The small/big split should've been done so as districts. Honestly, if they're dead set on doing it that way, they should have created the football districts the way they currently do... and then just said that those were the districts for every sport. Doing it this way, there are examples where the "small" schools that made the playoffs in one district are bigger than the "big" schools that made it in others. What a joke. Small school champions and big school school champions? Ok.. fine.. just make the football districts the districts for every sport.

I hate to say this but it’s true. The San Antonio/ Region 4 competition is not as difficult as the Houston or Dallas Regions. Now CCVM did beat 6A state finalist Katy Jordan early in the season here in Houston in the Vype Invitational. However both SA Brennan (6A) and CCVM both lost yesterday. Both were TABC polls #1 team in each classification. What’s funny is MaxPreps had WB as the #1 team in 5A the majority of this season. The region 4 competition is also weaker in football with the exception of Westlake and Vandergrift

To be fair, after watching a true crime show with the wife last week, things have actually improved at Hull Daisetta. At least they don’t still have principals murdering coaches for stealing their secretary girlfriends. So kudos may actually be in order as opposed to suspensions…

To expound: UIL handed out punishment following the fight in the Hull-Daisetta/Burkeville game Feb. 11. The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Wednesday to issue penalties for potential UIL rule violations. All student-athletes involved in the altercation between Burkeville High School and Hull-Daisetta High School are suspended from all UIL activities for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year. This does not reduce any prior suspensions given to student-athletes by each school. Burkeville High School Head Basketball Coach Aaron Hallford, Hull-Daisetta Head Basketball Coach Trent Wallace, and Hull-Daisetta Assistant Basketball Coach Dannon Wafer were all issued two-years probation and a public reprimand. Both head coaches will also report back their progress in implementing lessons from the Texas Way. The Burkeville High School and Hull-Daisetta High School athletic departments both received two-years probation.

As a somewhat moderate conservative I had real hopes that the dems would take a lesson from this last election cycle and move back to the middle some. Not because I want to vote for them, but because with the two parties so polarized it's difficult to get a lot of things done. But I guess this is the next best thing. If everyone is doing okay at the end of 4 years Vance will cakewalk to victory in the next election. Maybe then the libs will figure out where they went wrong, I dunno.

I’ll admit I was in school still when going to the state tournament in Austin so I didn’t have to deal with adult issues as far as traffic and hotels… I’ve been a couple times to San Antonio to watch Kountze and Silsbee and I’ll say I really enjoyed it. I also don’t like the split divisions… mainly because I wanted to see a Kountze/Tatum matchup for the state championship 😂 but I hate that there isn’t a regional tournament anymore

Coach Toomer is calling it quits at Baytown Sterling. “Sterling High School head football coach Robert Toomer resigned from Goose Creek CISD Monday night for undisclosed personal reasons. Nancy Bonds, the district’s director of communications, did not provide any information regarding the resignation citing personnel confidentiality. The coach’s departure came as a shock to many of the athletes and parents in the football program. Hired by the school district in May 2018, Toomer had seven seasons as the head football coach and posted a record of 17-52.”

There are school bus routes for BISD that take over an hour and a half to run. There are some kids that daily take bus rides of an hour to almost two hours going to and coming from school. This is with 2 schools. Pretty sure you would add even more time to some of those routes if it was just one high school.

This forum is where I made my first post about the STJFL back in 2008.....lol Unfortunately youth sports is not for the weak of heart or mind. I don't think it will ever be perfect, but through it all, (even the famous fight of 2008-my kid was on one of the teams) my Son and I have some great memories of Saturday football and weekday practices. Through it all, we got to see boys who would cry when they were pushed grow into tough young men. Hopefully this evolves into something positive

We love to bitch and moan about coaches/coaching but aren’t so quick to give credit where it’s due. Lamar has improved every single year under Brooks’ tenure. I don’t know how much more you can ask for, especially when the one team finishing ahead of you is paying to get players who have played, could play for some lower power 4/5 schools. Marco Born was pretty much a train wreck as AD at Lamar but I think we can safely say he got this one right. Not only has Alvin Brooks done a good job building this program, he’s a fine man who is 100% loyal to the University. Let’s give credit where it’s due.

Get a little better at blocking and tackling. Improve on catching the ball and running the ball while also making some gains passing the ball. If they can do this, they should improve.
