Huffman is the best team in the district4 points
-
I'm an outside, I have no skin in this game. PNG should be considered the favorite in this game, they should be the heavy favorite. That being said PNG has not looked like last years team, they look like a smart, savvy veteran team that is not quite as talented as last year. Nederland if they want to win needs to punch PNG in the mouth from the moment the game starts until it ends they need to turn this into a brawl as much as a game in the trenches. PNG is bigger, stronger, more accomplished, and has the better coaching staff and because of all of those reasons I think the dogs take this one, because it's not called mid-county expectations it's called mid-county madness and madness ensures the dogs come out of top.4 points

Crosby vs La Porte
Rez and one other reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
It's been a while since there was reason to to start a thread involving a Crosby game outside of complaining about the coaching. With both teams 4-3 on the season but coming into the game 4-0 in district play this one might be worth discussing. Teams are 1-1 since they've been in the district together with each team winning their home contest(La Porte's home game was at BH). This game will likely determine who gets to avoid a first round matchup with state ranked #6 College Station and a probably early exit. The loser of this game will still have an opportunity to finish in 2nd place and even win a share of the district championship with La Porte playing an undefeated Angleton next week and Crosby playing Angleton the week after. The district could very well end up in a three way tie for first place with Angleton, Crosby and La Porte all finishing 6-1 in district play. Fun few weeks to finish the season in 11-5A-D1 As far as the game goes it feels like a great matchup for this year's version of Crosby. La Porte's offense is run heavy and the strength of Crosby's defense is their front seven. Crosby has run the ball extremely well since district play has started, albeit against lower level competition, and based on what La Porte has shown on film personnel wise it looks like we should have continued success in that department. I think the key to the game from Crosby is getting La Porte in 3rd and 5+ situations where we can pick up stops on the run plays they'll try and some defended passes that will force punts in a potential lower scoring field position game. Crosby will also need to clean up some of the penalties and ball-handling from prior weeks if we want to give ourselves the best chance to win.2 points -
Trump Talks Junk Redux

Obama screwed up my medical insurance.....deductibles are crazy right now, luckily I can afford it. Trump lowered my taxes and I seen it on my payroll check..... Biden has increased everything I buy........ All of those are significant. When I have to spend 20% more than the budget, that typically means 20% less in savings that month. Luckily I'm not one of the struggling families that have to put it on a credit card. You can down play it, I'm sure you will, but all the folks on SSI and social security, on that fixed income are getting 20% less than they were under Trump.2 points -

I've watched Vidor play LCM, BC, and HH and after watching those 3 games... the LCM vs BC game is a toss up and the district championship is HH to lose.2 points -
based on? When BC whooped Vidor after LCM struggled with them, and beat up on L-town, I thought, "hmm... BC might be a lot better than LCM." But then BC squeaked by an HJ team that LCM beat by 36, and struggled with 0-7 Livingston. and herein lies the issue with all the folks who've been proclaiming how great BC is: their marquis win is over a 3A school with two losses. I can't look at these last two results and dismiss them as off weeks because they've literally not beaten a quality team all year except for one pretty good 3A squad. Even if BC beats LCM, their marquis win becomes a win over a decent 4A school with a 4-3 record. They had some impressive results early against probably the creampuffiest schedule I think I've ever seen, but the last two weeks they've struggled with losing programs. To me this game is truly a toss-up, but neither team is going to gain too much credibility for winning it, although I'm sure Cardinal fans will expect that. it'll all become irrelevant the first round of the playoffs.2 points

If that is the case, then one cannot claim who the better QB is until they play each other. It's pretty close IMO.2 points -
I don’t expect great outcomes (but hopeful) from Nederland against the top three teams in the district. The fact that they are 6-1 overall and 4-0 in district with three weeks left in the season and being mentioned in district championship discussions has me thrilled though. I had visions of being 3-4 at this point and out of playoff contention with a new coach settling in and a very tough top of the district.2 points

Not sure how Friday will turn out but LCM is who they are for this season right now. Hopefully passing does improve. I agree with some post earlier, in order for LCM to win, this needs to be a tough, ugly ish game. Not Dirty! Great job for BC having a good year, it’s been a while. Go Bears1 point -

