  1. Under UIL policy, in order to participate in UIL activities, one has to establish residency within the school district one is attending or one will be ineligible for a calendar year. Also, the DEC can rule ineligible if moved for athletic purposes. This is regardless of open or closed enrollment schools. Some are talking about moving for better opportunities. It's hard to validate that move when one moves from a school that has an A rating from TEA to a school with a D or F rating. Unless the parents moved for work or it was a negative family situation, those kind of moves are obviously for athletic purposes and the student should be rules ineligible. These new policies and regulations that UIL has just come out with will crack down on some of this mass transfer situation. (i.e. Duncanville girls basketball). It won't stop it completely, but having 10-15 transfers per year will cause major red flags to the UIL and they will step in DEC meetings. Pretty sure starting next year the "brother in law" DEC meetings will cease because a UIL official will be in those meetings per the new regs.

  2. 100% wrong. the success is completely attributed to the recruiting. Especially at SOC. SOC lost last year to PNG and one of their coaches in the elevator said verbatim “we will never win another one with this **** at QB. We gotta make a change. here comes Reggie McNeal Jr. didn’t work out but he sure made a difference. Along with multiple other athletes who didn’t grow up in South Oak Cliff. No. They grew up in Red Oak. Arlington. Forth Worth. Houston. it’s a cheap way to win and then beat your chest that “you’re the best.” the best at skirting the rules. sorry but I’m not impressed and I never will be. I’m impressed with PNG of 2023. woodville 2024. and all other teams that did it without skirting the rules or cheating outright. Open enrollment is poison to High School football. Plain and simple. THAT is common sense.

  3. Nederland exceed my expectations. New Coaches and offense and defense scheme kids bought in. Had a chance to win district came just short. Won against PNG and everyone wrote them off saying they didn’t stand a chance… brought a new excitement to the town and school. Kids are buying in… safe to say the future is bright and Coach Rich and company are doing a heck of a job on and off the field in the community. Excited to see what the next few seasons hold

Not many 4AD1 districts that are weaker. If they get the right coach they will be more than able to compete.

  7. UIL changed that too. Ineligible for ALL UIL participation/activities for 1 calendar year. No Summer Strength@Conditioning, no Frosh Ball, no other sports, nothing but the regular old PE Class for 1 calendar year and that’s 8th grade transfers on up. Starts Aug 1 2025 so still business as usual with transfers until then but after that it’s gonna get harder

  8. I agree with that last statement. But NS and SOC are not the same. TEA ratings prove it.

  9. According to UIL, they will monitor middle school as well. Residency must be established at sometime. Doesn't matter if it's open enrollment.

  10. North Shore - 577 in the state out of 1,555 SOC - 1,258 out of 1,555. You know which schools are worse than SOC? Border schools where most of the kids are still learning English. You don't have a point. Just an agenda.

  11. There are a lot of assumptions made here that just because a student transfers schools, they were recruited. Maybe it was a personal choice for the kid or their parents.. If I had a kid that was a stud (insert sport) why wouldn't I look into potentially relocating to a district where their talents could be better showcased? Or get access to more team success. If I had a kid that wasn't receiving the education I thought they should be getting, I could move them to wherever I want.. Using whatever means I have access to. If that meant commuting to work or buying a house somewhere else.. try to stop me. Nothing has to be justified here.. by anyone. Other than establishing that said student/athlete did not move for athletic purposes according the the PAPF. "Homegrown" kids was prevalent when schools, school facilities, and school programs offered were on a more even playing field. Those days are done. Money has 100% extremely progressed some schools and left others in the dust. The state can't stop kids from changing schools. The state can't stop parents from taking jobs in a different city than their current address. The state can't stop grown adults from establishing residency somewhere other than where they currently live. Any of the aforementioned can happen for whatever reason the affected parties decide.

