The Deer QB is pretty talented. He must be 6’5 if he’s an inch. Good arm. But, a lot of his weapons graduated last year. Their O isn’t quite as potent. But, they’re still—as usual—a big squad. They do have one speedy receiver who is dangerous. I think his number was 5. RB seems to be by committee. Again, the QB may be their best runner. Hard to bring down. Playing at Abshier is always a tough task. Well coached team as always. Just never really has the speed to compete against the NS’s. They have usually had the misfortune of having to face NS first round. So, they’re usually one & done. Different district this year. I don’t think they’ll be able to beat Dickinson for the district title. But, they should be in the mix for PO’s.2 points

PN-G bamatex and one other reacted to OlDawg for a topic
I have to be a homer. As far as the game, LP is a different animal than Klein Oak or BU. I’m a little confused on them this year so far as I see a lot of tinkering, and I wonder how much emphasis they’ve actually put on winning vs. staying healthy and trying to find other offensive options. As it stands right now, the QB is still a game manager vs. being an offensive threat in any way. The RB’s are the offense. The D has given up some big plays on trick plays and long passes. Special Teams have been well above average. In both games so far, Ive seen multiple new plays and players. So, I’m not sure what to expect against PNG.. If the pattern holds, I’d expect to see a heavy dose of #3 to the right behind a pulling LG and traps. But, that could all have been done for a reason I’m unaware of. If the first two games were more to work on things, it will be easy to tell early on by the play calling. I’d expect the staff to put more emphasis on trying to win this game going into district play. Hopefully, it will be on Texan Live, or broadcast somewhere.2 points -

I remember some of those Katie La Porte games, I was at the game I believe in the playoffs when it was done at Memorial Stadium off of I 10. Can’t remember the name of it. It’s where former teammate Craig James played for Stratford all of his games. Anyway, those were some great games And I remember watching a great coach team get beat by an even better coach with a little less talent La Porte team. Great memories. i’ve been in Texas the last two weeks I didn’t get to attend any high school football games, but went to University of Texas and Colorado State game and just watch some games but if All still in Texas, I would love to go see the Hill versus La Porte. Hill has one of my former players, Chance Nelson , coach of wide receivers, and I’m familiar with La Porte‘s offense. In my opinion, Coach needs to open it up a little bit to make La Porte really dangerous. He didn’t do that at Dobie with a lot of talent. He was too predictable a teams good defense coordinator could defend them very easily! He leaves a lot of points on the field with his lack of innovation.1 point -

The D-backs' Pavin Smith had the game of his life. 3-4 with 3-HRs, including a 3-run HR, grand slam, and solo shot for a total of 8-RBIs. Before the game, my son and I watched JV warm up throwing long toss in the outfield. He kept meeting with a trainer. I did not see him give facial expressions or body language that he was injured but something is off. In the first inning, his 4-seam fastball was between 94-97. In the third inning it was 88-90. When Smith came up to bat in the 5th inning, fans were yelling, hit him, throw it at him, back him off the plate. Others were yelling, walk him!!! He hit the solo HR. One of those games for the Astros. Day off tomorrow...welcome the Okland As on Tuesday night for one dollar dog night.1 point

House GOP releases scathing report on Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan
Reagan reacted to LumRaiderFan for a topic
[Hidden Content] From the article: Texas Rep. Mike McCaul, the Republican chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released a scathing report that took a fine-toothed comb to the military's botched 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal and highlighted areas of serious mismanagement. The Republican-led report opens by harkening back to President Joe Biden’s urgency to withdraw from the Vietnam War as a senator in the 1970s. That, along with the Afghanistan withdrawal, demonstrates a "pattern of callous foreign policy positions and readiness to abandon strategic partners," according to the report. The report also disputed Biden's assertion that his hands were tied to the Doha agreement former President Trump had made with the Taliban establishing a deadline for U.S. withdrawal for the summer of 2021, and it revealed how state officials had no plan for getting Americans and allies out while there were still troops there to protect them.1 point -

