  1. Without knowing what was actually happened, there are lots of what ifs. What if there suspect had a weapon or something that looked like a weapon? Anyone has the right of self defense based on a reasonable belief. What if the suspect appeared to be committing a felony (in this case was) and yelled a threat at the officer? I would say that the officer has the right of self defense. A person escaping from a correctional facility can have deadly force used against him if a correctional officer or police officer reasonably believes that deadly force is necessary if the prisoner is about to escape. What if none if that happened and the officer knew that it was not an escape attempt, knew that the person had not yelled threats and did not see what appeared to be a deadly weapon, threatening the officer? In other words, it appeared to be a non-violent felony in progress. At that point, deadly force would not likely be lawful.

  3. FYI, UIL wasn't the driving force for this division split. It was majority (not all and mostly volleyball and boys basketball) of what other sport coaches wanted. They felt left out because football is split. IMO, divisions are needed in football due to the numbers. Other sports do not need divisions. Hopefully at next realignment they go to divisional districts like football but there is no guarantee that UIL will do that.

  5. I believe it exists. It used to be called affirmative action but when the Supreme Court tossed out affirmative action, they came up with a new name. DEI is affirmative action retitled.

This administration is horrible. Trump has around 40 pending lawsuits

  7. For starters, Hamshire-Fannett QB Ty Bryson passed for 3527 yards and 42 TD's while leading his team to district championship and 2nd round of the playoffs. Thomas had 2089 yards rushing and 24 TD's on a 4th place team that was eliminated in 1st round. Personally (and I do have a vote) it's down to those two for me for offense.

  8. Would love to get an explanation as to whether there are any ramifications for the officer having done this. I have some theories on it, but I know @tvc184 can likely give a detailed explanation on whether or not the officer acted appropriately, and why, based on Texas law.

  9. Keep forgetting about D1 vs D2. What a joke, totally waters down the playoffs...in 5A especially where there is only a few decent teams in the entire region combined. Skipping a round to boot to get to semifinals. Sad

    Silsbee playoffs

It's going to be uphill all the way but it's possible. There are several higher ranked teams between Silsbee and San Antonio but none in the top 5. If they get past Center tonight the game at the end of the week will tell the tale. In a way last year's graduating class can be called the Hard Luck Kids. First there was Covid. Then there was the absurd Faith Family thing. If there had been a one year offset, if they were still around this year, they'd have cruised to a Div 2 State Champion

  13. Congrats to Tay Hunter. He's still unsigned by the way. Good as he is he should have some really good offers by now regardless of his measurements or whatever they go by.

  14. I agree. I'll be curious to see what HISD does if UIL makes divisional districts at next realignment. In the past, HISD has always opted up for their 4A schools to be in the same football district with other HISD schools. It puts all of them in 4A DI football district even though several have DII enrollments. If UIL makes schools that choose to opt up a division or class (like what BC, HJ and Liberty did in football) for all sports and not just football, then HISD will have a decision to make with some of their schools. I think it would be wrong to allow schools to opt up for one sport but allowed to stay put for other sports. You opt up, you opt up for everything.

  15. I tend to agree with you. It makes for some weird first and second round matchups as well. That said, as I've been saying for the last 10 years or so, while they don't need divisions, there needs to be some sort of provisions put in for inner city schools that keep their enrollment down but bring in talent from all over their city. Silsbee got screwed playing FF a few times, but I also always thought it was ridiculous that they had to try and get through Houston schools to make it to state, and then Dallas schools to win state. I remember that 2007 state run for HJ they beat teams like Wylie, Chapel Hill, and Columbia. That HJ squad was an excellent small-town school. Year in and year out Silsbee is an excellent small-town school. They should get to play schools from similar communities in the playoffs the same way they do in district. Without the Houston and Dallas schools finding ways to stay in 4A with their giant talent pools I'm pretty comfortable saying that Silsbee could easily be approaching 7-8 state championships in the last 12 or so years if the playoffs were appropriate.

  17. Wait. You are not going to the Bellville/Stafford boys basketball playoff game tonight? What kind of Bellville fan are you? Have to start calling you a "WO-S, Newton" type fan. All football and to heck with everything else. lol

    Silsbee playoffs

Looking at the Silsbee side of the bracket, they can definitely win if they play up to their potential. They just can't have any off nights.

    Stay Classy

When I said my personal feeling does not matter, it was about not agreeing with H-D getting the ban. UIL saw fit to ban them (and I believe there is merit, like I said I can't argue much about that) but according to all parties involved that spoke with me, UIL did not ban Burkeville. Those are the facts. Your comparison is not a good one. UIL banned Faith Family for recruiting violations before the season started. There was no season to qualify them for playoffs. Ban was before the first game was played. Burkeville situation is much different. They had already eliminated themselves from playoffs based on their district record prior to the H-D game. Now, had the UIL banned Burkeville for next years playoffs based off this incident, then I could understand your point. My "evidence" is my communications with coaches, admins and committee representatives. I trust what they told me on the rulings. When all three sides basically tell me the same thing, got to think it's the truth. UIL doesn't ban for the sake of being fair. All their punishments have repercussions. That's how their policy boards and executive committees work. They are not going to ban a team from playoffs if the team was already ineligible. They issue other types of punishments. Which was the case here. You not believing me or saying I have to provide proof really does not concern me. I have no reason to lie about any of this nor would I. I take great pride in my credibility here and with the local coaches. They have trust in me and I have trust in them. I'm sorry that you don't.

    DOGE!!

So it's cool to point out 1 administration? If it's already spent why talk about it and not other wasteful spendings? "They are looking at stopping the ridiculous spending today" but talking about only 1 administration spendings... if what you say is true why talk about it and not just put a end to it? Figured it was reasonable to point out a few administrations wasteful spending but that's just me... I'm sure if Conald wasn't 45th then they'd go back to the Obama era... suspect to say the least
