  1. also, why would anyone read that report and think "i better get on the website and rub this in!" that mindset might be the reason some people feel the way they do about the hill.

  2. In 2013, the Committee to Protect Journalists released a report titled “The Obama Administration and the Press,” which began with this paragraph: “U.S. President Barack Obama came into office pledging open government, but he has fallen short of his promise. Journalists and transparency advocates say the White House curbs routine disclosure of information and deploys its own media to evade scrutiny by the press. Aggressive prosecution of leakers of classified information and broad electronic surveillance programs deter government sources from speaking to journalists.” I've got a whole lot more where that came from. The liberal New York Times stated: “Over the past eight years, the (Obama) administration has prosecuted nine cases involving whistle-blowers and leakers, compared with only three by all previous administrations combined. It has repeatedly used the Espionage Act, a relic of World War I-era red-baiting, not to prosecute spies but to go after government officials who talked to journalists.” Politicians are scum - both sides. "Your guy" ain't no better than the other guy...

I’m glad you posted this. You are so mad at the world that you can’t even contribute to a “memories” post without bringing up race. Are you mad at just the slave owners(only 10% owned slaves) or are you mad at your ancestors for selling them?

If you can’t recall some shareable, memorable and enjoyable times when you were growing up, that would explain some your distain for others and their culture. BTW - me and my family have plenty in our past that we would like to forget, but I choose not to focus on it. I’d rather focus on my blessings rather than misfortunes.

  11. Stop acting like you’re the only one who knows anything. What I said rings true. They could never envision Biden’s invasion of 20 million migrants. They didn’t have drug smugglers, paid human traffickers, and violent criminals coming across the borders (which were much smaller then). Times were totally different then. Even though they had open borders and encouraged immigration, they were concerned about the non-contributing immigrants being worthy of becoming Americans. The immigrants back then weren’t blood suckers looking for a handout and toting flags of the country from which they seek asylum. You’re the one who needs to read and use common sense. Here’s an excerpt of Washington’s and Madison’s opinions: RELATED: The Trouble with the ‘Nation of Immigrants’ Argument No, not because “diversity” is our greatest value. No, not because Big Business needed cheap labor. And no, Madison asserted, “Not merely to swell the catalogue of people. No, sir, it is to increase the wealth and strength of the community; and those who acquire the rights of citizenship, without adding to the strength or wealth of the community are not the people we are in want of.” Madison argued plainly that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily “incorporate himself into our society.” George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, similarly emphasized that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that, “by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people.” #share#Alexander Hamilton, relevant as ever today, wrote in 1802: “The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education, and family.”

  12. He is just a basketball coach looking to advance his career in basketball. English is not leaving Nederland just yet so the head basketball coach position is not open for Bryant to apply for. Bryant will not go to Nederland and bring his sons without being the head basketball coach.

  13. Well you can take Bryant out of the equation. He is no longer in the running for the Silsbee basketball job.

would you take exception to white supremacist protestors being allowed to take over at UT, disrupting learning and threatening minorities? or would you support it? And would you support UT faculty allowing, and even leading those protests? I mean, it's freedom of speech, after all.

Those are fair points, but the flip side of that is he's going to be more physically mature as he goes from being a sophomore to a junior and he'd have a much better supporting cast at Silsbee if he indeed left...you have to take that into account too..I've seen the kid in person and he's an elite talent...there's a reason he's got the offers he does for football, because he's got every tool in the belt

If we had a penny, we’d buy one pack of Bazooka bubble gum with the comic paper inside. It was perforated and we split it between the two of us. We’d split a candy bar, but they were a nickel. Mr. Cola bottles would break against a tree. The old Coke bottles would bounce off. Turned in tons of bottles. Back then, a kid could buy packs of cigarettes for their parents. It was legal and the store clerk probably knew the parents. Man how times have changed.

My skateboard sucked also. But, it was all the more exciting when you took a rope, had a buddy tie it to the back of their bike & haul butt pulling you while you jumped your homemade piece of crap ramp made with half rotted plywood down the middle of your busy street. Oh, and with no helmet or knee/elbow pads. Just shorts, flip-flops & clean ears from the Q-tips. The rest of the alcohol was used after a few jumps & the butt-whoopin came when you finally went inside later that night looking like you’d been in a bear fight and it was found that you’d ruined a half salvageable piece of plywood your dad was saving for something and you’d left the water hose running wasting water. 😁

  33. Nothing wrong with immigration. But—as was famously said—you can’t have open borders and a welfare state. Milton Friedman Cato Institute is libertarian. Their slogan is basically ‘build a wall around the welfare state, not around the nation.’ I think most people with a lick of common sense understand the two can’t co-exist without restrictions. So—as a liberal—you either have to give up your big government spending, or open immigration. You choose. @UT alum

  34. The majority of the crap he catches on here is a result of the nonsensical posts from his groupies, not the energy he brings. One district championship and a handful of you guys started inserting him into every conversation about elite coaches or elite job openings that came up. Never seen anything like it on this site for another coach. The last four years have at least calmed some of that down. But to get back on topic: I personally don't see Silsbee hiring a guy who coaches a completely different style than what they run, and has had minimal success against them.
    2 points
  35. Even if he did apply, I do not think Silsbee is looking to hire a guy who is going to try to coach in a style he has never coached before, that is an elite job, they will get someone with a better resume that already knows about coaching their style of basketball.

Not sure if it's for advertisements, scheduled event info, or what. But, it looked like another video screen to me. I took some pics of the complex. But, I cant seem to get them to upload. Too big & I can't compress enough. Maybe, they'll do another drone flyover soon. Still planning on going to the Spring game. So, maybe I can do better then.

    Umpire Shortage

I totally agree with this message, cause I would travel almost two hours to do a game @4 finish that game then drive back almost an hour to do a 7 game, then drive home. I spent so many hours away from family, I would umpire 4-5 nights a week just cause I love baseball and umpiring, but if only the parents would suit up in umpiring uniform and become an umpire! Remember were human we all make mistakes!

    Umpire Shortage

I have officiated HS football and baseball for years. Fans, coaches, players have all gotten out of hand with belittling umpires. We could care less, what teams are playing and do the best we can to call a fair game. I have a great job and make more money than most, at my regular job. So officiating HS sports is a hobby that most of us take seriously. We are going to make mistakes in both sports, but nothing is ever intentional. We have always had shortages of officials and its 100 percent due to parents and coaches totaling bashing us for the 3 hours they have on the field. Some of TASO officials work 4-5 nights a week to make sure we have some sort of coverage for your games. We spend time away from our families because we love the game and not necessarily for the money. Sometimes I wish that I could walk away from officiating, but guilt sets in when there are 2 teams, 1 driving 45 minutes away to get to a game, only to have no official show up do officiate the game. I have been the only official on the field for a 9th grade and even a JV game only to have coaches screaming at the top of their lungs, about a hold that I didn't see. Anyways, if we had more of the fan base, put on some stripes, and take on some of these games, you might get a better called game due to officials just not being overworked. Thanks for listening.

  46. The younger people who are contributing into a 401K or similar are getting a MUCH better bang for their buck right now vs. the greatly overpriced market they were buying into a year or so ago. People don't understand stocks are "on sale" now instead of being "overpriced". My best investing ever happened during the Covid crash. I made a ton of money then.
