In an effort to be more accommodating, a can of worms was opened wider as was predicted. In my previous post, I linked to four articles that provided the history of this argument. Informative. I dare say the situation has gotten a lot worse since the articles were written in 2015 which is why UIL & partners/stakeholders have decided something needs to change.

The season for North Shore was a total failure. I know that sounds harsh but we've come to have a state title or bust mentality. The defense played their tails off and kept us in a couple of games we probably should have lost. The offense just never found it's identity. We saw glimpses of what it could be, but it couldn't find consistency A lot are contemplating our demise but then they've been doing that for 20 plus years now. We may indeed fall back a bit, but don't look for us to fall off the face of the earth.

Special teams were very special for Gunter. As about as good as you can get. Particularly the punting.

I wasn’t a believer in Rigdon until we played them in non district and I got to watch him in person.. balance.. speed… and power. Now I gotta catch him on the court to see what he is like there.. obviously gotta be pretty good if he is playing both Football and Basketball at Wyoming

I agree completely. The experience he and the team received this year will go a long way towards next year.

BU needs to break the cycle of only keeping coaches for two or three years, they don’t get a chance to get established. (Need to make better hires of course). Probably need a new AD as well.

The whole issue revolves around a few things other coaches actively recruiting/poaching kids from other programs parents shopping kids trainers/ aau/ 7 on 7 coaches shopping kids Sure everyone wants to win and it’s a lot easier to go to currently successful programs than stick it out in a place that is struggling to win. As Lombardi said. Winning isn’t everything but wanting to is. Sometimes much more is gained by sticking it out and being part of a team that goes from 0-10 to 8-4.

Yes. 1981 it changed from the ‘sit a year’, possibly more policy that had been around since the ‘40’s. Not saying I agree or disagree. I can see good & bad for both. Just providing you the facts you kind of asked about. I think money has infected the game more than at any time in the past from varying parties. Well aware of the 60’s & 70’s. LOL

Hes good. Couple more and we can make a run. Its hard to compete with schools like Waco Lavega that has multiple schools in Waco Isd. Its hard to win it all with home grown kids anymore. But on a serious note i home United can find a good coach and be successful

Well we need WB's coach to leave, be forced out, or go coach somewhere else! And, take those Kelly coaches with him. Smdh...

BISD needs to change their way of thinking with this next hire. No more hiring friends, family, retreads, etc. Go outside the box and hire an up and coming coordinator and let him bring in his own staff. Would be amazed and what success they could have with that formula.

Several schools did about how one would expect. Silsbee's run was surprising after finding out how many was lost from the year before. I was probably the most surprised by Hardin. I would've lost money on just about everything related to their season. One win away from T2. Playoffs in general. Performance vs. Westwood. All completely unexpected. Similar sentiment.. I was surprised that Anahuac didn't even make the playoffs. In a district that weak.. one would figure that Anahuac would've had the guns to at least get in.

Nederland exceed my expectations. New Coaches and offense and defense scheme kids bought in. Had a chance to win district came just short. Won against PNG and everyone wrote them off saying they didn’t stand a chance… brought a new excitement to the town and school. Kids are buying in… safe to say the future is bright and Coach Rich and company are doing a heck of a job on and off the field in the community. Excited to see what the next few seasons hold

Some of you folks may remember a member of this site that went by Dickie V. Walter Yates Jr. suddenly passed away this morning. Walter was currently the head basketball coach at Texas College. He has been a head basketball coach at several high schools as well. Was an assistant to Boutte when Ozen won state championship. Dickie was a member here for several years. Always kept the basketball forum stirred up. I just spoke to him two days ago. Going to miss my friend. Walter was 50 years old. Prayers and condolences to his family and friends.