  12. At what point did I tell a parent what is best for their kid? I mean, I'm a parent myself but I don't see where I said anything of the sort. Your response tells me you're losing a debate because you're feelings are more important than facts so you're going to resort to throwing out insults. Butt hurt? No. I do care about people no matter where they are from. I'd be on here stating my same opinion if this happened to ANY school because PNG isn't the only team to run into this problem. As I recall, PNG still took care of business last year regardless and came close in '22 as well. You seem to have a hard time separating facts from feelings. It happens.

  13. No Coach Todd has built a program that kids want to play for! Look at Skyline before & after he left. Kids want to play for the best teams, it happens at every level.

    End of Season Team Reviews

For most, the season has come to an end. How did your team fare in your opinion? Did they meet, exceed, or fall short of expectations? Please provide opinions without slamming coaching staffs or administrations. Since I follow my Alma mater La Porte, my take is they actually exceeded my expectations. I had them pegged as a 2nd Round PO winner & possibly 3rd Round. I didn’t really expect a State Quarterfinal participant. They returned a lot. So, I did have reasonably high expectations for a 3rd year staff. When they won the Regional Semi vs Consolidated, I started to feel really good about their chances of actually making it to Jerryworld. But, when Angleton won (who I supported as a district mate), I had a pit form in my stomach and Deja Vu knowing it would be a very tall task to beat them twice in a month. Still, they had a great season & return a decent amount for next year. The program is growing again. Next year way too early look ahead: I see them being a PO team again. Maybe another district championship with all the home games they’ll have. But, the OL will need almost a total rebuild. They do return QB, 2 RB’s, TE, WR, & an OL (with another that had significant playing time due to injuries). Defensively, I think they return 5 who had good playing time. I don’t see another Quarterfinal run. But, depends on how they come together. The senior leadership they’re losing will be tough to replace. What do you think about your team?

  15. I can’t believe this is even an issue. This guy obviously has no daughters, but that’s not a requirement to see that this is wrong. I say tell the trans to have the surgery, then he/she can compete. That should stop about 99.9% of this hogwash.

  16. I really think that relocation is the equalizer. Physically moving.. changing your family's permanent address. Change of employment. How is the state going to tell a student/family that the only reason they did that was for athletic benefit. Even if it was.. if it's verbally said and signed that it wasn't, then that's it. A parent can simply say that they couldn't afford to live in their previous location. Which may be true. Using a secondary address... "living" with a relative... sure. Red flags.

  19. I'm of the weak opinion, (weak, because I only have opinions of coaches to back it up & not facts) that recruiting (a violation) is much less prevalent than athletes transferring on their own to a better suited school for athletic purposes (also a violation). None of it is acceptable to me, but I understand why people do it.

  20. You're doing the assuming. I do know some. Specifically the Quarterback at Argyle. He left Lake Dallas to become the Starter at Argyle. That isn't speculation. and once again. I DO NOT CARE why they are doing it. I really don't. GOOD FOR THEM. They still need to move those schools who are benefiting to a higher classification. Otherwise they are gaining an unfair advantage on the field. That is a statement of fact. Transfer all you want to better your situation. Go for it. Don't do it at the expense of hard working teams all over the state who get pushed out by an SOC, or whatever because you stacked your team. but if you're honest about MOST situations, it isn't hard to figure out why they are moving. Perhaps those SOC coaches should have kept their mouths shut in the elevator at AT&T last year? And that's just one example. I know of many first hand accounts because of some connections in Dallas. They boast about what they're doing.

  21. You ain’t mentioned not one fact, you’re claiming SOC is cheating & recruiting with no facts to support it. Every kid that plays for SOC has been cleared by the respective committee to participate. You said parents aren’t moving their kids to SOC/DISD for educational purposes another opinion lol let that hurt go tell PNG to open up their enrollment if not keep dealing with losing to the inner city schools with open enrollment.

  23. I didn't say all. I was speaking about SOC. North Shore is nothing like SOC. North Shore is a much better school district for education. SOC is factually one of the worst educational schools in Texas. One of the poorest schools in Texas. But hey, great football team with plenty of swag and gear. And talk about a dumb statement? Open up all schools to open enrollment? So kids in Texas will end up with what amounts to an 8th grade education when they do graduate? Yeah that makes sense.

