  1. First of all, in regards to the #1 seed game. I know that Orangefield wanted to flip and not play but Kountze said no. They wanted to play the game. So Orangefield had to agree to play or concede the #1 seed. As for the superlatives go, I actually thought that Whitmire and Joubert should have been Co-COY. They both did tremendous jobs with their respective teams. I usually don't like Co's but in this case I think it's deserving and would have been the right thing to do. I think the coaches got the MVP right. IMO, Sells is the best player and performed that way all season. I think Scales getting Offensive MVP is right on the money and Wrinkle getting Defensive was the correct call too. IMO, Wrinkle was more valuable to his team but isn't the scorer that Scales is. This is based on some of the games I have watched live and on video. When I talk to folks at the games it's always brought up how Wrinkle is Orangefield's "glue guy" (does it all) but just doesn't have the offensive game that Scales has. All in all, I think the coaches have it right. Just my opinion. No shade thrown anywhere.

  2. Ponder will have to shoot as well if not better than they did today from 3 to have a chance. I feel like its very similar to an Argyle Silsbee type game. Ponder has to force Hitchcock to play at a slower tempo to have a chance.

  3. Bristow transferred in from WF Rider last year. As did his sister, who led Holliday to the state title last year. She’s playing at Iowa State now.

  4. I wish you'd quit pretending that 18-13, 12-6 is somehow better than 9-22, 5-13.

  6. I can agree with that. Discussion is a way to learn. One or both of us may learn something from it. That's what's wrong these days. We have an "all or none" concept. If Reagan and Tip O'Neil hadn't learned to reach across the aisle, Reagan would have been a much less effective President.

  7. You should've posted this on the pro sports forum since it has nothing to do with Dotson.

  8. It doesn't matter what any of us think. It's the district coaches' decision and they picked the best player on the best team so it can't be that egregious. I do think there should be some accountability with these votes, though. These are public schools so the voting should be open to public record. Maybe they could even do it at a place like Twin Peaks and people could present their case with film and stats. Then we could see who voted for who without all the backwoods politicking. I think I would go to that all district meeting.

  9. I’m votin’ Republican in the Primary, ya’ll. We libs can use our vote where it will count. Right now that’s not the Democratic Primary. I’m going to vote against Janice Holt. How a trustee of a public school system can support vouchers is incomprehensible to me. I don’t want my school tax dollars going to fund any private school. That position is untenable for someone elected to govern a public school. Vote Bailes.

  10. I appreciate your honesty and the vote for my son. Not saying you are saying this, but I am. I dont give a dern if they are a 19 year old senior or a 14 year old freshman, the best players in the district should go on the 1st and 2nd Team list and they should be placed on those lists according to their production, not how long they have been in the program or how it isnt fair that their 2-10 team didnt have anyone represented in the selections. This is Varsity Basketball, the best kids are named to the best spots and the awards should reflect that. I have said it before, but these are kids and we have a moral obligation to get it right. Last years voting was an absolute joke and lost a lot of credibility for what happened in that room.

  11. I went back and looked and I had Scales as my NCOTY. As for the other all district picks, I recognized some names on there. Mostly seniors were picked last year for both 1st and 2nd teams.

  12. I thought Sells played better defense and handled the ball better than Donald. So no. I would have to go back and see what all the superlatives were for last year but just off the top of my head, Perrault should have been MVP.

  15. Alright help me and the rest of the slow folks in this thread out. If you're not comparing Kobe to Dotson then how are we supposed to interpret "if Kobe had this same injury and it was a game 7… he would play and likely drop 40"? What are the context clues in that statement that we are missing? Please help us understand what it means.
    1 point
  16. Then why bring Kobe up in this thread if intent was not to compare? Kobe Bryant is completely irrelevant to this situation. Was completely unnecessary to bring it up.

  17. As an African American man who grew up in Beaumont Texas, I am the last person who would try to bring down one of our kids. (We DO NOT do that) That makes absolutely no sense and I’m not sure how or why someone who is not from where I from is insulted. No idiot in their right mind would compare a professional hall of famer to a 17 year old kid. I guess I need to give a lecture on context clues/ reading skills. If your understanding is bad that’s one thing. We in the Pear Orchard are bout uplifting our community and wanting our kids to be successful. I’ve been going to the state tournament since 1986 and I want BU to win it again. It’s unfortunate Dotson got hurt. My prayers are up for him and his family. I also pray that the level of comprehension some people have is improved. As of right now… nevermind. Let’s go BU! The only thing good from Round Rock is Round Rock Donuts!

  23. in a thread discussing a 17-year-old high school kid's injury, you posted that if Kobe had the SAME injury, he would play and probably drop 40. That's the literal definition of comparing one to the other. Let's get back to the game.

  24. Throw book smarts out the window, son. You brought up and compared an 18/3 high school kid to arguably a top 5 player of all time. Your common sense, or lack thereof, should've told you that one probably should've been kept in your almighty think tank.

  27. Stil not sure what the extent of Dotsons injury is. And again - this Kobe fun fact has nothing to do with a high school kid. Just pointing out how he willed through an avulsion fracture in his index finger (shooting hand) essentially for an entire season and won a nba championship: Fun fact: Kobe Bryant won the 2010 Championship while playing with a broken index finger on his shooting hand We hear a lot about Michael Jordan's Flu Game and how tough and legendary his performances are. But as always with Kobe, there are a lot of things that tend to get forgotten and overlooked. One such tidbit is the fact that he played in all playoff games during the 2010 championship run and won a ring while playing with a broken index finger in his shooting hand. Essentially, he re-crafted his entire shooting motion to adjust to the injury and played through it.

  28. LU beats Houston Christian 78-68. Lamar finishes regular season 18-13, 12-6 in conference. They have clinched the #4 seed and a first round bye in the tourney. A Nicholls St. loss tomorrow night at Southeastern will move the Cards up to the #3 seed.

    District 21 State Rep Race

So where did Phelan’s $9 million come from, local donors? I can only find Covey with almost $1 million but I am still looking. I am assuming they some of these pages aren’t updated. You define radicals as anyone that you don’t agree with. I guess school choice is radical. It is certainly okay if you don’t like conservative politics but that doesn’t make them radicals. It only means that you lean left and don’t agree.

  34. Doing this as a paid professional is one thing. No need for a kid with a bright future ahead of him to risk that future by making an injury worse. Tough decision and heart breaking but its a decision not to be taken lightly. One made by family first and coaches second.

  35. I’m much more concerned about the border, and I’ve stated I’m voting for him. But I can understand people not wanting to vote for him for the reasons I’ve stated. He went out and aggressively condemned everyone who wasn’t behind him, both on social media and by endorsing people who stepped in line with him, all the way down to fairly insignificant races. Consequently, many of his candidates weren’t very good, and it hurt us in the midterms. It would be easier to make a list of people he didn’t try to ruin or have removed from office. we’re in agreement on all of those people being narcissists, but he takes it to a whole new level. And yes, I’m tired of talking about it as well.

  38. I agree with this. But also I see why many are leaving the public school system for private or home school….when nonsense is being pushed and taught to children and when govt is calling parents terrorist when they want to protect THEIR children this is what you get and you can thank your self and your friends for the lost faith from those that pay taxes and also agree with @myrecordwashorrible taxpayer can run for office. Don’t like it vote person out

  39. Disagree. Tax payer in the community has a right to run for office on the school and have input on the local district regardless of that stance. If the local community disagrees, vote said individual off the local school board.
