  1. I know I’ll get blasted for saying this, but the finger-pointing is what escalates this and these types of events. People feel they can ONLY be on one side and the “other” side is to be hated. This is THE United States of America. Let’s come together, pray for this man and pray for OUR country. See through the smoke screens, wade through disinformation and let’s be Americans and fight against tyranny, socialism, Marxism and things contrary to our independence. Okay, I’m stepping off my soapbox.

  2. I’m going to say this as I’m sure many here have at least thought it. I don’t think this is a walk in the park for DJT, the presumptive nominee. He better pick a good running, mate, and he better hope Joe Biden keeps screwing up. This will be closer than we think. For those who have not considered that this race may be close, takeoff the rose colored glasses.

  3. A couple of questions: 1) Why the need to go “outside”? A good department is one that raises and encourages those with leadership/management capabilities. BPD routinely sends people to LEMIT/LCC (Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas / Leadership Command College, SPI (Southern Police Institute), and the FBI/NA (National Academy). Each of these exposes leaders to current law enforcement trends and practices. 2) BPD needs a change - why? The department serves the needs of the community, works to be involved in the community and is transparent during officer-involved incidents. 3) Beaumont has a high crime rate, therefore we need a change. BPD successfully works these scenes and has a higher than average clearance rate. The department does it’s job, and is constantly working to address high crime areas and community concerns. It is a slap in the face to every member of the department to look outside and promote the idea that a “fresh” perspective is needed. The 260 sworn officers of BPD dedicate themselves to the safety of the citizens, whether that be emergency operations, routine patrol or specialized units (traffic, SWAT, etc). Deputy Chief Plunkett is ready, capable and eager to lead the department into the future. I know him and I trust him to lead my two sons and brother (who are members of the department). I retired from BPD, and my father worked there. I had a great-grandfather who was killed in the line of duty as a Beaumont officer in 1925. I know the department and still work daily as a state officer assigned to a federal task force that works hand in hand with BPD. I was raised in Beaumont and know how hard those guys work and care about the city of Beaumont.

  4. The irony here is that the dems best chance of keeping the presidency is if trump runs. If he’d been killed today the republicans could’ve replaced him with just about anybody and stomped a mud hole in Biden.

  5. It’s possible to hate someone and not want them shot. That said, there’s probably some guys in this thread who would be happy if Biden got shot, so you could be right

  6. I have read that a person was arrested and another that said a person was “down”. I usually translate that to, no one has a clue and at this point everything is a rumor or speculation.

  9. DJT looked great at that first debate when compared to Biden-and Biden wasn’t punching back. Despite that Trump is still only leading by a point or two in most polls… and well within the margin of error. We ought to be asking ourselves “why did we nominate a guy who’s in a dead heat with a potato?” I suspect that we’ll have a new Dem nominee in August, and unless their choice is so egregious as to infuriate democrat/undecided voters who are being forced to support a nominee who wasn’t selected by the voters, but rather the DNC… we’ll have a new President elected in November. People don’t want Biden, but they don’t want Trump, either. Give the masses an alternative to these two and they’ll take it. And I wouldn’t count out Harris. The fact that Trump had to take 10 days off of the campaign trail after the debate is concerning-he’s an old dude. The fact that Biden is a terrible choice doesn’t change the fact that Trump is an equally terrible choice to anybody that’s not rocking some of Trump’s merch.

  10. I have known Jimmy for over 30 years but never worked for him. I have worked dignitary security with him. I have never known him to be anything but a professional police officer but certainly working for him may not be the same. Through my many contacts with BPD, I have never heard his name brought as a problem. I also know that working with city council issues myself, their agendas and police goals are not always the same. About 20 years ago I was speaking with another sergeant about officers assigned per shift and complaining about poor response times due to staffing allocations per shift (I believe called a watch at BPD like 3rd watch). Not in hiring more officers but simply shifting manpower around. I learned a valuable lesson during that discussion. The other sergeant who was junior to me said something like, “You were looking at it as providing police service in a timely manner. The City Council is looking at it as an money issue”. He was correct. There was a chance that once or twice a week they might have to pay a couple of hours overtime due to a serious call coming in late in the shift. I was looking at it as providing a service to the citizens and they were looking at it as possibly costing $200 more per week out of a $21 million annual budget. Our goals and their goals don’t always match. They will say that they do though.

  12. Channel 6 is being misleading with this news article. These are recommendations, not law, like what Channel 6 is inferring. Only thing required is the cooling stations for outside practices. I have had a coach message me about this and he spoke personally with Dr. Harrison. He says the cooling stations are the only thing that's required. This other stuff is just recommendations. Channel 6 has had a few things wrong here of late. smh

  13. Sometimes there is a definite need to go outside to change an agency’s culture and behavior. Been there, done that. It is also true that if there are no major problems within the agency, going outside is likely not the best option. If BPD doesn’t have an internal issue with culture, going outside probably means that someone is looking to check boxes. Look at some of the fiascos of larger cities in this country having issues with going outside to hire a new chief.

Trial judge ends the trial of Alec Baldwin. The state withheld evidence favorable to Baldwin. Dismissal with prejudice which usually means that the case cannot be refiled. Case closed.

  20. It's like this..... "there are more black people in prison that others"-that is a fact. "That is proof that the legal system is racist." That is an opinion. There could be hundreds of reasons why there are more black people in prison per capita, but it's not just "systemic racism." The police aren't stopping young black men on the sidewalk, minding their own business, and sending them to prison for "being black." "Black home ownership is low compared to other races." Once again, a fact. "....caused by the practice of redlining and systemic racism." Now we've strayed of into the realm of opinion, when there are literally hundreds of reasons why that number is lower. Did it play a part? Possibly. But how much of a part did it play, compared to other causes, like the breakdown in the nuclear family, high incarceration rates, people fleeing rural areas for larger metro areas, etc? That's not systemic racism. Blaming all of life's misfortunes on racism is the equivalent of saying that all of the bad things in life occur to you "because nobody likes me." You're broke? "Nobody likes me." Dropped out of school? "Nobody likes me." You live in government housing and have very little personal wealth? "Nobody likes me." That's how dumb blaming everything on racism sounds. I wish that the black community would focus on identifying the actual causes of the discrepancies of outcomes, instead of just saying "because nobody like us." They freely admit that we (non-blacks) want to emulate and/or steal their ideas when it comes to entertainment, but still hate them so much that we try to keep them broke? Ben Shapiro asked, and I've parroted him many, many times.... "Can you point me towards a law, policy or regulation that exists in 2024 that is racist towards black people? Because I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you to fight that injustice." But instead all you get is opinion. "Look at the percentages... that proves racism." No, it doesn't.

    Alec Baldwin

When I was a kid, or maybe a young teen, a friend of my dad's was at our house showing him a new shotgun. When I came in and was handed the gun for a look-see, I asked if the gun was loaded, and my dad replied, "I'm not going to tell you". When I broke open the gun and checked for myself, (it wasn't loaded, btw), he proceeded to tell me to never ask if a gun is loaded, always check it for yourself. I've never forgotten that lesson.
