This is the problem, Poole at BH has a massive ego and typically gets what he wants when he wants it. Kids don't want to cut their hair, well that is not an issue because he can expel them with impunity because he has the absolute 100% support of the community, especially the old guard "we can, we will we're Barbers Hill" folks. Even with the media crawling all over the district on the issue, he continues to operate the way he always has because of that support. I actually like that aspect of this community. Poole very rarely misses when he swings, so that breeds the confidence to make controversial moves whenever they may arise. It may even play into the willingness to force out a damn good football coach simply because his son isn't playing as much as Poole would like. He's done this same thing at least 3 times before and each time it has worked out beautifully because the candidate he brought in after the previous was disposed of was considered a big enough fish make the community forget about the last guy. This actually may be the first time he has run up against a chance that it won't end up that way. Trust and believe, if he were to land a coach with the last name 'Dodge' this offseason, none of us would ever talk about this situation again. The only conversation would be that BH somehow hired Todd/Reily Dodge, and they were on a Rocketship to the moon. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out because if it ends with a relatively unknown coach who doesn't produce the football success those in town expect, it could go sideways for Poole. I guess we will all be sitting around with our popcorn to see if he can pull another rabbit out of his hat.3 points -

Yes, he transferred from West Brook. Had to play JV last year do to transfer rule. He may not start immediately because being out with injury, but he will eventually start. Before his injury in last playoff football game, he was expected to be one of Silsbee's starting five. That came from the coaching staff. He proved himself during JV play last year. Lot's of coaches in district said he was the best JV player in the district last year. He will make a significant difference when he returns.3 points -

Yeah, thatβs all he if doing is trolling. TDS is alive and well. You act like Trump isnβt planning on shutting down the border, start deporting people by US law, start negotiations with other countries over the economy, opening up US offshore oil exploration that Biden conveniently closed in almost the last week of his presidency, closing some of Bidenβs electric vehicle mandates, opening up more fossil fuel production and refilling our strategic oil reserves that Biden depleted in an effort to make gasoline prices fall a few cents per gallon when it was his policies that created the problem, continuing the income tax cuts that will expire this year, etc. πππ Apparently his trolling, which takes about 30 seconds out of his day and a lot less time that it takes me to post this, is paying dividends. Thanks for playing.2 points

Great win for A&M at Oklahoma. They were getting blown out most of the game. A guy averaging 5.9 a game went 9-11 from 3 scoring 34. Ags win without their best player on the road with a 18 point 2nd half comeback.2 points -

I donβt have any insight into why Abseck left. But my two cents: Based on watching my family members deal with the BH administration (Iβve got nieces and nephews in BH school district), I wouldnβt want to be employed there. Itβs all petty politics and people letting power go to their heads. Iβm getting this secondhand, but the βI canβt believe we have to deal with thisβ kind of stories Iβve heard add up to a giant red flag.2 points

I will say this, BH has over achieved last couple of years. If you look at certain positions and the amount of injuries weβve had to key players, I think Abseck did a great job. I know there were grumbling about the work hours for staff, but I would curious to see Abseckβs record at BH compared to the others. As far as the other stuff, rumors are rumors, and last I checked BH is still a great school district, and in great financial shape.1 point -

It is a great school district, with an awesome community. One of the best districts to work in and have your kids attend (speaking from experience) They do have a good all around athletic program (and have had for decades) - have not had a dominant football program, but very competitive kids. Hopefully, he will hire a good coach and let him do his job understanding the transition to 6A is coming soon. It is a good job with GREAT pay, but just like any other - has its own set of challenges.1 point -

Sterling is not a bad team and it was at Baytown (Bay Area Chapter officials, nuff said). Memorial needs a shooter. They are by far the best defensive team in the district but have a hard time scoring. Their defense will keep them in every game but their lack of offense will lose some games. I see the game tomorrow night being close but I predict West Brook to pull it out due to their guard play on the offensive end.1 point -
I've heard enough from teachers that work there that I haven't even considered applying over there, despite the approximately 30% raise it would mean for me.1 point

Barbers Hill has been playing without their best offensive player the last two games against United and PN-G. He makes a world of difference for them offensively. He's not bad on the defensive end as well being a '6"6 wing. IMO, this is why United got the win and the PN-G game was close. I think this is a very competitive district but West Brook is the best team. I still think a healthy Barbers Hill team is the next best, followed by Memorial. I am curious to see how United does against Nederland. I'll probably attend that game. I'll be at PAM/West Brook tomorrow night.1 point -

What sticks out to me is the way the BH admin seems to be going about the hiring process. It smacks of (1) extreme overconfidence, (2) incompetence, or both. I may be wrong, but donβt schools usually proceed with some kind of system? That is, they announce the opening, put together a hiring committee, hire a consultant (if they want a consultant), interview the candidates, narrow down to a few finalists, and make a decision. BH doesnβt seem to be doing that. It all seems pretty haphazard.1 point

All I think are pretty smart bets. I went this route and also parlayed. Got to make back some of that money lost on quarterfinals. I know, I know. Don't chase lost money.1 point -
Unfortunately, this is the situation that has been created by the admin at BH. No one wants to uproot their family, move them to BH, just to be removed in a few years for not doing what they are told. Especially with the move to 6A pending, this job is at its absolute least degree of desirability at this very moment. Abseck would've stayed and continued to build for years to come, but alas, that ship has sailed. They were in the same boat many years back when they ran Don Price off but then began the inflated salary technique to lure in big time candidates. Gauge, Westerberg and Abseck later, they find themselves in the same boat with very few chips left to play to lure in a big fish. I have no doubt they'll get a great coach, but the days of hand picking their guy are probably over.1 point

First, he's not even there yet. Second -- his policies weren't inflationary the first time. But, your guy's policies were. Again -- you can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts!1 point

Sounds like a problem if true. May find it harder to lure big name like they seem to want to do with just throwing around $$$ if thereβs an Admin issue. Thatβs 2 name coaches in a fairly short span that thought it was a dream job to wind up not staying all that long. Not a coach. But, if I was one, I might be a bit leery.1 point

I was /am generally a fan of Abseck. YES there are some who are not, I get that and respect their opinions, but I see things differently. He did better that TW while at the helm. Abseck made the playoffs every single year (TW did not) and he had a huge win or two along the way. Absecks team have been plagued by injuries so the team has not had a full strength playoff run lately. Thats was not his fault. I wish him all the best with whatever he does. As far as the BH job itself, it will attract MANY, MANY qualified candidates from across the state. The pay is great and the tools are there to work with. The future looks just as bright for BH.1 point -
