NOT SO FAST! I think he was listing Brenham futures. Nederland will be very good through this Soph class. Seay will be a very good QB and they return Wash, Malveaux, Brown etc nxt year. I agree after soph class it gets a little dry (#44 on fresh team is a load). PNG freshman are very talented. Adam Morse is legit at QB. Giblin at LB and several good WRs (#4 and #15) including Cropper and some big aggressive linemen. Sophs include Walker, Peveto, Lane, Romero, Murdoch, Smith, Mayfield, Benoit, Halfin, Hughes and Sparks. Lots of good headsy football players that will make impacts next year.
I'm also hearing a lot of good things about our 8th graders this year. If all goes well, next year will be good, the year after that will be better and the year after that will be one to remember.

2014 alignment predictions?
PN-G bamatex replied to bigsoftballfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If I read it correctly, the numbers won't change a bit (although I think they should). So if the districts change at all, what are now 4A schools with enrollments that stay the same between now and then will only go into other districts with other schools that are currently 4A. -
What ever happened to raideroldtimer?

This goes in effect for 2014 alignment Retweeted by Texas HS Football
That is not all they approved. First, about the 6A. All it really does is change the name of each classification except for 1A DII. Starting in 2014, what we now know as 5A will be called 6A, 4A will be 5A, 3A will be 4A, 2A will be 3A, 1A DI will be 2A and 1A DII will be just 1A. Second, UIL did pass to add a 4th team to playoffs in all team sports in 3A and 2A starting next season. Also, UIL passed referendum for 3A supts. to vote on making the current 3A football districts to DI and DII districts like 2A and 1A. If passed by supts, this will start next season as well. UIL has voted to eliminate 1 tourney from basketball, baseball and softball. Starting next season a team can only play 2 tourneys and not 3.
You mean we finally get a 6A classification and it won't fix the discrepancy in enrollment numbers and talent pools we've been dealing with in the 4A and 5A playoffs? Please tell me this is a back-door way of making a real 6A classification over time.
That's what making DI and DII took care of. In order to do what you are asking, you would make 6A a mega classification with very few schools. Travel for district games would be terrible and completely ridiculous in some cases.
It didn't fix anything for us. In 2010, PN-G, a middle-of-the-pack 4A school, faced a "Division II" Manvel team that for all intensive purposes had 5A enrollment numbers. I can't tell you how many times we've competed with borderline 5A schools like Friendswood and Pearland Dawson with about 600 more kids, more talent and more money in UIL or band or whatever sport. Divisions haven't solved anything. And I realize a division is an entirely different concept at the 1A and 2A levels (and 3A after next year). But for them, they've often times been even worse. WOSgrad just brought up Deweyville and Anderson-Shiro. If you ask me, Katy has a lot more money to spend on travel costs than they do.