KF89 reacted to Mustang1980 for a topic
Watched entire Mustang vs Nederland game and here is my take. Mustangs definitely look more comfortable in the 50. Much more organized on fits. Great athletically as usual. Nice size on D and O lines. QB has nice arm and shifty but makes poor decisions under pressure. Overall team lacks discipline on the field with stupid untimely and preventable penalties. Receivers drop clean balls which could have made a difference in the outcome. Conditioning appeared to be a problem but its early in season. Defense gave up a 99 yard drive at end of game and lost on last play of game. Went into a prevent style defense and it prevented them from winning. I don’t think this loss will be good for the Mustangs. This one got away from them. Although they appear to be better than the last two seasons they are still missing the little things which end up being big. Next two games will tell a lot. That’s my take!1 point -
Refs had nothing to do with this loss. We got the benefit of more calls than I thought we would. Our kid chased there's to the bench last night and they gave us an "offsetting". No, we gotta stop blaming refs and acknowledge the fact we lack character. Until then we're gonna keep putting ourselves and our "wittle feewings" over the good of the team. Losses like this one, 2022 Newton, 2023 PNG, 2023 Newton, 2023 HF, 2023 Jasper... all the result of undisciplined play in the final minutes of games we should've won. It's quite ridiculous. When are we going to teach them the real lessons???1 point

All starts at the top. More of the same crap as the OF scrimmage. Peevey can’t have different rules for different players. One of the late hit out of bounds penalties was by the same kid that did it vs OF and FACED NO CONSEQUENCES. He also had a temper tantrum on the sideline because the new OC kept throwing it to kids who drop the ball, numerous times last night. Next week is going to be another big game, Peevey compared Iowa to Chapel Hill, and it’s homecoming. They’re also honoring the 30 year reunion of the ‘94 district champ team. They have to pick a QB and give him the opportunity to be the man or not. Peevey and the OC have to stop replacing the QB after TD drives. So stupid.1 point -

Crosby (14) @ Dayton (19) - FINAL
2wedge reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
Well, the statistics back up the awful offensive performance. Luke Wheeler was the leading passer for Crosby with 25 yards. Yarbrough had an overall good night with 189 yards on 27 carries but if you look into it that's also pretty concerning. 89 yards came on the two TD runs in the first half but after that it's 25 carries for 100 yards or 4ypc. Crosby has a sophomore who I mentioned earlier in the week had Austin Walter-like ability but Dayton would have to deal with him because Willis was going to line him up in the slot. I believe he had two carries for zero yards and one catch for 11 yards. I mentioned Willis compounding his poor play-calling with questionable personnel decisions. The Crosby receiver that dropped the TD pass has consistently done so in practice as well as game situations but he's a senior and Willis continues to play him over kids who have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to make those plays. Willis constantly rotates the QB's at practice, I didn't think that was something he was going to carry over to the game though. Neither QB could get into a rhythm running windsprints over to the sideline after every play. Mediocre to bad QB play is something that has been consistent with Willis' offenses the last few years. Kids that were solid in Prieto's system look like they've neve played QB under Willis. I'm not sure that Crosby has ever had anybody on campus that knows more football than Joe Willis and he may be a great coach but he just doesn't fit the personnel at Crosby. He's an old school guy stuck in his ways and he's getting the brakes beat off of him by younger coaches with less talented teams running more dynamic systems. I think Coach Willis is a great teacher of the game and the kids love him but two weeks from now you're probably talking about a coach who's 2-11 through his first 13 games at Crosby after coming off of a 2-8 season at his previous stop. At the end of the day it's not Willis' fault, Crosby was desperate and probably paid a nice asking price. It's certainly not the kids' fault as they're still signing scholarships and going off to play college football. When somebody gets hurt at work we always look for the "root cause" of the injury. The root cause of Crosby's injury is their administration and particularly the superintendent. They say stuff rolls downhill and right now Crosby fans are standing at the bottom of a mountain. Hopefully we can finish with some type of respectability for the seniors and the admins. make the needed personnel moves after the season.1 point -
