  1. Congrats to Dayton. One thing for certain about Coach P is that if Dayton can produce a performance this solid in the opener he’s going to have them looking twice as good by the middle of district play. That used to be nice to look forward to.

    23-6A...... WOW!!!

Summer Creek, Atascocita and North Shore defeated their Week 1 opponents by a combined score of 115-7 … their opponents were Shadow Creek, Lamar and South Oak Cliff. District 23-6A is gonna be unbelievable in 2024 West Brook and United are deliriously happy they are no longer in this district.

  3. Some observations from me standing on the sidelines last night. Both teams had key personnel playing both ways. HF had WR Pirtle and WR Starns playing Strong Safety and Linebacker (Starns playing defense is a first). LC-M had their QB #0 playing Safety but more importantly had their starting RB Fuller playing inside LB. Having those offensive guys playing key defensive positions is a tell that both teams defense needs help. HF lost 8 starters from that side of the ball so early on having some key guys play both ways is probably necessary. Peevey did exactly what I thought he would do and that was play "keep away" when he was on offense. They ran the ball majority of the time (I think that is their strength and early on will be HF defense weakness) and ran the play clock down on every snap. LC-M tried to limit HF offensive possessions as much as possible. Best defense was keeping HF's potent offense on the sidelines. Conditions were not good. Rain and muddy field limited passing game and somewhat the run game. HF was able to complete some passes but it was mostly from HF QB Braxton biding time with his legs and the secondary finally breaking coverage, QB is much more mobile this year than last but I will like to see how he plays against a much quicker and faster defense. He alluded some sacks but LC-M was not very fast on defense. A quicker defense probably gets at least 4 sacks last night, some with large yardage losses. Both teams struggled with the conditions. Will like to see these two later in the year under better conditions to see what each team can really do.

  4. 12 years ago they had enrollment of less than 1,000....now they have 3,300. Imagine if Silsbee had 2,000 more students dropped in on them, none of whom play football, then they have to be in the district with North Shore, Summer Creek, Atascocita and CE King. They would get their butts worked over something fierce every weekend then all the good players would find a more reasonable place to play where they would have a chance. They are a 3a or 4a school playing in a 6a district. No one would want to subject the self to that, so likely their better players went somewhere else.

  6. Let’s start with the good. Tyson Henry reminded me of Isaiah Nguyen in how he runs. With time for Henry to develop, I think he and Chatagnier will strike a dynamic similar to the one Chatagnier shared with Nguyen. We saw how that worked out last year. Bailey and his receivers corps both looked good once the offense found its rhythm. Same goes for the OL. The defense forced six turnovers, only giving up ten points to a fairly talented (if poorly coached) 6A team with an OU commit and as much speed as we’ll see all season. Perhaps most importantly, the stellar in-game adjustments we’ve become accustomed to from this coaching staff were on full display; I took particular notice of how the passing game exploited the seams that were opened when Klein Oak stacked the box early to stifle Chatagnier. McDaniel’s still the best high school DC in America, in my book. In the end, we walked away with a three possession win in enemy territory. It was a strong first outing for the 2024 Indians. Now let’s talk about the bad. Two drive-killing false starts and two fumbles, including one scoop-n-score, within spitting distance of the end zone during the first ~15 minutes of regulation. A bobbled snap on a PAT attempt that, thankfully, worked out for an unintentional two pointer. Some bad snaps on punting attempts that, thankfully, didn’t cost us anything. It’s hard to complain about a 22 point victory over a school with a thousand more kids to build a team from. All in all, this was a good win for the Indians. Change two or three key moments in the game, however, and this easily could’ve been the Indians’ third consecutive season opener loss. The main thing is that we know what we need to work on. The offense needs to work out some stiffness. Defense has a minor size issue in the backfield and needs to do a little work on tackling. Special teams needs the most work of all. I trust Joseph & Co. to iron out those kinks. We’ll have another good season this year. Will it be another history-making season? Only time will tell. 😎

  8. This win extends Silsbee's regular season win streak to 24 games.

  9. Vidor had opportunities to win this game, but either fumbles or penalties costed them. Refs missed numerous calls on Silsbee and the clock operator didn’t help the pirates tonight.

Let me see if I can help my buddy with a reverse jinx (attn gambling gods - for spread purposes only): I think the Rams are going to need more points.

  15. You can look at all of the data and analyze it however you want. If you don't live in or near this area, you really have no idea. No disrespect to anyone, but this has totally changed just about every facet of life in the Cleveland area, not just CISD.

  22. Tackling has been really poor in this second half, especially on the edge and on kickoff returns. Extremely uncharacteristic.

  29. First, yes those kids are in the district. (not all attend regularly). Also, it's more like a hand full play football, not some. And a few of those parents work and pay taxes. The rest do not. Now my sources to all this info is very good. I have a family member who lives in Cleveland ISD and her kids go to school there. I also have a friend who is in law enforcement over there and works that area daily. I also know a coach on staff at Cleveland very well. They all confirm what gary has posted. What gary posted above is all true. The fact is Cleveland only has a 6A enrollment because of this "alien" community that is geographically within the Cleveland ISD boundaries. Cleveland has a 6A enrollment with 4A facilities and 3A football (based on participation numbers and talent). It's a no win situation and will only get worse. Over half of that "alien" community do not benefit the town of Cleveland. It's a terrible situation. My cop friend says it's like a third world country over there and the Mexican Cartel has a big claim to that community. Very sad to say the least.
