In regards to the 3 point shooting. Kountze only attempted three 3 pointers in 2nd half after going 7/15 in first half. Orangefield was the opposite. They were 4/6 in first half but shot 5/15 in 2nd half. At one point Orangefield was 6/9 from three but then finished 3/12. As for the FT shooting, Kountze made a decision in 2nd half to go to the rim and not take threes which drew more fouls, particularly in 4th Q. Plus Orangefield started fouling in 4th Q which put Kountze at the line. Kountze shot a total of 17 FT's for the game but 8 came late 3rd and all of 4th when Kountze started driving to basket. Kountze ended up having one more foul than Orangefield.

Grown men spreading rumors. The same kids played all year long and were eligible per UIL rules. Upping further scrutiny by the UIL one of the transfers paperwork has not been done correctly making him ineligible. Typically the UIL doesn’t review transfers late in the season to avoid this type of situation and the heartbreak it causes the kids. Apparently they are about to start. Coach Egans has coached in Crosby for 20+ years and has always followed protocol. Ruining his integrity now makes zero sense.

That was the game in a nutshell IMO. Kountze was allowed to be so much more physical on Orangefield’s ball handlers, and especially so with Ghost, reaching and hand checking all the way down the court, getting into his body, and grabbing and holding him on every inbounds play. Whereas Sells lived at the line down the stretch. Several weak calls in the second half and OF wasn’t getting that same whistle.

Girls game will be good. Silsbee boys beats HJ by as much as they want. Silsbee has had their number with HJ recently and this is the worst HJ team in past 15-20 years. Just glad both games are being played at same location for both communities.

Very first time these two have played each other in the 1st round. The line; Silsbee -28 I haven't decided yet if I am going to this one or not. It's between this doubleheader and the one at East Chambers. (HF/Vidor and Huffman/WO-S). Leaning towards EC. Just not much of a girls basketball fan but in this situation, it will be the better game of the two at the Montagne.

@AggiesAreWe Thank for the updates and stats, you are appreciated. Good game, playoff atmosphere. Wrinkle had an awesome game, left everything on the court. And he has good sportsmanship. Really nice kid. Sells was motivated for sure. Kountze defended much better and drove to the basket more. Kountze’s bench came up big as well. Good game to lead to playoffs for both teams.

Angleton's and Lufkin's appeals are probably a package deal. They won't put them in the same district. Spring Woods also appealed to move to D10 with HISD schools mostly. As bad as they always are, they don't want to play a team with a pulse. Galveston Ball didn't appeal, so will stay in D9.

I'm only speaking about the numbers. My opinion about game officiating doesn't matter. The foul rule change has something to do with the fact that OF didn't go to the line as much. Now a team's foul count gets wiped clean after the first and third quarters where it used to just continue to add up. So basically the first half of the 2nd and 4th quarters are free to foul without sending a player to the line. Unless it's a shooting foul. The rule change helps a more aggressive team. I would agree that the officiating allowed for a more aggressive style of play last night. For both sides. Did the officials miss some calls? You bet. It happens every game I go too. But I don't think you can lay this game completely at the officials feet.

Their coach is the assistant athletic director. He should know if a players transfer has been approved or not. No excuse for not knowing.

Kountze felt that way in game 2 when Sells fouled out. Turnovers Kountze 10 Orangefield 17 Fouls Kountze 14 Orangefield 13 Fouls were about even. And refs were not bad but did miss calls on both sides. It came down to holding Scales to 7 points.

Wrinkle had a very good game. He did everything he could to get his team back in it. Kid played his guts out. Sells made the decision that his team wasn't losing this game and he played that way. Both teams were spent at the end of this one.

I hope Dade Phelan gets voted out. Enough Rino’s in the political scene already.

What’s done in the dark will come to light. Hate it for those seniors that worked hard all year to get to this point of disappointment. What a way to end your senior season, them kids going to remember this for a long time. Been living in Crosby all my life and never seen a situation like this. i agree that all credit for success should go to the coaches. Likewise, when there is failure all the blame should go to the coaches too.

I get that. But whose to say this could have been a clerical error? He may have been told they were eligible. I do not know how Crosby handles their business in regards to eligibility. The coach may or may not have actually known. But, the bottom line is it does fall back on the coach and the admins.

And he’s very accessible to the students. And not just the athletes. He and his wife are just incredible people.

When a coach knowingly allows ineligible kids to play, yes I consider that cheating. He knows the rules of transfers needing to be cleared, yet played the kids anyway. From what I understand, these same kids did not play in the first round of district, play. If that is true, then this was a deliberate attempt to mislead other teams, which, IMO is cheating.

From what I was told, two transfers were never cleared to be eligible. One from CE King, the other from Channelview. Have not heard anything in regards to kids not attending Crosby or have already graduated. I have a hard time claiming "cheating" here. They played ineligible players. If you want to call it cheating, so be it.

I have a question too. Why is Phelan crying foul on campaign integrity when he is the only one throwing mud in his TV ads? At least from the ads I have seen.

I have met Dr. Taylor a few times and am thoroughly impressed. If there is a President as supportive of programs like him in the SLC I would be shocked.

I know you are joking but Sal and whoever else can call for all the coaching changes you want (and might be justified). But let’s all pray Dr. Taylor is here for a long, long time. Easily the best president Lamar has had in a long, long time.
