You may be thinking of their 1989 season when they went 10-0. They were ranked #1 in the state, and lost in the 1st round. That's the same yr PNG went to the Quarter finals and lost to a5m Cons. In the Dome.
PN-G's one regular season loss that year was to WO-S. And 1989 wasn't the only season where that was the case.
The notion that the stimulus failed has hardened into Republican orthodoxy, but it doesn't hold up. A study released last week by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirmed that as of June, between 1 million and 2.9 million people are working who wouldn't otherwise have been, thanks to the stimulus. That study wasn't an outlier. Several others came to similar conclusions, including one by the economists Alan Blinder and Mark Zandi. As Jared Bernstein notes, the analysis by Blinder and Zandi found that the stimulus was responsible for roughly 2.7 million jobs and increased the GDP in 2010 by a healthy 3.4 percent. But a payroll tax cut has been in effect since the start of the year, and as Bruce Bartlett, who served as a Treasury official in President George H.W. Bush's administration, wrote this week, "There is no evidence that the lower payroll tax has done much of anything to stimulate either spending or hiring." The Obama administration has proposed extending the cut into next year. Republicans oppose the idea. The Republicans only wont the tax cut for the top 1% not for the working class.
Source? 6.
Could be a blessing for Obama if Perry wins the nomination. Could be the added fuel needed to help the President win in 2021 ;)
Dove, this election's going to be based on the economy. Perry, Romney and almost any other Republican win in that area hands down. By the way, I looked up Lichtman. His analysis is... interesting. [Hidden Content] To be honest, I don't see how he can give points the way he did. He says there is no serious challenger for the nomination of the incumbent party. I agree with him there, but I wouldn't throw that point in Obama's favor; many democrats that showed support for Obama in the '08 primaries have said that they should have gone with Hillary, so I wouldn't be so quick to give him a point for that (not saying that he doesn't clearly have the nomination, just that there's some unrest in his party). I also think his incumbency is going to work against him as it traditionally has in a poor economic climate, so I wouldn't give Obama that point, either. Lichtman's "undecided" point, the influence of the economic conditions, is one I would put solidly in the Republicans' corner, whether Perry or Romney wins the nomination (both have better job creation records than Obama). I also think the major policy changes will work against Obama, so there's another point deduction. As for social unrest... well, I have mixed feelings, but I'll be fair and leave that point in Obama's corner. As far as foreign affairs failures, while there's been no outright failure, relations with Israel have all but collapsed, China is not very happy with American spending (which, like it or not, is on the Democrats) and our relations with Russia were very shaky for the first year and a half of Obama's term (they still aren't great) - that's another point deduction, in my mind. The last two (charisma of incumbent and challenger) should be switched in my mind. Perry and Obama are both charismatic, and Romney isn't exactly boring. So, my score, based on this criteria, is 5-4-4 with Obama in the lead, but not by much. With each passing day, Obama's approval rating drops and the Republicans gain momentum. Given a year, I think the pick for the 2013-2017 term is going to clearly be a Republican (I'm thinking Perry, personally), if it isn't already (which is a bit of a stretch).

 10.
I knew there was a reason many of yall seemed worried and just throwing all kinds of road-blocks to halt change ;D Good news for the party for the people; the Obama camp: "a different model, from American University professor Allan Lichtman, "whose election formula has correctly called every president since Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election," says Obama is a shoo-in."  :o
Source?

 20. I saw somewhere that PN-G won the first two games.
 21. Congrats! Gragg and his wife are both PN-G grads and live here in Port Neches. I'm sure he'll do fine (although I might be a little biased because I go to church with him ;D).
 22.
Very, very cool !! Congrats PNG on being honored. Yall have a great football tradition. I love my Hull-Daisetta Bobcat tradition, but I have come to see PNG has an awesome tradition also. So cool to see. I will bring my 11 year old son to watch a PNG game this season. Can't wait !! I wonder if Hull-Daisetta was mentioned at the museum? I grew up hearing about the great traditions at PNG, WOS, Newton and Hull-Daisetta. So special.  :)
It's possible that H-D was mentioned. We were rushing to get through without getting caught with the camera, so I may have missed some things.
