  1. Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716). The Tiger defense is solid and very quick. Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.

It’s not that impossible… different sport but look at Kountze and their success for years in basketball… here a few years back they went through a tough 2-3 seasons because the talent just wasn’t there… still had a state championship level coach but just didn’t have the jimmys and joes to win.

  5. That should tell everyone something pretty clearly. Does anyone really think BH is recruiting elementary kids, to get them to transfer in Jr. high? Seriously? Here is the "dirty little secret" about BH: Most people move to the district for a quality living environment to raise their young family, and benefit from the outstanding acedemics at BH. Even If all athlectics suddenly disappeared from BH, people would still want their kids in the district. If thats not enough to convince anyone, and BH really was determined to recruit, first step would be to have open enrollemnt. It is closed. Yes, I get it, no one ever wants to give BH the benefit of the doubt on anything. Some of the accusations are beyond ridiculous though. This paranoia the BH critics are afflicted with is not just sad, its flat out laughable.

If your Gmaw had been cooking something a certain way for so long. Then after Gma passes in comes the wife and changes the recipe. If everyone got sick would you keep eating? Or ask you're cousin to come cook next season? Even though he's across the state he still uses the same recipe. "Well pilgrim?"

  7. You’re using old data. Also, use the data from the actual source—TEA. As of 21/22 (latest because of lawsuits), BHISD & DPISD are both ‘A’ rated. GCCISD & LPISD are both ‘B’ rated. But, both have a higher 4 year graduation rate than Deer Park ISD at 94 & 93% compared to 90%. (How the ratings system works in light of that is interesting in itself.) LPISD’s rating also factors in DeWalt. DeWalt is the school for special needs. Not aware of either of the other districts having a designated school for special needs. But, I may be wrong. Yes. Demographics make a big difference. DPISD & BHISD are very similar. Won’t get into the details. People can figure that out on their own. GCCISD & LPISD are similar. LPISD teachers have a longer tenure rate than the other districts, and a lower teacher to student ratio. Makes sense being a smaller district. None of this affects transfers for athletic purposes. But, it does have an impact on where a parent may want their child to attend school. Meanwhile, I need to start a thread on LP/AMC. All the computers & experts have AMC taking the win. Looking at some of the stats I can find—and video—I’m not sold it’s going to be as easy a game as people think for AMC.

  12. It's all making sense now. I could never figure out why ef green opened their doors a few years ago and I read in the paper how they were rolling over everyone but it never translated over to high school. After a bit more research, I see that the kid scoring all those touchdowns that first year plays for Barbers Hill now. Maybe a different coach could recruit better or, like was mentioned with the new rule, maybe it would be more difficult for other schools. They will just drop down and transfer for 8th grade then. I don't think this will stop anything.

  13. I went to look up the one ef green kid I was really looking forward to seeing at GCM, even though I am a lee fan.... Playing on varsity as a freshman at CE King. He's probably a future state title winner in discus too. They need a coach that can convince those kids to stay at gcm

WOS isn't the place for on the job training. If that was the plan then start out at West Hardin, West Sabine, or West Brook. Get some Ws under your belt before stepping into greatness. It is mine and many others belief that WOS would've been back to Region Finals if the system wasn't dismantled by the inexperience of those holding the wheel. We can point to prime examples that prove this all day long. Some here not connected to the program have already done so for us. I appreciate the honesty of those that watch us without the blue tinted glasses. I'd love for the board and super to see things the way the community does. But they're vision is more like Ray Charles. Becoming infamous for same reasons as Ray J. And have no idea who Ray Lewis is. BTW one of them was heard at the HF game saying Dan Ray was a cheater his whole career. She got jokes like Ray Ramano and could easily be thrown under the bus like Ray Steven's Gmaw

  19. Bellville did not return their entire Oline. Just three starters. Also, Bellville only returned 3 on defense from last year. Lost 8 starters. La Vega is much faster overall teamwise than Bellville. Teams with very good speed on both sides of the ball has been problematic for Silsbee this year.