  24. Accountability is a 2 way mirror. Many good points being made here. I definitely like the idea of moving them up a division. Especially if they just won back to back after dropping down cuz enrollment numbers. Seems a lil odd that would happen to a school known for recruiting without the need to. I had a conversation with a parent that really opened my eyes to the level some coaches are going to bring in talent. Even at the middle school level. Also I'd like to add that some schools have semi open enrollment. WOS for example has no qualifications to be met. Just come on in and we'll get more money from the state. Whereas LCM has standards for the transfers and a tuition fee that can be waived for low income students. They must have good attendance, discipline record, and maintain good grades.

  27. I think it would be a simple and important starting point to simply require the posting of every single transfer that includes athletic participation (and the sport/UIL activity) on a public, UIL-run website. If we actually got the data to see who is using transfers the most, we’d be better able to see where the problems are. And, if the number was known, it would be harder for the ones abusing the system to pretend it’s all normal. Because, even if there isn’t straight-up cheating going on, it’s plain that the rules are not being applied in a uniform manner across the board, and that the “no transfers for sports” purpose of the rules is being nakedly ignored by certain schools. If we could easily see who and how many and in what sports transfers are happening, it’s easier to actually pinpoint the problem, instead of having to rely on “It’s sure seems like that school has a lot.” Something definitely needs to be done. Some schools are trying to build programs organically. Certain other schools are making sure they always hold all the cards. That’s not how it’s supposed to be under the current rules. Having the actual numbers would help make that more clear.

  28. There were left wing plants all through that crowd trying to incite a riot, and they suceeded. Then, the J6 comittiee went ballistic when some Republicans like Mike Lee R-Utah exposed it. The pile of human garbage named Liz Cheney had the audacity to tweet Lee was a "wacko nutjob" for even suggesting there were left wing plants there stirring up violence. Now the truth is coming out, Liz. More to come, buckle up. Meanwhile people are urging dementia Joe to include Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson in the "preemptive pardon" list.

  29. You don't. Personally I think the only thing you can do is have teachers armed, and that will limit the number but there will still be deaths. Security guards can help, but the shooter will go where he ain't......at least they would not know what teacher is armed.

  31. AS mentioned before, the solution is very simple. If you have open enrollment, you will need to move up a classification. OR, they can create an entire division of Open enrollment schools to play. let them "recruit" against each other and they can do whatever they want and stay out of the way of Schools who continue to keep things closed and fair.

  32. I'm not saying there's not any "under the table" deals going on and some "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" when it comes to the DEC rulings. I am just stating the fact of how open enrollment schools work when it comes to UIL participation. Some are saying that all that's necessary is for a student to enroll in an open enrollment school. That is not accurate. They still have to be declared eligible by the DEC under UIL policies. I know some of the DEC's in the Dallas Metroplex have been very laxed when it comes to these decisions. Nobody wants to rule a kid ineligible because they don't want one of theirs to be ruled ineligible. The "scratch my back" gig. But UIL just came out with new policies that will help curb some of this "outlaw" transfer activities. It will not solve it completely but should help bring it down some.

  33. Nobody is going to a DISD school for an education. Definitely not SOC. I think it is simple. You have open enrollment you play up a division. I also think there should be some academic standard that has to be met in order to have open enrollment.

  35. The only reason Gunter isn’t playing for their 48th straight win and third straight undefeated season next week is because they had last year’s 4A-D1 state champion and this year’s probable 4A-D1 state champion on their schedule.

  36. Think about this school vouchers that will be approved in the future will do away with transfer students. With the voucher program kids will be able to go to school where they want and their tax dollars follow. Carthage would have competition Jasper for instance could compete. They would be able to pull all the best football players from Newton Woodville Burkeville even Silsbee to play for them . Schools would specialize by sport. Silsbee would be the basketball hub recruiting Jasper Kountze and Beaumont area kids. Bridge city would do the same in Baseball. I think transfers will become a thing of the past.
