  1. Good to see Newton moving on up..I still feel like the AP voters are idiots for not having Tatum on Top
  2. This poll is done by a combination of about 10 different voters...if the voters dont vote for the 1a teams, then they dont show up on the rankings. If another team impresses the voters, there's always a chance that they will jump ahead of other teams, even if they havent lost. There will however be some sort of rankings put it in place for the 1a's and the remaining 2a's who were not included, before the start of district..stay tuned on that. If you disagree with the poll, that is fine. It is just a poll. There is nothing wrong with coming on here and letting us know why you think your team should or should not for that matter be on the poll. In fact it is encouraged. ..Thanks guys
  3. The Top 10 1. West Brook-250 The Bruins survived a close one in the second half of the Beaumont Bowl Friday. Nevertheless, they played a tough Central team, and showed a lot team character coming back to win, after falling behind 14-0. We will all find out what West Brook is made out of when they face the always tough and talented Spring Westfield. 2. WO-S- 237 The Mustangs come in once again at #2 this week after defeating their cross town rivals LCM Friday Night. WO-S may have been taken by surprise a little, when LCM came out and played them close in the first half, but the Stangs had no problem with the Bears in the second half coming away with a 35-14 victory. Look for Bay City to give WO-S a fight this week. 3. (Tied) Central- 227 Even after losing a tough one Friday to West Brook, The Jags still come in at #3 this week. If there was every any doubt that Central is the real deal, we can all throw that out the window. The Jaguars gave their cross town rivals all they wanted and more. Central should get back into the win column this week after playing a not so good Houston Sterling team. 3. (Tied) Memorial- 227 What a huge win it was Friday for Ronnie Thompson and his Memorial Titans. PAM held off the surging Ozen Panthers and secured the first ever win in the Thompson Era. Memorial jumps up into a tie with Central for the 3rd place spot in our poll. 5. Nederland- 203 Remaining at #5 this week, Nederland handled a Forest Brook easily and got into the win column for the first time in 2006. The Bulldogs shouldn’t have a problem this week when they face Waller. Look for Big Ned to cruise into district play riding a two game winning streak. 6. (Tied) Ozen- 189 Ozen loses no ground in the rankings this week after a heart breaking loss to Memorial. The Panthers showed Southeast Texans something by coming back in that game after falling behind big. Athleticism makes Ozen a legitimate playoff contender. Seguin up next for the Panthers. 6. (Tied) Dayton – 189 The Broncos rebounded nicely after losing to WO-S in Week Zero. Dayton put together a solid game against a Nacogdoches team that many believe have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs in a tough 12-4a district. Friendswood should be another good test for Dayton this week. 8. Newton- 182 The Eagles apparently haven’t lost a step from last year. This is truly a program that never rebuilds, just reloads. An impressive victory over 3a Crockett, and solid play from the Newton Offense leads us to believe Newton will be there in the end this year as they always are. Big game for the Eagles this week as they take on their arch rivals, Jasper at The Boneyard. 9. PNG- 175 PNG bounced back nicely after losing to a great Brenham team on Friday. The Indians jump up one spot this week after a good win against Crosby. PNG has a huge game this week against Silsbee. We should know a lot more about the Indians after this one. 10. Silsbee- 167 Dropping down one spot this week is Silsbee, even after a win against Houston Sterling. The Tigers put up a great offensive showing, but an average at best defensive showing. Silsbee will have their chance this week to get their spot back as they come into the Reservation to take on #9 PNG. 11-25 11. Barbers Hill- 152 12. Bridge City- 135 13. Lumberton- 128 14. 4. If you want the Beaumont Enterprise to have Silsbee Stats, then you can call them in after the game is over. If you know someone who can or wants to do that, pm me and I'll get you in contact with the proper people. I even want to say that there is a little pay involved, but dont quote me on that

  17. Former Jasper LB and Willy Ray Smith Winner Making an Impact [Hidden Content] COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Chase Daniel set a Missouri record with five touchdown passes, helping the Tigers beat Murray State 47-7 on Saturday. Daniel, making his first career start, was 23-of-32 for 320 yards with a passer rating of 207.44. He broke the school mark that was held by six others, including Brad Smith, who had four in last season's opening 44-17 win over Arkansas State. It was first game since 2001 that featured someone other than Smith starting at quarterback for the Tigers. Smith, Missouri's all-time leading passer and rusher, was a four-year starter and holds 69 school, Big 12 and NCAA records. Daniel showed he also is pretty good, dominating the overmatched Racers, a Division I-AA team that was 2-9 last season and 0-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Tigers needed just six plays to take the lead for good. Daniel's quick toss to Will Franklin became a 60-yard scoring pass when Franklin spun past the cornerback and ran untouched into the end zone. Daniel connected with Brad Ekwerekwu on an 8-yard touchdown pass and with Chase Coffman on a 3-yard score later in the first quarter as the Tigers drove effortlessly against Murray State. In the second quarter, Marcus Woods scored on a 2-yard run and Daniel and Franklin connected again, this time on a 34-yard scoring pass in the final minute of the half. The record-breaking touchdown pass came with 10:53 to play when Daniel hit a wide-open Jared Perry down the left sideline, putting Missouri ahead 47-0. ******The Tigers also scored on a safety in the third quarter when Sean Weatherspoon blocked a punt out of the end zone, and on a 38-yard field goal by Jeff Wolfert.********* Missouri's defense played well, too. Murray State, in the first game under new coach Matt Griffin, didn't make a first down until 7:34 remained in the second quarter. By then, Missouri was head 21-0. Starting quarterback Ryne Salyer was 8-of-13 for 39 yards with a lost fumble and an interception. Backup Zac Barnard was 12-of-17 for 89 yards and a touchdown. The Racers' leading rusher, Chad Cook, gained 12 yards on 31 carries. Murray State's lone score came late in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard TD pass from Barnard to Nate Moore.
