1. Yeah. It's been in the PA News. The turf company said it had offered to come by and evaluate the field, but that PN-GISD never got back to them about a time. Don't know if that's true or not and honestly kind of doubt it is. This has been an ongoing issue. There were complaints about the wear on the turf within a year of its installation. I heard someone say that it wasn't designed to stand up to the extreme weather conditions of SETX, but I don't remember who said it and I honestly don't believe that. We'll see what comes of it. Hopefully the result will be a new field.
 2.
If anyone can remember that far back... the Crosby v. PNG game was an absolute thriller this year, and the Dayton Crosby game was decided literally on the last play.
I listened to the radio broadcast of that game and it sure sounded like one.
 3. Read something on Facebook about the PN-G girls team in an Austin-area tournament. Anyone know any details?
 4.
Xaphoon, you don't even need to have played in high school.  basically, anyone who graduated from the school is eligible to play.  But, to keep it a good game, they would like you to at least play something you played in high school.  I mean, they don't exactly want 10 guys who played line to say they want to play quarterback :-* Check out the new link at www.AlumniMidCountyMadness.com
So, if that's the case, we could just go find all the players that graduated last year and put them on the field against the old guys? ;D
 5. I only saw three high school games this year (Vidor @ PN-G, Ned @ PN-G, & Vidor vs. Angleton). The most competitive game I saw was Mid-County Madness, but that's normally the case. The game I saw where my team performed the best was Vidor @ PN-G. PN-G was up 22-0 until the fourth quarter. We capitalized on Vidor's mistakes early on and they didn't show any fire after that until late in the game. PN-G dominated until Vidor finally changed things up on offense.
 6. Accidentally posted a link in the wrong forum.
 7.
It's none of my business but that's never stopped me before  :D but this sounds like a guaranteed orthopedic bonanza! ::)
To be a doctor in Mid-County right now.... ;D How about an alumni band? Or possibly a car with a really big stereo and a recording of Cherokee? ;D
 8. Are the quarters five minutes long? Because that's about as long as each string will last.... ;D
 9. Nederland wasn't a state finalist that year. Nederland lost 7-6 to Bay City (the eventual state champion) in the state semifinal. The last time the Bulldogs played in a state championship was 1961.
Seems like he sees that the talent pool at Friendswood was a little shabby and wanted to get away while he was still a high commodity.  Pretty smart move.  He wants to avoid consecutive subpar seasons, so he'll take just one.
That or he knows Friendswood is about to go 5A and get a serious wake-up call in more than just football.
 10. Last I heard, it's out of commission because the sprinkler system is faulty and the Houston fire marshal won't pass it.
 11.

