PNG struggled against Vidor who is a good football team but Vidor doesnt have the defense BH has.PNG is going to have to score more than 2 Tds to win and only Dayton has done that this year,as a matter of fact no team has even scored 2 Td's against them this year except Dayton.BH will score at least 3 Tds and controll the tempo of the game.Good luck to all.   Barbers Hill 24 PNG 10
I agree that a PN-G/BH game would be a tough one and that BH is obviously favored because of their record (although I would personally still pick PN-G), but PN-G didn't "struggle" with Vidor. We were up 22-0 at the end of the third quarter. Vidor changed offensive schemes and we took too long to adjust. Now, had Vidor been mixing things up all along, I'd agree that that game would have been a struggle. Vidor's last minute almost-comeback proves that they had the potential. They just stuck with a hard-nosed running offense for three quarters that we had figured out and shut down (with help from some penalties).
To be honest Vidor didn't change offensive schemes. The only we did was get momentum and brought a new qb in and a new fullback in. And we also ran a few plays that we hadn't run yet. That's it. Not taking anything away from PNG. And as for shutting down our offense if you really did shut it down why did Vidor have more yards and first downs than yall?  ::)  8)
Per PhatMack's stats, Vidor had 109 passing yards in the game. Vidor didn't put a single WR into the game until the fourth quarter, which came with a back-up QB, a good arm and a total shift in play-calling. Every one of those 109 yards was put up with six completions in the fourth quarter. So yes, you did have a shift in momentum, but it came as a result of a major shift on offense and a PN-G defense that was uncharacteristically slow to adjust. And yes, we had you shut down until the fourth quarter. Vidor trailed PN-G in nearly every respect going into the last quarter of the game. We took our foot off the gas and Vidor put the pedal to the metal to almost make a comeback and post some impressive stats. I'll say it again: if Vidor had been mixing things up to begin with, the outcome of this game may have been very different. Personally, I think it would be a good idea for Vidor to put in the back-up QB more often and throw the ball around a little more against Livingston and in the playoffs, but that's just me and I'm not a coach.
 3. I had originally picked Livingston to win this one, but I'm going with Vidor in a close one now that Mays is out. I hope Matthews gives that back-up QB more chances to throw the ball.
 4. I thought we would play Dayton in the first round if Vidor beats Livingston and we beat Central this week. ???
You're right. It's not the poster school. To most, the poster school is Odessa-Permian... despite PN-G bringing more fans to and beating them in the 1975 state championship. Nonetheless, PN-G still on the forefront of Texas high schools. If you don't believe me, take a trip to Austin and tour the Bob Bullock museum.

 10. PN-G will always have haters for a number of reasons. Yes, we have posters and fans in general who take things way too far. Yes, we probably have more of them than anyone else. But with that said, we have more fans than everyone else. It follows that we have more of each type of fan since we have more fans altogether. By the same token, fans of other teams that aren't exactly classy love to focus on PN-G more than any other school. Why? Everybody loves to pick on the big guy. PN-G has more name-recognition, more fans and more influence than any other school out there, as well as more success than most. There aren't many schools that can lay claim to the legacy PN-G has established and there are none that can claim the community support PN-G has, has had and will continue to have in the future. There's a reason we have the national record for fan attendance at a high school football game and there's a reason that PN-G is almost feared in almost every field of high school competition. Heck, there's a reason most fans of other teams know our fight song better than their own. Those rabid fans of other schools (not all fans of other schools) hate that fact more than anything else and they key in on that. Some will blow small, isolated incidents way out of proportion to make PN-G look bad, some will stretch things to try and blame PN-G for this, that and the other, and some will just spew unadulterated, nonsensical hatred. As far as I'm concerned, it just means we're doing something right and that we're still good ol' PN-G. For those two reasons, you tend to get a more... colorful, for lack of a better word, exchange of posts and "trash talk" in threads relating to PN-G than in others.