2024 UIL Region 10 Marching Band Contest Thread!
WOSdrummer99 reacted to rocketfan86 for a topic
I'm mad that I replied earlier but it did not save my reply. From what I observed, United started their show during the 5-minute entrance period. During those 5-minutes, a band enters the competition field and sets up for their opening set. Even if a band starts to play or do some sort of pre-show, judges are not 'judging' anything during this time. At the 45 second mark, the announcer starts to introduce the band and their program. Once the 5-minute period is done, then you have the 8-minute field performance. A band has to stay a minimum of 5 minutes on the field and no more than the allotted 8 minutes. United was officially on the field for about 2.5 minutes. They started exiting the field with about 5:30 left on the performance clock. Normally, a band would be deducted one rating for going over or not spending enough time on the field. I think Beaumont Central back in 2002 was penalized this way. For it to be a DQ, I am not sure if something else happened. When ratings were announced, all that was said was "No Rating."1 point -

Dept of defense: effective sept 27 (for upcoming civil unrest)
thetragichippy reacted to tvc184 for a topic
Here you go if you want a Youtube video about it. I am sure the black helicopters are circling this guy and he has a bomb shelter…. Bear in mind, I am on his side of the fence. I believe the federal government is corrupt and they have their interest way more than an our interest at heart. What does this directive (by an only assistant secretary) give the president or a governor that doesn’t already exist? So let’s play our favorite game, what if. What if, as the guy implies, the government (Democrats) are preparing to steal the election and they are preparing for a possible armed backlash. Basically, the government knows it will start massive protests and potentially an attempt to overthrow the government. Okay. The guy in the video even agrees that it is to assist the local or state police. If the local or state police need help, the governor already has a 100% authority to send in the National Guard, which is any effect is the United States Army, but who have not been federalized. Remember that many of the troops who fought in the Gulf Wars were National Guard units. So there has almost always been (for over 100 years) the authority to bring in federal troops but under the direction of the governor. In fact the Washington DC police chief testified under oath that he contacted Nancy Pelosi three times to get the DC National Guard in place before January 6, 2021. So they could have had federally trained troops on the ground but did not however that is a different topic. Remember that the Kent State massacre where four students were killed by the National Guard, was the Ohio state governor calling in the military to quell the riots. It wasn’t the federal government. Less than two weeks later the same thing happened at Jackson State College (now University) where two Black students were killed and 12 injured but by the state police (much lesser known than Kent State, almost certainly due to race). Again it was not the federal government but the state which brought in manpower and they again could have had the governor call in the National Guard. So assuming that this is an attempt to justify the use of force by the military, that already exists. This guy and others might be thinking of the Posse Comitatus Act which prohibits the use of the US military as state civilian law enforcement. That is why the National Guard is under state control and they CAN act as civilian state law enforcement. The Posse Comalitatus Act does NOT however prevent the use of the US military in open rebellion. Basically if a civil war or open rebellion starts, the US military has the authority to be used by the president. He/she doesn’t need the permission of a directive by the Assistant Secretary of Defense. That is ludicrous. So if the governor can already call in federal troops under the name of the National Guard and the president already has the authority to use the military to put down an open rebellion… what does this DoD directive by an assistant secretary authorize that doesn’t already exist? Anyway, here is the short video of at least one person who may be referred to as a source.1 point -

I will make my one post of the year. It is hard to stay elite, and PNG has done it for 2 years. This game has all the makings of an upset. Winning streak, SC, rivalry game. Defensively, we are not at the elite level we have been. Containment has been a big issue. Nederland has surprised me, and a lot of others as well. If it comes to a shoot out, it’s anyone’s game. I do not see it a a blow out on either side, and I think it’s a toss up on who wins. Nederland showed some grit last night. Whoever shows up ready to play will win this one. If I was a betting man, I wouldn’t bet…. The 2 things PNG STRUGGLES at, is what Nederland is good at. QB scrambling and RB speed off the edge. For PNG to win, we will need to control the clock, and pound the rock. And make a few crucial stops. This will be a very interesting game. And the DC could be decided Friday night. Going to be a very interesting game.1 point -

Orangefield loses some key players including their probably their second and third best players (although imo they return their best player and their second most talented player). The Thomas kid has the tools to be really special before it’s all said and done. So that being said, I would say OF should be competing for district once again. And Scales will continue on his path to be the best to lace ‘em up in Bobcat country.1 point
