I can't wait the 24 hrs to start this topic. Both teams coming off the bye week prior to starting district. WOS may be in a trap if they let the ranking go to their heads. And with the Bulldogs having just played Carthage U, I know Coach Crumedy spent the last week coaching up the young Dawgs. They'll be ready for us. Will we be prepared? Disciplined? Healthy? If so there's a good chance we get the W. Avoiding another 4th place finish starts here. Actually there... home field advantage is gone for the season. Only Tarkington and Shepherd at home. All 3 must wins games on the road. Mustang Nation needs to travel well and show the kids the support they deserve. Let's go meet em. WOS 112%2 points -

Right. So if the numbers were better when Mathews was there, and they were running the old misdirection ground plays as they are now, then the need for excitement from a newly revamped offense might not be the key. I don't think a little freshness would hurt, but I don't thinks it's the only answer. For most years, Vidor has only had so many tools in the toolbox - that hasn't changed much year in and year out. The key to a successful program is 3 fold: A good coach that can get kids & community to buy-in (possibly the most important tenet) Players with enough athleticism to be able to learn & execute whatever scheme the coach comes up with Parents & community to back the coach & his program Changing out the offensive scheme wouldn't hurt, but it's honestly not what's holding Vidor back.2 points -

Coldspring vs. Orangefield
TrojanWarrior08 and one other reacted to TxHoops for a topic
I will take the Cats, 28-7. Defense has been really stingy and the offense gets better weekly, as you would hope and expect with a new coach, new offense, and young QB. All of the above appear to be getting not only better, but more confident each week. On a related note, over/under on the amount of times the opponent is called "Coldsprings" in F.L. McClain Stadium on Friday night?2 points -
Predictions Crosby @ K-Park Thursday 10/10/2024
bullets13 and one other reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
It's not just Crosby. Other threads are being warned as well. I admit some things have fallen through the cracks sometimes and over the last few years things have been laxed as far as policing the site when it comes to coach bashing. That's on us mods and admins. When the boss man gets phone calls, texts or emails about it (I have received some as well) then we have to do what we are supposed to do. Uphold the sites rules and policies. Trust me, it's nothing personal or are we picking and choosing. BTW, a few posters did get banned in the past for coach bashing, including some involved with the Faircloth deal.2 points -
Again you have your opinion and I have mine. Anyone can create hypothetical situations to justify a position as you have demonstrated. Facts are that PNG consistently moved to ball in all four quarters despite Huntsville efforts to rotate fresh D linemen in to stop the run. PNG offense had more 3rd down conversions, had more red zone penetrations and basically controlled more of the clock. Huntsville is a legit team had some great plays that kept them in the game including a fake punt that caught PNG off guard and the lone touch down pass in the first half however IMO the Best Team Won.2 points
-
It looked like Huntsville’s intent was to make this a 2nd half game. They didn’t show much in the 1st half which I think was by design. The game should have been 7-7 at the half, but the Hornets self destructed in the last 2 minutes of the half. The roughing the passer penalty took away the interception and PNG scored a TD. Then, the freshman RB fumbles the kickoff. The Huntsville defense stopped PNG out of FG range, but the LB decided to rip the helmet off the ball carrier, which setup the free FG. The 2nd half was indeed a different look on offense. Huntsville had some success and had a chance to win late as they made it to the red zone in a 3 point game. Then more mistakes. Two straight false starts (The band wasn’t even playing) and then a pass off the receivers hands into the PNG DB’s stomach for the Int. Still, the Hornets get the ball back again and the FG attempt for the tie hits the upright. So, yes, I guess it depends on your perspective. The Hornets know they could have won the game. PNG found a way to win, and Huntsville found a way to lose. Other than that, pretty even teams. And whatever PNG put in #15’s lunch pail on Friday, that was probably the difference in the game. There, now I can move on to next week.2 points

Alot of unhappy people in vidor it seems Just a down year guys, dont jump ship. Itll get rolling. It isnt going to be great every year. All programs have ups and downs, unless your carthage, north shore, duncanville, or the teams in 9-4AD1 lol got some good athletes coming through the system Cant blame the offensive scheme tho. The freshman group is running the same thing and is absolutely dominating teams. Just keep supporting the kids, and program, and let the cards fall how they may.2 points -

Kingwood has a tall lanky QB with an average arm thats likes to chunk the ball all night long. Since Dayton has an below average secondary he cashed in. CROSBY has better athletes than Dayton - I can see Coogs shutting the passing game down and easily winning.1 point

Ca. 1968 or '69, I was on the sideline and said something about the other team's luck after they covered our fumble, and Coach Mo O'Brien very quickly spun around to face me and said, "you make your own luck, son". (If you're of PNG lineage then you likely know who Coach O'Brien was.) Anyway, since everyone has their own opinions, then I have mine also, and when the first half ended I said out loud that PNG should win this going away, regardless of the outstanding play of Huntsville's D line. In the 2nd half, PNG appeared almost intent to give the game away, (with the help of the refs), but they won it anyway. This is my last comment on this one. I hope that Huntsville will bounce right back against Montgomery and MLC.1 point

Yeah some of that goes on too i believe. I would love to run the offense that vanderbuilt was running. Alot of options with that style of play. i still think the slot t can have a great passing game attached to it, but would involve having teams spread out (similar to what laporte runs, not sure if you want to call that a slot t or more so a west coast style scheme)1 point

I think BH wins in the trenches and puts enough stops in the secondary to win. The question I have is if BH can control the big play capability of PAM? 35-28 BH I have a feeling Buddy is going to call me crying 😁1 point -
I don’t think coaching is the problem Vidor football teams have always played hard and honestly had a few good seasons because of their hard work. Realistically in the history of Vidor pirate football you can probably count on one hand where they had much talent. Year in and year out they are not very talented. In fact most years they are overachievers due to their hard work1 point

Ehh they were step for step with them. They never looked back and put their self in position to make a play on the ball. Thats happened a quite a few times.1 point

It’s not that difficult to express displeasure without devolving to insults. Thanks for your help on this. Just a reminder: 18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. AP_5309 reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
I had several coaches (from 3 different teams) tell me that watched film of the Hardin/OF game that said that OF is not 59 points better than Hardin. Was just one of those games that snowballed on Hardin. It was 21-0 halfway thru 1st Q due to botched opening kickoff and two fumbles on first two possessions. But like Parcells always said, you are what your record and score says you are. I admit, I was very surprised with the score from last night. I did pick Anahuac to win and certainly did not have them being shutout to the tune of 38-0. Contrary to your comment about the score should not be surprising, I strongly disagree and from the looks of the pickems and comments, others do too. Maybe you are just smarter than everyone. lol1 point -
For the record, it was not my intention to insult Orangefield at all and it seems like y’all took it that way. Manning kid might be the real deal, I dont know. I watched for a half though and I couldn’t tell you which one he was. To correct my previous post and maybe make my point more clear: Anahuac has the athletes to compete with anybody in the district. Some of the best athletes in the district play for Anahuac, IN MY OPINION. They have the players to not lose to Orangefield 38-0 and I think most people can agree1 point
