the season, and their only win against a playoff team. They're 11-20 and need help not to miss the playoffs in an extremely weak district, and you're still on here trying to act like he's the next Coach K. You’re still trying to crap all over Davis, who's never missed the playoffs at 3 different schools over a long career. The truth is, the further they've gotten from that once in a generation Lumberton D1 player, the more Lumberton looks like they did pre-Mitchell. Not sure exactly what that means, but I can make some inferences.

  11. Agreed and I think Dayton is already a perfect example of that, and from what I’m hearing it’s not looking promising. Rumor has it that lots of coaches are not interested in taking the role due to the folks above them that they would have to deal with. So hopefully we end up with a coach that happens to be a diamond in the rough but even then you have to wonder how long someone like that will stay based on the rumors of the issues.

  17. Missing the playoffs in 20-4A is not the same as missing it in 19-4A. But neither hasn't missed just yet. And I think it's been said many times this season. This is one of the weaker HJ teams of late. Coach Davis is doing a great job to have them in position to make playoffs. At least he has more than one win vs. a playoff team this season.

  19. I’ve been reading too much about how your bff at HJ might not make the playoffs with the studs he has.

  20. I have seen that spoken about briefly by some of the talking heads on the Dems side months ago but I don’t think it will be much of a deal. It would almost certainly lose the Dems some votes, which they can’t afford. It won’t likely happen, but what would be even funnier (and stupid) would be to pick somebody like Newsom from California and then pick Harris again for VP like as a consolation. OHHHH!!!! She good enough to be in line to be the President in an emergency … twice… but she is not good enough to get the nomination? Can you imagine the outrage? 🤣🤣🤣 They would be better dropping her all together, and just running with it. But….. It sure seems like a good bit of grumbling from inside the Democrat’s own camp which is practically unheard of. Maybe they will let Biden keep going but I have a hard time thinking they aren’t going to plug the holes in the ship and try to save it and I don’t think that Harris will be the savior.

  21. I’m gonna preach this one more time and then I’ll get off my soap box. The foundation of a successful high school or collegiate football program is a top notch strength and conditioning regimen. These Katy guys seem to understand that really well.

  23. Huntington beat PCA tonight so they will be 1 seed and PCA 2 seed. Huntington will get Buna and PCA gets EC. Both games I believe are Tuesday in Lumberton starting at 6:00.

  28. Was that Cordell for Kountze threw up in the beginning of the game? Heard he was sick but was hoping he was over it. Glad he is toughing it out though. Scales is so damn good… have I said that?

  29. That 1st Q from Scales was special. Kountze better get it going

  30. Kountze better get it together… although not much you can do when Scales is playing that way…

  31. Lee should be about like they have been more or less the last four years. Need to figure out the QB situation. Have 4 or 5 solid skill position guys that will all need to play both ways to some extent. Have an offensive line with several two year starters. Couple of solid linebackers. I have a feeling they will play Joseph at QB and be more of a run first team this year. Sterling has a really good quarterback. I'll need to see it to believe it that they will have a better year than Lee though.

    BUNA NEW COACH

Whitmire is an excellent coach from what I’ve witnessed from outside the lines. He seems to get kids to play far and beyond their capabilities. Having watched Remi when he was in high school in various sports, he gave his all and then some. His work ethic and pursuit of excellence will carry him far. His future is extremely bright.