 12. Alright, the dust is settled and now it's time to give some props to both teams. I have got to hand it to Vidor. I walked into this game thinking Vidor was overrated and that PN-G was going to prove it. Vidor's defense seemed almost too motivated in the first quarter; they kept having off sides and pass interference penalties, and it's obvious that they weren't controlling themselves very well. In the second quarter, it looked like Mathews had gotten them to calm down and there weren't as many penalties, but Vidor started giving up long runs and even a two point conversion. After the half, Vidor looked better, but they came out of the inflatable skull looking flat and demoralized. At that point, I was starting to think the game was over, and another Indian touchdown along with a goose egg on Vidor's side of the board at the end of the third affirmed that notion. Through the third quarter, it was looking like I was right and Vidor really was overrated. The fourth quarter proved me wrong. When Vidor switched quarterbacks and finally started having success in the air, I started getting worried. It was obvious that the momentum was shifting and the Pirates had some wind in their sails (no pun intended). When the Pirates brought in that two point conversion to make the score 22-15, I just about had a heart attack and I'm pretty sure I did have one on that last personal foul penalty against the Indians. Our defense seemed to be crumbling in frustration towards the end of the game, and for a moment I thought I'd be eating crow with this post. Vidor has the ability to score quickly and take advantage of what defenses give them when they knuckle down and focus. No team should overlook them. Good luck Pirates and go beat Livingston. The Indians had a great game for the first three quarters. I don't think anyone expected to be up 15-0 at the half and 22-0 at the end of the third. That's a real testament to the improvements our defense has made since last year. After the Ozen, LC-M and Vidor games, I think it's obvious at this point that the Indian defense is once again a force to be reckoned with in District 20-4A, providing that they can play consistently. Now go wrap up district and beat Central. I want to catch another PN-G game at some point this year and I won't be home again until Thanksgiving. Scalp 'em!

Good luck the rest of the way.
Well at least there is ONE person East of the Trinity that has some sense.  Did you hear that fool last night on the internet talking about Nederland should be #1?  I almost poured my grey poupon all over my food.  ;)  Here are the facts about 20-4A and 19-4A: 20-4A 1. Nederland = Good Defense, avergae offense, good coaching 2. PNG = Good offense, poor defense, great coaching 3. Livingston = Good QB.  Poor defense, less than average offense, tons of injuries. Average at best coaching. 4. Vidor = Good defense, good offense, fair coaching, play hard every down. 5. Ozen - Bad offense, Bad defense, Bad Coaching.  Athletic RB.  Not a good team. Here is the summary for the slow learners.  * Nederland is a sound team.  Team being the most important part of that.  BH has already beat them and both teams are playing better now than then. This would be a good game, but BH can run their offense around Nederland's strength, which is their D-Line. BH's defense is better against the pass than Nederland. BH plays almost all spread teams with good QB's, so they get tested. * Livingston is so injury striken they may not make the playoffs and if they do they will NEVER beat any of the 19-4A teams.  I have seen them play and those they might face.  No comparison at this point between Livingston and 19-4A top 6 teams. * PNG has already been beatin by Crosby and has a poor defense.  With Doty last year PNG barely beat BH, with BH's back-up QB playing the full game.  BH this year has a much better offense and much better defense.  No chance of PNG winning this game or even coming close. Ozen - Not even worth discussing.  They have zero chance against any 19-4A team.    *Vidor - Vidor is a fair offensive and defensive team.  Lumberton almost beat them and they have not won a game.  Ozen almost beat them and I have already described just how bad they are.  Fact is, Vidor has never beat BH and won't this year should they play. Vidor does poorly against speed team (and don't say Central because they suck).  All of the teams that Vidor would face in 19-4A have speed (Crosby, GCM, Dayton) and Vidor won't match up again. All that means is Nederland will have to play good defense to beat whomever they face to win.  None of the other options have any chance.
PN-G's defense has improved greatly since playing Crosby. I think Cox and Arnaud are finding a rhythm (based on what I can tell from 530 miles away) and the defense is reflecting that. Ozen's the kind of team that is really two teams: a good one and a bad one. They're either completely into the game and firing on all cylinders or they come in flat and stay that way. The final score really depends on which Ozen team shows up. Other than that, I mostly agree with what you said.

Your defense is giving up over 250 yards rushing a game which is what we do. We run the ball, your offense stays on the sidelines. We'll see who has the best athletes. Do the math.
