From what I understand, the officer that shot, was THE mental health responder for the department. Most qualified and still got the crap beat out of him before he could defend.

On the issue of mental health and the police, the discussion most of the time at some point turns to, the police didn’t know what they were doing, they had no training, they immediately resort to force, etc. In the 254 counties in Texas it would be extremely conservative to say that the police encounter 25 mentally ill people daily somewhere in the state. From experience there are probably more instances than that in Houston alone but let’s err extremely on the side of caution. That means that roughly 10,000 mentally ill people come into adversarial contact with the police annually. All Texas police officers must go to Crisis Intervention Training and deescalation training. So an unfortunate incident like this happens. The cries go out… the police aren’t trained! They look simply to use force!! All the while ignoring the 9,999 that didn’t end in deadly force. The actual number is probably 35,000 contacts each year but if one goes bad…. 34,999 are ignored. I have brought as many as three people to an emergency crisis center in a single day as a regular patrol officer. That is one officer on one day. Now add 25 ,000 Texas officers for a year.

I remember Mathews said they had the smallest enrollment in 5A and the slot-T would offset the numbers advantage somewhat. Dropped down to 4A where they are the largest school in district and still run this offense. BC, LCM & Lumberton have done proved that teams with the same athletes can run something other than the slot-T but Vidors still doing it. Mathews 117-124 gets to appoint his replacement ,an old school chum DuBois which is only there to build up his retirement. VISD Superintendent Jay Kilgo lacks backbone or he wouldn't let Mathews make his choices for him. The program over there is being held hostage by the slot-T and the former coach

The fact that CalPreps has WB as a 2-point dog to Lumberton, never mind a Lumberton team that lost 37-0 last week, feels like a sign of the apocalypse. That being said, I think WB will win by at least three touchdowns.

I don't mind the slot-t when its ran with the right personnel. The past few years Vidor has not had the right personnel to run it effectively. The QB Vidor has had the past 2 years is a 4 year starter on the baseball team with a D1 baseball scholarship. The kid is an athlete. Let him get outside of the pocket and make a couple easy throws or pull it down and run.

HF is on the rise, and EC is going to most likely continue to drop, or maybe do what they do generally every year, which is have a good regular season against a bad schedule and then lose in the first round half the time, the second round the other half. At the rate things are going I don't think EC is going to do much in sports outside of soccer in another 5 or 10 years.

I say Nederland in a close one. I would imagine WOS will be a better tackling team than what Lumberton was last week. I am thinking that the pass game by Nederland will have to show up to clinch the win and Nederland is going to have to secure tackles more consistently in the open field than they did last week.

If West Brook doesn't win, Langston needs to go. WB and Lumberton have never played, before, as a game between the two would never have been beneficial to either team. West Brook would have crushed Lumberton easily. Of course, times have changed, and here we are.

Nederland is not winning 5A DII state championship this year. Hitchcock is not winning 3A DI state championship this year. I am willing to wager a large sum if you care to bet. Now, this doesn't mean that Silsbee will not lose to those teams, but pump the brakes on the state championship talk.

But, that's not letting the Silsbee coach off the hook. I had them penciled in to win State in 2022 but that didn't happen. So, I'm not as high on the Silsbee coach as I once was. But, between the two, Smith gets the nod!

They get Nederland next, and their the next 5A div2 state champions, then West Brook, and who knows there, loaded with numbers, then Hitchcock , next 3A div1 state champion, then H F, the predicted District Champion.