  20. Alabama situation isn’t comparable,he was a HC before and pretty dang successful so he already had ideas of how to do what he wanted to continue that right or wrong. A brand new HC following behind a hall of famer wanting to succeed him should not come in and TRY to change the game plan that’s worked for so long, just take the reins and keep it between the ditches. I mean that’s all if you (the new HC) would want to possibly follow the others all the way to the hall of fame!

    Less than a month...

On the boys side... This will be the best team East Chambers has ever had (including their team that went undefeated in the regular season a couple of years ago). Lumberton will be fantastic as always. PNG will be very good. Keep an eye on the 2 Beaumont schools!! United has 2 of the best coaches in the area on the same staff. West Brook in 5A should surprise some people. On the girls side... Rinse and repeat. Lumberton, Vidor, PNG, West Brook, BH, HJ, LCM

  24. Wow that's some impressive numbers, I assume you meant 32 tds running. That averaging over 6 tds per game. It's my understanding that chances are slim for #15 coming back at all this year was hoping he'd be back by now. We sure could use him for this game. Appreciate the post with some sobering data and a level attitude. PNG has to bring their absolute best A game and hope for some early breaks and/or turnovers. Gonna need the fans to do more than show up, they need to be louder and more involved than ever. Lord willing I'll be there. Love Texas High school football.

  25. Still, from what little I saw, it should have been a much closer game. WOS was missing some fundamentals on defense, and a lack of imaginative play calling on offense. Just my opinion as an objective observer on Texan Live, which was horrible btw, but that's another story.

  27. I love PNG being the underdogs in this game. We will control the clock and force TH to play our game. PNG also matches up in the trenches against TH. I have a strong feeling this game will be similar to last years Thxgiving weekend game.

  30. If you are talking football, then yes. But keep it in perspective. You had two Hall of Fame coaches prior to now. Most would expect a drop. The fact is WO-S has been spoiled with having two HOF coaches over a 45 year period. Also a very experienced coaching staff over those years, That is something that many many schools dream of. Welcome to the real world. lol

  33. Silsbee can beat them. Stop #0 and control the pass and they have a real shot. The LV defense isn't great. WOS went backwards from mid-season until Friday. We don't improve and are really not very good. We were better earlier in the season. LV is beatable.

  35. So you say Nah , not throwing accusations and turn around and make the accusation again. So this is the ANGLE Goose Creek Athletics will take now. Accuse districts of recruiting their athletes and blame that of why they are not very good

  37. For sure. They can take it to anyone if they want it, and if they play with the intensity that they had last Thursday. Last Thursday game reminded me of the last 2 season's teams.

Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem. Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253 For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.

  41. Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.

    Week 13

SEC fan bases before Texas got there: “The horns aren’t ready for this. Every week is a battle.” SEC fan bases after Texas arrived: “Texas has the easiest SEC schedule ever!” SEC fan bases after every one of their teams has lost to one or more SEC teams from the bottom half of the standings, many of whom Texas beat comfortably: 🤐

  45. Which one is which? LP is Open Enrollment and although BH is technically “closed” by GCCISD’s own admission BH has taken twice as many GCCISD transfers than DP, LP, or NS just in this past year. A LOT of these transfers have been happening in Jr High to avoid PAPF/eligibility questions which is why UIL is tightening things up on transfers between 8th and 9th grades starting in Aug plus sending a UIL rep to observe DEC meetings of Districts with high numbers of transfers in/out. Oh, BTW, Lee was 6-4 this year, while RSS was 3-7 and GCM was 0-10. Neither the RSS or GCM results are surprising but REL did well this year.

  46. Simon is too big, explosive and ill-intentioned for a team like Barbers Hill to do much with. Whoever is going to stop him will need to have roughly equivalent athletes all over on defense which will be tough to find...or a quick, well-coached, swarming defense to get three guys around him every play
