District 22-3a 1. Jasper- The Dawgs should win district 22-3a failry easily. Led by Senior SETXsports MVP Candidate Will Alvis, Jasper should have no problem going undefeated in district. They have a very solid pitching staff for a 3a team, which will only get better when junior pitcher Travis Reagan comes back. Everyone in their lineup can hit the ball, and hit it consistently. The Bulldogs come into district play a battled tested team after playing a tough schedule. 2. Silsbee- Perhaps the brightest spot on the Tigers’ season thus far is an upset over surprise team Hamshire-Fannett. Pitchers Schooling, Skinner, and McDonald should help Silsbee secure 2nd place in the district, but it is highly unlikely they will give Jasper a run for their money. With that said, Coach Trahan does have this team and program going in the right direction 3. Kirbyville- The Wildcats haven’t had much luck winning games this season. They have played some descent competition, but it won’t benefit them enough to get them into the top 2 spots. Brothers Drew and Aaron Hazlewood have both been hitting the ball well, but those guys by themselves won’t beat Silsbee or Jasper. 4. Buna- The Cougs could beat out Kirbyville for the number three spot. They did have a descent win over WO-S earlier in the year. 5. Shepherd- Same story, different sport for the Pirates. Just outmatched in this district. Next year can’t come soon enough. 6. Coldspring District 23-3a 1. Barber’s Hill- The area’s only undefeated team left. Even though the Eagles haven’t played a tough schedule, their undefeated record is impressive nonetheless. The BH teams have traditionally been able to hit well, and this year’s team is no different. Huffman will challenge BH, but we still think the Eagles will come out on top. 2. Huffman- The Falcons have done well this year after playing some descent competition. Look for them to take the second spot in 23-3a fairly easily and possibly beat out Barbers Hill for the district championship. Huffman is already a forced to be reckoned with, and once their ace pitcher Bagley returns from injury they will be a very dangerous team. 3. Cleveland- Who? This is the team the came out of nowhere to demolish the #1 3a team in the state Bridge City. Let’s not forget, BC did handle them easily in the game before. The jury’s still out for this team. 4. Splendora- Had some nice wins at the Shepherd Tournament, and may be able to claim the third spot in the district. 5. Liberty 6. Tarkington District 24-3a 1. Bridge City- It is no secret how good this team is. With ace pitcher Kevin Angelle, the Cards should win district and make a lot of noise in the playoffs. Look for outfielders Dishon and Sparks, and pitchers Haymon and Stringer to lead Bridge City to another 24-3a District Tiltle. However, it does appear the Cardinals may have some unexpected competition from Hamshire-Fannett. 2. Hamshire-Fannett- Easily the biggest surprise of the season thus far. The Longhorns have won two tournaments this year, one in which they defeated both LCM and Jasper. HF could make 24-3a into a very interesting race. Second team All SETX Team catcher Abe Barrera is one of the area’s best and pitchers Neal, Cuniff, Sanchez, and Lange should all help Fannett challenge Bridge City for the district championship. 3. Hardin Jefferson- The Hawks haven’t been overly impressive this year, but do have a better outlook than any of the other teams left in 24-3a. They did play LCM close earlier this year in LCM’s own tourney. Both Roebuck kids have been solid, but they won’t be enough to land them in one of the top two spots in the district. 4. WO-S- It has been a rough go of it as of late for the Mustangs, after starting off the season well. WO-S is just now getting all of its players back from basketball, and it remains to be seen how much they will help the team. Other than LHP Eric Sparks, the Stangs don’t really have any other consistent pitchers. It still would not surprise us to see the Mustangs jump into the top three. 5. Orangefield- Other than a convincing win over 4a Livingston in the Jasper Tournament, the Bobcats haven’t been impressive. They do have some kids that can hit the ball well, which should give them a slim chance at making the playoffs this year. 6. Anahuac- Haven’t heard much about them, which probably isn’t a good thing.

Travis Reagan from Jasper is good...been injured for a while, but will make some noise when he comes back
-
I watched a kid from Silsbee at the Jasper tournament pitch against LCM...His name was Josh Skinner I believe...Left Handed, looked to be about 6'3 or 6'4....Silsbee coach told me he threw 84 this summer....He was actually doing pretty well against LCM until his team started making some errors
-
BH is undefeated, but who have they played???...I still dont see them as a top 5 team yet

Hamshire-Fannett @Liberty Tournament

1. LCM- (12-4) Well where do you start with this team? Everything is clicking at the right time. The Bears have played a very competitive schedule and have faired well. They have a great pitching staff with tons of depth, led by Clayton Ehlert (possibly the area’s best all around player). There are no weak spots in the lineup; everyone can hit. They have a big group of seniors who are great leaders that expect to win. Should be a real contender for a state championship this year and take the district crown away from Nederland. 2. Nederland- (7-5) The Bulldogs, who went 12-0 in district play last year, should give LCM a run for there money in 20-4a. There are those that see them as the favorite in the district. Ned has played a brutal pre-district schedule, and is coming into district a battle-tested team. They did hang with 5a powerhouse The Woodlands earlier in the year, and 10 run ruled #1 3a team Bridge City. Pitcher Matison Smith, outfielder Micah Mosley, and second baseman Chris Laird will all have to step up to defeat the Battlin Bears and defend their 20-4a crown. 3. PNG- (3-10) The Indians have had a rough go of it this year. They have played an extremely tough schedule, but in all honesty, it’s not looking good for PNG at this point as far as winning 20-4a. They should be getting Preseason All Southeast Texas Team catcher Blake Buchanan back for the start of district, which will definitely help their lineup both offensively and defensively. The NDNs still have one of the best pitchers in the area, Rice Signee Zach Harwood, as their ace, but will need help from the other guys on the staff in order to compete for a district title. Nevertheless, we still see the usual big three teams going to the playoffs from 20-4a. 4. Vidor- (7-6) Is this the year a team other than the big three will make it out of 20-4a and into the playoffs? Many believe it is, but we don’t see it that way. The Pirates have had some bright points this season, but haven’t played a schedule that even remotely compares to that of LCM, Nederland, or PNG. No offense to Orangefield, but how is playing in the OF Tournament compare to playing in a Brenham, Woodlands, or Lufkin Tourney. Not much comparison there. With that said, PNG could slip up and let Vidor into the playoffs, but we just don’t see it happening this year. 5. Ozen- (6-7) While the program has come a long way in the last few years, the Panthers have been dealt some bad cards having to play in 20-4a. Sophomore DD Lott has been impressive this year, but he alone won’t be enough for Ozen to make the playoffs. 6. Lumberton- (4-6) The Raiders have not done so well this year, even while playing a weak schedule. Lumberton will come out and play hard as they always do, but it won’t be enough to land them a playoff spot in 20-4a 7. Central- (1-5) What can we say? Central just isn’t a baseball school. The top 3 teams in this district are just on a different level than they are.