Went to the Ozen - LCM game today and i'll bet there wasn't 400 people there from Ozen and just a few more for LCM, we're spoiled in Mid County with 2 great communities that love their football and support them as much as possible. I was surprised to see so few fans for a 20-4a matchup with the playoffs on the line. I would be surprised if there was more than 1000 total fans at this game and we ( midcounty ) play in front of packed houses on a regular basis, not everyone gets this kind of support.
This is exactly right. I know I tout PN-G's community support a lot (and I still think we're king in that department ;D), but in reality, it's not just us - it's really the entire area. The schools in Southeast Texas, from 1A through 5A, really enjoy more support and fan attendance than most schools anywhere. I can remember being at the DCTF classic in San Antonio and seeing 5A schools play that brought maybe a few hundred fans. Our opponent, Gregory-Portland, only had about a hundred miles to travel to get to the Alamodome, yet they might have had 300 fans in the stands at their peak compared to more than 6,500 that made the 350 mile drive to sit on the PN-G side. High schools here in Alabama have a similar problem. Friends who attended 6A schools in Birmingham with 2,000 or more students will bring up high school football from time to time, and they consider two hundred fans to be a good turnout. I start talking about regular season games like MCM or the Vidor game with 13,000 fans packed into Indian Stadium or 11,000 at Bulldog Stadium or 10,000 at Croak Field or playoff games with 39,000 fans at the Astrodome and their eyes get about as wide as dinner plates. They always thought King of the Hill and Friday Night Lights were exaggerations. There are 5A schools here in Tuscaloosa with stadiums that look about the size of Buna's, and they don't always fill them. We've got it lucky when it comes to high school football.
my sister in law lives in muskogee, ok. she was down last year for the vidor/angleton playoff game. i asked when the last time she went to a highschool game was and she said every game for the past two years because her daughters cheerlead for pee-wees and they let them on the field during the game. as asked if they had big crowds and she said 3-4 hundred and thinking that was alot. she was blown away at the packed house in Galena Park that night. she thought i was kidding when i said hundreds, we have thousands.
I was at that Vidor-Angleton game as well, and I remember expecting Angleton to have a pretty good showing. The Vidor crowd easily had 1,500 more fans than they did. The Vidor side was packed.
Fascinating. Even when accepting that this just isn't your year, the arrogance and sense of superiority comes oozing through based on what could occur if you were only winning. I guess the irony and duplicity of that totally escaped you. I would agree with you on one point, this year wasn't very fun. MCM is definitely better when both teams are competitive and relevant.
Not what could occur my friend, what has occurred. You may call that 'arrogance' or 'superiority,' but I call it being aware of what you've done and what you're capable of doing again.
It's less about any statements about fair weather fans and more about your constant chest beating and cheer leading about the superiority and relative beatification of your fan base. Bottom line is your fans are fickle in the down years - just like every other school.
Right. ::) I was around in 1999 and I was around in 2008. I've seen the PN-G fanbase at its best and at its worst. I know firsthand - far better than some Nederland fan who sees us once a year from across the field and might catch a playoff game or two every now and then - exactly how many of our fans are fair-weather fans and exactly how many will stay there until the very end, whether it be a bitter one or a happy one. I've stated here repeatedly that we have plenty of fair-weather fans, just like every other team. I also know that we have many die-hard Indian fans as well who will show up win or lose. And when we are winning, we will put up totals - fair-weather and die-hard - very few schools can even hope to match. I know some (not all) Ned fans are desperate to find something they can hold over PN-G's head since there isn't much crow to dish out because so few PN-G fans were predicting a PN-G win to begin with, but I'm afraid this just isn't going to cut it. This is a point nobody from PN-G contends against - in fact, it's one that we agreed with days ago. I'm sorry you're not getting the rush you expected out of your win, but beating a dead horse won't help you any.
png bamakid....cmon, man, are you frustrated?????? really? i couldn't even quote of all the "stuff" you wrote....its about high school football, doesn't Alabama have a game today? Go watch that and take a break. The png visitors stands have been an "I"diotic design and i never understood why they didnt "I"mprove them when they spent millions on "I"mprovements at their stadium. It shows a lack of thought and planning (doesn't surprise me though). For teams outside of our area, kinda embarassing to have a "world class stadium" with 1/2 askk visitor stands. No much to brag about when visiting fans are on lock down during a game. Fire hazard, stupid, embarassing. And they were crying tears over the turf, I guess they needed to have something better for us to wipe our ......on. ;D ;D
Yes, Alabama has a game today. The Tennessee game (a rivlary known as the Third Saturday in October), and it's at 6. I would be watching LSU at A&M right now, but the cable's out and I'm waiting for someone to fix it. In any case, no, I am not frustrated. Hard to get frustrated over an internet site, and that post only took about ten minutes to write. I am a little tired of all the people trying to kick PN-G when it's down, but as I said, some people are desperate to find anything they can to attack PN-G with. Man, it's hard being popular. ;D You can pretty much thank Ike for the condition of the visitors' stands. The original plans for the stadium included their replacement. Unfortunately, as you know, Ike hit while the stadium was still under construction and construction was already underway at the middle schools and high school. Just as they have after every other hurricane, prices went up, and the district had to cut about a million dollars out of the stadium project to keep the other projects on track. The result was a smaller pressbox, less amenities on the home side and the same stands on the visitors' side.
This was taken 45 minutes before kickoff. When Nederland headed for the locker room there was still 25-30 minutes left before game time. Right after that they showed that video the student body and faculty made. That was pretty impressive! 8)
No it was not. The time on this picture on Facebook is 7:01 and I was in the PN-G band for four years. We never went in 45 minutes before kickoff.
Most fan bases will acknowledge that, but some on that side of Mid County believe they are above that happening at their school. While you're searching for the fountain of youth, here are a few gems:
Were you surprised? Not me. Now I am just one family. I do know there are tons of people who only go to games to be seen or to say they went to the game. We also have bandwagon fans just like every other school they jump on the band wagon when we are winning and tear down when they are having a bad year. I saw it last night at the game. The stands were no where near as full as they would have been if we were winning more games this rear. All I can say is that if you weren't at the game last night you missed a good show. I will continue to go to watch my NDNS weather they win or lose. I will cheer them on every Friday night. I can't wait for MCM it is normally the BEST game of the season. Good Luck NDNS.