Thanks is there any loss of eligibility if my child is in sports?
UIL could still rule that the move is for athletic reasons. Your child may not be eligible for varsity sports. Will just depend on their ruling.
Is that still needed if you transfer to a school in a different classification or UIL district?
 12. The school district you want to move your kid to has the right to deny him access. However, if it grants access, it will receive the same amount of state funding for the child as any other district (I believe that rate is $55 per day present at school).
 13. With all the money in the Houston area, I think they should renovate it and use it as a playoff venue for baseball and football. Heck, they might be able to add a basketball capability as well. They'd have high schools from all over Southeast and Central Texas coming to play in it. That would be the place to play, plus it leave's Reliant for the college and professional teams.
 14.
Do you ever see a day on the horizon where Port Neches Groves and Nederland school districts consolidate to form one School District with one High School?
No. I'll admit, if the two districts were forced to consolidate with another district, they'd pick each other over any other school. But even if the districts consolidated into PN-G-N or N-PN-G or PG(N^2) or MJCCISD or whatever, there wouldn't be that many changes. There would still be a Port Neches-Groves High School and a Nederland High School, Port Neches and Groves kids would still go to PN-G and Nederland kids would still go to Nederland, there would still be Bulldogs and Indians, there would still be an Indian Stadium and a Bulldog Stadium, the train tracks would still exist, and most importantly, Mid-County Madness would continue as it always has. The most that might happen is some consolidation of elementary and middle schools, but only on their respective sides of the tracks. But there's no reason to even think about that, because it'll only happen forty years down the road over several thousand dead bodies. There would be a massive crowd of people in purple t-shirts (and probably a band playing Cherokee) on the capitol building's lawn before that happened. I do have one question, though. If that happened, would the consolidated district still have to make these stupid equity transfers? If so, would it still be $14 Million a year? They take it from us because so much of our tax base is industrial, but if we consolidated with Nederland, that would be a much smaller portion of the district's taxable assets.
 15.
Where did he play high skewl? Congrads to he and Lamar.
PN-G. He's been one of our best players the last two seasons.
 16.
Texas stadium served as home field for two Dallas area high schools in 1979.....Plano and Highland Park. I'm sure PNG traveled well as usual, but the majority of that crowd didn't have to travel much at all. Texas stadium was an engineering failure, but so was the leaning tower of Pisa.
I don't know about the majority. I've heard two versions of this story. One is a couple of eyewitness accounts that say both sides had about 25,000 and the other was a bunch of eyewitness accounts and an old news article scanned in somewhere that said PN-G brought about 30,000-32,000 fans and Plano brought 18,000-20,000. I wasn't there, so I don't know for sure, but I do know as fact that there were 34,000 fans on the PN-G side of the Astrodome and 25,000 on our side of Kyle Field in 1999, and that there was a fleet of charter busses en route to Dallas in 1977, so I've always felt the latter was closer to the truth (not that I'm biased or anything :D). Unfortunately, I've never found a color photo of the crowd or any photo of the entire stadium from that game so as far as I know, there's no objective way to tell for sure.
 17. In 4A, I think a lot of it has to do with the Houston-area teams we face in the third round. LaMarque, Angleton and Manvel have all proven the strength of their programs and Dawson and Friendswood are both, what, less than a fifty students from 5A status? Having Brenham in Region III doesn't help. As much as I hate to say it, hurricanes may have something to do with it as well. A lot of people left the area in '05 and again in '08. The kids who are in high school now were in middle and elementary school back then. In the ten years prior to Rita, how many SETX teams made it to state championships? PN-G went in '99, WO-S went in '00 and Nederland fell to Bay City (7-6, maybe?) a round short of the big game in either '00 or '01. And it's not just football. PN-G sent teams to the state tournament in baseball in '00 and '05, and we fielded softball teams at the state tournament in '01 and '04. I know WO-S sent the track team to the state tournament several times in the '00-'05 range (although I think they've been back once or twice since). Heck, it's not even just sports. How many times did PN-G and LC-M send their bands to the state marching competitions between '95 and '05? How many times have they been back since? Our schools used to be prominent in a lot of things. In many ways, they still are. They just aren't as strong as they used to be.
 18.
I want to hear award speeches...... ;D
So I've gotta come up with an acceptance speech, huh? Me: I wanna thank God, and my family, and my friends, and the PN-G faithful.... Kanye West: [interrupting] I'm gonna let you finish and all, but the smoking baby had some of the best posts of all time. ;D
 19.

Scooter is on the run. He's wanted in Mont Belvieu. Those ants are very angry with him.
I hear there is a posse from Kirbyville and West Brooke also out on his trail too.  The last word I had he was living in a barn and cleaning the toilets of some Coach named Shipley around Brownwood?  8)
So he's taking the "brown" out of "Brownwood"?
 20.

Great season Pirates! I expect we shall meet again possibly next year as you have an excellent team and coaching staff! I look forward to it! BTW, it's niether here nor there as they say, but the "tunnel" that you guys run out of at the start of each half (don't know the technical name for it) is one of the coolest, & most intimidating I have seen all year! Looks eeeeevil. ;D GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR PIRATES!!!!
It's pretty cool, huh?  We love it!!  When the smoke starts and the boys run out of it and in to the smoke it is AWESOME!!  My kids LOVE it!!  I work with somebody from PNG and they said the same thing, it looks evil and creepy!
Vidor's tunnel is pretty cool. The Vidor crowd also impressed me at this game. I wish PN-G's crowd would get that into the game.
 21. The best team that underachieved? The 2009 PN-G Indians. Don't take it the wrong way; I'm not disappointed in them in the slightest. PN-G lost a student two days before the loss to eventual state finalist Brenham and I don't blame those boys in the slightest for the lack of effort and heart they showed in the first half - it was obvious that their minds were elsewhere and there's nothing wrong with that given the circumstances. I still think they have a lot to be proud of in the way they came out and almost made a comeback from a 20-0 Brenham lead at halftime (final score was 27-21 Brenham). I've often wondered what Coach Faircloth said to them during halftime to bring them back into the game - it must've been one heck of a speech. The most disappointing season, however, has to be the 2008 season. We won our first three games just to lose the last six (the third game of the season, PN-G @ Texas City, was cancelled due to Hurricane Ike). But I guess it all worked out. Without the 3-6 2008 season, we would have had no Brandon Faircloth and no 10-0 2009 season.
 22.

::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Why the eye roll??
It's rare that I accuse someone of having no class and no respect. Making a post that ignores and belittles the sincerity and dignified tone of a player trying to honor a fallen teammate warrants such an accusation. Someone is either doing some serious trolling or is just that clueless.