  18. Jasper's new QB is better than Moye...William Ellis...give him a few games and see what happens..i believe he's the next big thing to come out of Jasper
  19. Congrats! Player of the Week Justin Williams- Deweyville SR. 253 yards Rushing 5 TD's
  20. The SETXsports Top 10 will be announced beginning next week on Channel 6! Week 0 brought us some very entertaining games across the area. Friday saw two games that pitted teams from the preseason top ten against each other as preseason #1 West Brook defeated preseason # 6 Ozen and preseason #2 WO-S defeated preseason #7 Dayton. There wasn’t much shakeup for the #1-#5 spots, but the bottom half saw some changes for Week 1. A few teams have switched places and some new faces have emerged as preseason contenders. #/School Name/Points Received 1. West Brook 300 The Bruins started off the 2006 season with a big win over Ozen 35-14 Friday night at Lamar Cardinal Stadium. The Bruin offense was led by sophomore tailback Christan Michael who rushed for 134 of the Bruins 250 yards and two touchdowns in his varsity debut. Joe Chaisson also added three touchdowns, two on the ground and one in the air. West Brook now heads into game two of the Beaumont Bowl series this week when they take on Central at Lamar Friday night. 2. WO-S 287 The Mustangs found themselves in a war Friday night in Dayton as both teams showcased their defenses in the first half and took a 6-6 tie into halftime. The Stangs came out firing in the second half and would eventually pull away late to defeat the Broncos 26-9 to begin the year 1-0. The WO-S defense was able to keep all-star running back Michael Dugat in check, holding him to just 70 yards. The Mustang offense was led by quarterback Andre Bevil as he passed for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. DePauldrick Garrett added 94 yards and Earl Thomas added 68 yards on the ground. The Mustangs will renew their rivalry with LC-M Friday when the “Orange Bowl” will be played at Dan R. Hooks Stadium. 3. Central 275 The Jaguar’s offense was definitely clicking Friday night at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown as Central took down 5A Baytown Lee 21-9. The Jaguar offense pumped out 413 yards of total offense while the defense held Lee to just 141 yards. Quarterback Brandon Williams was 7-13 for 211 yards and 1 touchdown through the air and also rushed for 105 yards on 9 carries. Receiver Michael Henry hauled in 3 catches for 81 yards in the contest. The Jaguars will now take on West Brook at Lamar Friday night. 4. Memorial 262 Memorial had a bye in week 0 and will open up their season Friday night when they host the Ozen Panthers at Memorial Stadium. Look for this to be a good one, as Coach Ronnie Thompson coaches his first game back in in Port Arthur. The eyes of Texas will be upon this program as they take the first step into what they hope will be the beginning of something great. PA may have to rely on the run against Ozen, because of the fact that the Panthers boast one of the best secondaries in the state. 5. Nederland 246 The Bulldogs hung tough with the #8 4A team in the state Friday night at Reliant Stadium, but in the end La Marque would be too much, racking up 362 yards of offense and taking a 28-20 victory over Nederland. A surprising stat is that Nederland only managed 4 first downs the entire game but still only lost by 8. Tailback Micah Mosley led the Bulldog offense with 136 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns of 68 and 57 yards. The Bulldogs will have their home opener this week when they host Houston Forest Brook at Bulldog Stadium. 6. Ozen 239 Even with the great performance of quarterback London Durham the Panthers couldn’t overcome the 5A West Brook Bruins as they fell 35-14 in the season opener Friday night at Lamar’s Cardinal Stadium. Durham was 16-33 for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns in Friday’s loss to the Bruins. Unfortunately, two touchdowns would not be enough as the Panther defense gave up 316 yards and 35 points. The Panther defense will once again be heavily tested this week as they travel to Memorial Stadium in Port Arthur to face the Titans. 7. Dayton 223 The Broncos were “welcomed” to Southeast Texas football Friday night. However, it wasn’t the welcome they were hoping for as they fell in the season opener 26-9 to WO-S. They played the Mustangs tough for one half as they took a 6-6 tie into halftime. But the Stangs would come out firing in the second half and pull away late for the win. Dayton all-star running back Michael Dugat was kept in check by the “Chain Gang” defense of WO-S as he managed just 70 yards on the ground. Quarterback Andrew Thomas had the bulk of the rushing yards as he rushed for 108 yards in the contest. Dayton will be at home again this week as they welcome the Nacogdoches Dragons to Bronco Stadium. 8. Newton 215 Newton had a bye in week 0 and will open up their season Friday night when they host the 3A Crockett Bulldogs at Singletary Stadium. Suprsingly, Crockett took 4a Powerhouse, Kilgore to Double Overtime in Week Zero. This could quite possibly be Newton's toughest test of the season. QB Darrell Jenkins will need to have a huge game if the Eagles want to open up their season with a win 9. Silsbee 203 Silsbee opens up at home against 4a Houston Sterling. This will be a good confidence builder for a Silsbee team that has some tough games ahead. Look for Wiliam Harper and Rocky Calhoun to have huge games Friday Night. 10. PNG 189 After losing to the state #1 ranked 4a team in Brenham on Friday Night, the Indians will look to rebound and get their first win against Crosby. PNG comes in at #10 this week, but with a poor showing next week, could drop out of the top 10. Regardless, we still see PNG as one of the stronger teams in the area at this point.
