Typical answer to justify murder as well as making a false statement. How bout modeling a 2 parent home, going to church, being financially responsible, work ethic. Etc etc. The system we have in place now doesn’t fix the bigger problem. It needs to be rehauled with better oversight. i get people have situations that arise and need help but the system has been abused to where now it is not trusted.2 points -

Guessing at these battleground state numbers is fun, but it's like trying to figure what I'm having for supper tonight: 1. Is my wife cooking tonight? (your guess is good as mine) 2. Does she expect me to cook tonight? (a better probability than no. 1) 3. Will we just order take out? (Trends are leaning that way, but now we have to decide on where - that requires a whole 'nother flowchart) 4. How about going out and sit down to eat at a restaurant? (Not the usual, but probably one chance in 7) 5. What about just having leftovers? (the missus doesn't do leftovers, so usually not, unless it's my world-famous gumbo) 6. Should we just do "everybody for themselves"? (my 21 year old son hates this option, because he's not cooking or eating leftovers, and now he has to spend his own money at Cane's) The only constant and for sure thing is that I'm not going hungry (this would make sense if you've ever seen me). Anything else is up for grabs, and won't be for sure until the meal is sitting in front of me. Kinda like when we decide on Napoli's pizza, I take everyone's wish list and call in the order only to realize they're closed on Mondays, and we have to start all over...2 points -

Crosby vs La Porte
Rez reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
It's been a while since there was reason to to start a thread involving a Crosby game outside of complaining about the coaching. With both teams 4-3 on the season but coming into the game 4-0 in district play this one might be worth discussing. Teams are 1-1 since they've been in the district together with each team winning their home contest(La Porte's home game was at BH). This game will likely determine who gets to avoid a first round matchup with state ranked #6 College Station and a probably early exit. The loser of this game will still have an opportunity to finish in 2nd place and even win a share of the district championship with La Porte playing an undefeated Angleton next week and Crosby playing Angleton the week after. The district could very well end up in a three way tie for first place with Angleton, Crosby and La Porte all finishing 6-1 in district play. Fun few weeks to finish the season in 11-5A-D1 As far as the game goes it feels like a great matchup for this year's version of Crosby. La Porte's offense is run heavy and the strength of Crosby's defense is their front seven. Crosby has run the ball extremely well since district play has started, albeit against lower level competition, and based on what La Porte has shown on film personnel wise it looks like we should have continued success in that department. I think the key to the game from Crosby is getting La Porte in 3rd and 5+ situations where we can pick up stops on the run plays they'll try and some defended passes that will force punts in a potential lower scoring field position game. Crosby will also need to clean up some of the penalties and ball-handling from prior weeks if we want to give ourselves the best chance to win.1 point -

navydawg31 reacted to Pack007 for a topic
Doubt it’s the trip that was the reason. Kids are used to it by now. They’ve been doing it since little league and middle school. Texarkana was just as bad for them this year.. The sluggish starts on offense are kinda expected. We’re playing without our starting QB and probably best receiver. Then we have an OC that can be very conservative at times. Honestly don’t think it’s the travel.1 point -

DCTF does an early point spread on the team schedule. Stepp will have his point spread later in the week and then a DCTF/ Pigskin Prep computer pick too. It's confusing. I think this will be a tough game for Lufkin., PAM is by far the best team they have played to this point since their Longview game.1 point -