I agree with your statement; PN-G, just like every other fan base, is going to find out who's a fairweather fan and who's not during bad years.
We know, just as well as every other fan of every other team, high school or otherwise, out there, that our school has fairweather fans. Everyone has them, and no PN-G fan will tell you any different. We also know that we are fortunate enough to have more truly loyal fans than most schools have fans at all. We have more season ticket holders than most schools have seats in their stadium. And we have more attendance records than some schools in this area have playoff games. The bottom line is that any way you try to present this, PN-G has been, is and always will be known for the fan base it brings that puts even many colleges to shame, and the fact that this subject keeps being brought up in thread after thread by fans of other schools proves, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that this fact deeply, deeply bothers some people who I guess just don't have anything better to worry about.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the home side of NDN stadium holds aorund 6,000 and the visitor side holds around 4,000, somebody correct me if I am wrong here.
Not quite. The PN-G home side seats 8,000 fans (5,000 of which are season ticket holders). The visitors' side seats 5,000.

PN-G visitor side is LARGER than Nederlands.
I'm sorry but there is no way PNG's visitor side is bigger than Nederland's visitor side. Nederland's is just slightly smaller than their home side
That's correct, but the difference isn't as large as you may think. As I said, PN-G's visitors' stands hold 5,000 fans. Both the home side and visitors' side in Nederland hold 5,500 fans.

Some posters will find anything they can to take shots at PN-G with. They will try and say our crowd isn't the biggest in the area, when they know it is and we have consistently produced the sheer volume of fans to prove it. They'll try and say we don't have as much pride as we used to or that our traditions aren't 'all that,' when our pride and tradition are what put our school on display in more prominent fashion than any other school in the state at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin just last year. They'll try and say our rivalry isn't as big as it once was, when in fact that rivalry is consistently ranked among the fiercest in the state by a number of statewide, sports-oriented organizations, Dave Campbell, Legacy Sports and this very site among them. I normally take such petty offenses for what they are - products of a deep, sub-conscious inferiority complex that develops when you are consistently out-numbered by PN-G fans on your own field every other year, when you realize you know Cherokee better than your own school's fight song, and when you realize that your own school has never and likely will never have the prominence or recognition that PN-G has enjoyed for quite some time - and choose not to indulge them, but rather just toss a few light-hearted jabs back and continue on the practice of 'smack talk' this board is so popular for. And so, on that note, it really doesn't surprise me when some fan of some other school again tries to knock PN-G with a picture taken late in the fourth quarter of a half-empty stadium nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand schools couldn't fill to begin with, and it, too, doesn't surprise me that other fans of whatever school try and join in with 'walk the walk' and 'they're only there when they're winning' and all these other attempts at insults that reflect their ever-flowing originality, abundant creativity, level of intelligence and general wit. But setting such pleasantries aside for the moment in the interests of fairness, if any real discussion (emphasis on the word 'real') on this subject is to take place, then we must consider all the facts, and so, I offer into the record this picture of Nederland's crowd, taken just before the game by a Nederland graduate and posted on Facebook: [IMG][Hidden Content]] At least we filled our (larger) stands at some point.

Now if they are not your season tickets then there is nothing they can do. Good Luck and I hope this helps you out.
