  1. Louisiana solved that problem. Open districts go to a different playoff bracket. Let them compete against others that aren't homegrown talent. It may be complicated but that's above my pay grade. I only know how to read a map and divide divisions evenly. Something the UIL obviously struggles with. Reminds me of a story I saw once. Before computers every MLB team schedule was determined by a husband and wife in NY. Just 2 people using common sense and process of elimination to schedule over 4000 games per season.

  2. I know. I didn't mean you, specifically. I meant that a district has a choice. Choose to be open or not. Personally, I'm not moving to put my kid in a worse school district (academically, financially, etc.) or having to drive him across town to another city for the sake of his athletic career unless he's a bona fide blue chip prospect. Most kids aren't. Mine was good and played in college, but he wasn't headed to a power school for sure. Instead, he got a quality education in Lumberton, I didn't have to sell my house and move, he got to experience college ball and help win a National Championship for a D3 school, UMHB in Belton, TX. Mission accomplished.

  4. Contrary to what is being posted on here about "open" enrollment schools, those schools still have to abide by UIL policies when it comes to participation in UIL athletics. A student still has to establish residency in that school district and the PAPF from the school he/she transferred from has to be clean (i.e. box checked for not transferring for athletic purposes). Open enrollment allows students to transfer in to attend, but it doesn't allow for students to transfer in for athletics. That's governed by the UIL. The DEC still has to approve those transfers to play varsity athletics.

  5. Nobody is going to a DISD school for an education. Definitely not SOC. I think it is simple. You have open enrollment you play up a division. I also think there should be some academic standard that has to be met in order to have open enrollment.

  9. You don't. Personally I think the only thing you can do is have teachers armed, and that will limit the number but there will still be deaths. Security guards can help, but the shooter will go where he ain't......at least they would not know what teacher is armed.

  11. This is wrong headed IMO. The key term here is "student athlete." They aren't mutually exclusive and I think that is exactly the rub here. Coaches are stacking their teams with excuses. Sure lets assume that it's all fair and "it's just the way it is".. I want to see a report. I don't need names or schools necessarily. I just want to know how many, the whys and wheres, and whether the student is a starter. If what you say is as innocent as it sounds then the said report should reflect that. I want to understand why it's so awesome for everyone

  12. Jefferson has a very good group of athletes going through right now. Highly ranked in football, and should have a good season in basketball as well. I've enjoyed following them the last few years since I spend a lot of my winter up that way at the deer lease about 10 miles outside of town.

  13. Ya know.. just because a school is open enrollment doesn't mean that they have to accept ANY out of district student that tries to enroll. In fact, most schools check things such as testing history, attendance, discipline, etc.. And even allow students to enroll on a "conditions based" agreement. Open enrollment doesn't mean just let whoever wants to come show up and stay. If Lumberton is truly a closed enrollment campus, they may truly be missing out on some good students. What's the point of making you school into an educational facility where everybody wants to go to school, if you're going to limit who goes to school to who happens to live in the district?

No. I was actually offered a fairly significant job after a chemical spill but it was too close to the airport and I needed FFA clearance which took some time but the access to the accident site was limited in time. It was something like, there is a court order to inspect the site for a limited number of hours. It was potentially a multimillion dollar suit so I likely would have been awarded nicely for my time. I am still a commercial pilot license active but covid put a huge damper on many of of my plans.

  17. A more “simple” solution is to make open enrollment “state law”.

  18. AS mentioned before, the solution is very simple. If you have open enrollment, you will need to move up a classification. OR, they can create an entire division of Open enrollment schools to play. let them "recruit" against each other and they can do whatever they want and stay out of the way of Schools who continue to keep things closed and fair.

  19. You're missing the point. Look at SOC for example and their roster this year compared to last. You really think they all transferred to SOC for educational purposes? You think they moved there? The answer is no. And the example I have about the Argyle QB - that is first hand knowledge. I have a close personal friend who knows everyone up there personally. He literally went to Argyle for Football. If you don't think money is changing hands in these deals you are simply naive.

  20. Yeah, that's a little far fetched and a lot disrespectful to those who served valiantly. My Dad (remember the guy with the 2 Bronze Stars with Combat V) got no monthly check or anything above treatment from the VA for the cancer he was awarded along with the commendations for heroism in battle. Your scenario doesn't happen.

  21. This is the correct answer. Recruiting using the excuse of open enrollment is creating an unfair advantage for certain schools, specifically those listed above. It's cheating without cheating because they're skirting the rules. They know it. The UIL should absolutely step in and create an open enrollment division or force each to play up to 6A. Ultimately, these schools are robbing closed enrollment schools of potential trips to Rounds in the playoffs they may never see otherwise. Not to mention the schools that lose out on talent that they could use. An example other than SOC is this... The QB for Argyle was recruited from Lake Dallas. Lake Dallas had a very good team last year and that QB would have made a huge difference for them. Forward to this year, Lake Dallas moves down to 4A-D1 and end up going 5-5. He would have made a huge difference to them the last two years but instead he went to Argyle "for education?" - Sure. Good for the kid I guess. He went to the Semis in 5A and got slammed by SOC who has an unreal amount of students on their roster who weren't there last year. Imagine if LCM or BC recruited the guys out of WOS and went to State.

I saw a comment that they have red and green lights so it proves that it is a government drone. NEWSFLASH: Drones come with red and green navigation lights just like boats and planes. Trump was using somewhat serious but somewhat hyperbolic speech like always. Even the government cannot legally shoot down lawfully flying aircraft. If any aircraft including drones violate restricted airspace and cause a direct threat, it is probably lawful. Have a guy flying a hang glider toward the White House and see what happens. I am fairly certain that on 9-11, had an aircraft of any type flown toward the White House, Capitol, etc., it would have been eliminated. Anyone with a commercial drone license (I have both pilot and commercial drone licenses) can fly at night. That’s why I think a lot of this may be copycats. Once the story went out, people are flying their drones, either to be part of the show or maybe even to take video of the other drones. Also, it is unlawful for a recreational drone pilot to fly at night however, when do laws stop people from doing something?

  28. The only good thing about losing is you don't have to face the fedora (HP). I get the feeling that they're going to be state champs. That man tried to retire in '18, but just couldn't in the end. I think he's about 73 now. Angleton will have about 8 starters back on offense next year but only 3 on defense, a DL and 2 DB's..

Here is a problem. I have not seen this take from anyone yet and it might be completely nonsense. But… Drones are easily bought on the commercial market including some with some pretty hefty lifting ability. Drones can be purchased online or at local stores like Best Buy that will fly 70mph or more. In a huge metro area, how many copycats might there be? There might be over a couple of thousands drones in the immediate Golden Triangle area alone How hard would it be to have 30 - 40 people flying those things around at one time? Imagine an area like Houston. There might be over 1,000 airborne at one time. What if there is actually something to this like maybe a real spy drone or two but then toss in 50 private citizens just flying around to stir up the news. A person could walk into Walmart or Best Buy this afternoon and be flying around the area tonight. Then…. Consider that shooting down a drone is a felony under federal law about shooting down aircraft. So while some teenager flies a drone just to join in on all the hoopla, if a person gets caught shooting it down, he may end up in prison with a $250,000 fine. On the other hand maybe it is something way more sinister than copycats. Maybe there is some kind of serious national security threat. Or it can be 30 high school kids wanting to get in on the show……