Pack007 reacted to PackAttack for a topic
Everyone has this misconception that travel bothers Lufkin, it doesn't. It's just what we have done for decades, it's built into our DNA. We are a long way from anyone we play, except Nacogdoches (20 miles) every other year. We have already been this year to Tyler (85 miles), Texarkana (170 miles) and Beaumont (125 miles), didn't make a difference. Think this is going to be a close game. Don't make game predictions, I always let the players work that out on their side of it. PAM is a +1 point favorite by DCTF. All you need is one more point that the other guy and have never minded a win like that.1 point -
Palestine Westwood/SEC rules no forfeitures, AD/HC suspended
Mr. Buddy Garrity reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
From the Fairfield newspaper: District 9-3A school superintendents met in an Executive Committee meeting Monday, Oct. 21 to discuss the alleged violation of Westwood ISD coaches and district personal videotaping/filming/recording district opponents of an athletics contest (varsity football) without the prior consent of the schools competing in the contest. When all was said and done, Diboll Superintendent Brian Bowman, Huntington Superintendent David Flowers, and Crockett Superintendent Dr. Douglas Moore recommended the suspension of Westwood ISD Technology Assistant Don McCoy from all District 9-3A athletic events and the suspension of Westwood High School Director of Athletics/Head Football Coach Richard Bishop for the remainder of the football season as well as postseason. Both of these suspensions will have to go to the UIL State Executive Committee for approval. The committee also voted Westwood would have to forfeit all District 9-3A football games for this season. Westwood ISD Superintendent Wade Stanford noted the school would be filing an appeal on the forfeits. Teague ISD Superintendent Chris Skinner and Fairfield ISD Superintendent Joe Craig were also in attendance for the meeting and spoke throughout. They could not vote on the recommendation because their teams were involved. When making the decisions, Skinner said, “We have to keep the best interest of the students in all districts in mind, not just those at Westwood.” Bowman led the meeting. Stanford, Bishop, McCoy and Glen Tunstall told what occurred during the Fairfield and Teague football game on Friday night, Oct. 11. Westwood had moved their game that week to Thursday night, but none of the other schools had been notified. Bishop and McCoy attended the game and sat on the home side at the 50-yard-line. McCoy, who is not a coach, but works for the district, took videos on his camera as well as Snapchat. Skinner called Stanford at 8:04 p.m. on Oct. 11 to notify him of coaches filming signals on the sidelines and plays. Stanford immediately called Bishop. During halftime, which is when Stanford called Bishop, Bishop told McCoy to delete any videos he had on his phone. McCoy admitted he was filming the sidelines and the plays. He stated he was taking the videos to send to a girl in Virgina. Bishop, who was sitting next to McCoy, said he didn’t know McCoy was taking videos. Fairfield Coaches Tyler Terry, Aaron Allen and Shawn Welch, who were in the pressbox, told what they witnessed during the game. They also videoed McCoy filming the sidelines and the plays with Bishop sitting next to him. McCoy said he videoed most of the first and second quarters of the game until he was told not to at halftime. He admitted to taking videos on both his camera as well as Snapchat. “I was capturing almost every play until I got something good,” McCoy said. “I was trying to get some good footage to send her to show her what Texas football is all about.” Craig then showed the videos the Fairfield coaches took from the pressbox of McCoy filming. His phone is turned sideways and can be seen zooming into the sideline and then zooming out to get the play. When asked what he thought after seeing the videos, Bishop said, “It's less than ideal. It isn’t a good look. I would never tell someone to film, especially since we were sitting in the center on the 50-yard-line.” Fairfield Head Football Coach John Bachtel noted Fairfield and Teague are now having to change all of their signals. “We all know we can’t be videoing other teams. Videoing our staff is just wrong,” Bachtel said. “That is what hurts me the most. Don’t be sitting right there next to him while he is videoing. It’s the ethics of it.” Bowman, Flowers, and Moore went into executive session at 11:53 a.m. before returning at 12:19 p.m. to discuss what actions should be taken. Bishop has been coaching for 17 years. Westwood is currently undefeated and has a 7-0 overall record with just three district games remaining against Teague, Fairfield and Huntington.1 point -

I'm an outside, I have no skin in this game. PNG should be considered the favorite in this game, they should be the heavy favorite. That being said PNG has not looked like last years team, they look like a smart, savvy veteran team that is not quite as talented as last year. Nederland if they want to win needs to punch PNG in the mouth from the moment the game starts until it ends they need to turn this into a brawl as much as a game in the trenches. PNG is bigger, stronger, more accomplished, and has the better coaching staff and because of all of those reasons I think the dogs take this one, because it's not called mid-county expectations it's called mid-county madness and madness ensures the dogs come out of top.1 point

Week-9 Lufkin at Port Arthur Memorial Predictions
Big Daddy Cool reacted to PackAttack for a topic
Lufkin has little history with NS. They have played three times, Lufkin won in 1966 (7-6) and in 1967 (27-6). North Shore won the most recent meeting 28-21 in 2008. That a Lufkin 2-1 advantage historically speaking.1 point -
I will say Nederland is progressing faster than I thought for the first year of a new coaching staff. And they have some good players coming up as well. WOS had a rough start but seems to be getting on track at the right time. Silsbee is kind of back and forth.1 point
