I concur with Chester about the back room scuttlebutt. The one thing about local candidates is that the powers that make a selection know or “have heard” about the person. That is where personal animosities or favoritism come into play. I have seen it up close and personal in a chief’s selection. Particularly when an outside company or assessment center is brought in, they don’t know anything about the candidate’s history except what is put before them in the process or in other words, don’t come in with prejudice or preconceived opinions. That is generally the point. Let’s look at qualifications, work history, personal history or involvement such as in the community, ability to answer critical questions, knowledge, etc. and not who likes or hates the candidate. So with no knowledge whatsoever about this particular process for BPD, there was a chance that Plunkett would have never been chosen, perhaps as Chester said, because of a previous lawsuit. Assessing by qualifications, Plunkett was in the top four. Then the politics come into play (my opinion). It’s like, “Sure he had the skills, vision and demeanor to lead but what about…..”. Again, with no knowledge of this selection, I have been fairly close to the same situation (not me and I would never apply to be in that position) and knew that a local candidate who was in the final four, no matter how qualified, was never going to be the chief. He is a close friend and I didn’t mention it to him until a couple of years later as to why he wasn’t chosen. I will vouch for the fact that the claims against him were ludicrous. That made no difference. He was never going to be the chief.2 points

According to 12NewsNow he was #5, and just outside the final 4. They are saying that Plunkett was passed over due to an old law suit. Now, that law suit had no merit, but that (according to the article) was the reason he was passed over. I believe Plunkett would have done a great job, but if this is the compromise that makes all sectors of council and the community happy, then this is the best case scenario for all. I don’t look for there to be too many changes to the upper administration. Tim Ocnaschek will do a fantastic job.2 points

The only terrorist acts I’m aware of on American soil are either domestic (Oklahoma City), or committed by Islamic extremists who used northern ports of entry ( 1993 WTC bombing and 9/11). So what’s your fake news point? Border crossings are down. Trump shot down a bipartisan bill endorsed by INS by using puppet Mike Johnson to keep his border charade up.1 point

Lufkin is going to be a load for anyone to play this year. Folks can not compare them to the last three years talent-wise, except a couple of the same coaching are still there. Lufkin has wasted more great talent under our OC at Lufkin than I can count, hopefully the talent itself on that side of the ball will supersede over that issue. Not worried about the defense, there are some rough dawgs on that side of the ball.1 point -
Yes ma'am. Probably in a certain demographic, that may be true. Something to learn about polls and statistics, they can be slanted to show favor on just about any stance you want to take. Also, polls are simply a snapshot in time. Kamala is going through a honeymoon phase. Excitement is everywhere. Lol. But as James Carville, a Democrat strategist puts it, "This kind of giddy elation is not going to be very helpful much longer ’cause that’s not what we’re going to be faced with." Don't trust polls until you evaluate where they were taken, who took them, who reported them and what demographic was targeted. If I was to simply guess from what I have been extensively reading, Trump leads overall with likely voters by a couple or 3 points, and that will only rise as people begin remembering who Kamala really is, how she voted in the past and what little she has really done in the last3-1/2 years. If the Democrats were smart, they would re-rent out the basement they had Joe stuck in during Covid and put Kamala in there.1 point

Far from true. I have first-hand knowledge of this. My Alabama born & bred father-in-law thought it was funny to teach his grandkids (my children and others) racial epithets including the "big one" which will get you banned from life and sent straight to Hell in today's climate. He was getting up in age and decided to vote for Biden because he heard that he would get more benefits from the Democrats. 100% true story. He and I discussed it while NASCAR was playing one Sunday afternoon, but after the election was over. I explained to him my opinion on his erred thinking. All in all, he was a very good man who was raised in a different time and was very racially prejudiced - a bigot, using your words. He still had a Biden sticker on the back of his pick-up truck when he died. That's the problem with stereotypes. They are slung around like gospel and used for and against people based on an oversimplified image or idea of a person.1 point -

Obama Doesn’t Believe Kamala Harris Can Beat Trump!!

Here’s the thing… your “better” and everybody else’s “better” won’t be the same… or even close. 1 out of 6 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Do you think they’ll be likely to vote for a man who brags about sexually assaulting women because they prefer his tax policies? Their “better” and my “better” won’t be the same. If your mom and dad came here illegally in the 80s, had you, worked their tails off to provide for a family without taking handouts, and now you’re old enough to vote… are you going to vote for a guy who’s promising a mass deportation of people like your own parents? Probably not. For some people it’s about abortion… for others it’s the social safety net. Regardless of how strongly you feel, but at the end of the year nobody cares about stats, talent, or the playbook. The best team is the one hoisting the championship trophy… not the coulda/woulda/shouldas. The purpose of our type of government isn’t to win a one-vote majority and then force our beliefs on everybody else. The purpose of government is to negotiate out policies that we can all tolerate. Both sides have lost sight of that.1 point -