 23. As many of you know, the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin is currently featuring an exhibit called "Texas High School Football: More Than The Game." The exhibit features memorabilia, news articles, stories and interviews with fans of teams from all over Texas and is designed to teach museum-goers what high school football means to Texans and Texas communities. Well, we made it out to the museum Tuesday. Since cameras aren't allowed, I decided to sketch all of this from memory so the folks here at home could see it. ;) ;D Before I add the photos, I'd like to say that I made it a point to get everything there that was related to any Southeast Texas football team. Unfortunately, there were four things we missed because there was no way we could get the shots without getting caught by a museum employee. The first two were in the area immediately to the left of the entrance called "Bragging Rights," which is a diner set-up with a bunch of football posters and buttons you can press to hear fans of six different schools talk about their teams over the years. PN-G was one of the schools that had a recording, and the second item in that area was a 2009 Nederland poster on the wall (the only Nederland item in the exhibit). The third missed item was a plaque and TV screen about a quarter of the way into the exhibit that mentioned Mid-County Madness as the state's fiercest rivalry and several important events in the histories of Beaumont, Hebert, French, South Park, Forest Park, Charlton-Pollard and Ozen. The fourth item was another plaque across the hall from the TV screen that was part of the "Texas High School Football Timeline" and mentioned the attendance record PN-G set at the 1977 state championship. I basically left the exhibit slapping myself in the back of the head for missing these four things, but hopefully someone else will make the trip to Austin and get the missing shots. So, without further adieu, here's what we managed to get: We get there and what's the first thing we see? 2010-2011 PN-G Drum Major Seth Beaugh and the Indian Band on the cover of the exhibit's brochure. You can't tell it from the photo, but a close inspection of the brochure reveals that this shot of the band was taken at last year's PN-G game against Livingston at Indian Stadium. As a former PN-G band member, this was a very proud moment. ;D [IMG][Hidden Content]] When you leave the first section of the exhibit (which is the area where we missed all of those shots), you come into a section that talks about mascots. The centerpiece of this exhibit is Jimmy Girouard's Indian Spirit uniform from the 1964-1965 school year. [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] Standing in front of the uniform and its showcase and looking to your left, you'll find a picture of Mr. Girouard in full Indian Spirit dress dancing down what is today known as A-Hall at the high school, a picture of 2010-2011 Indian Spirit Brandon Provost dancing on the field in the Alamodome, and a plaque denoting the importance of the Indian mascot to PN-G, West Texas High School and El Paso Ysleta High School. [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] As you look at these displays, you'll notice something along the wall to your right that every PN-G fan everywhere should recognize: the letter, certificate and seal of the Cherokee Nation presented to our school in 1979. [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] As you move out of the mascot section and into the next section, you'll find an exhibit dedicated totally to spirit organizations (bands, cheerleading squads, drill teams, etc.). In this section, you'll find a PN-G Drum Majorette Headress on display and a station where six different songs can be played over the loud speakers. Wanna guess which PN-G crowd favorite was among those six songs? ;D This was another proud moment for a former Indian Band member. [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] The last section of the exhibit is a tribute to the fans, media and communities that have showcased high school football in Texas for decades. In this section, you'll find memorabilia, news articles, a television set programmed to play some famous plays from Texas high school football history, and a bookcase filled with books dedicated to some of the most famous teams in Texas. Among them, of course, was a copy of Dr. John Buck Ford's Down Trails of Victory: The Story of Port Neches-Groves High School Football. [IMG][Hidden Content]] In the same section of the exhibit, you'll find a plaque dedicated to long-time Texas high school football fan and Orangefield native Bennie Cotton: [IMG][Hidden Content]] ... and some Port Arthur Momentos: [IMG][Hidden Content]] [IMG][Hidden Content]] Folks, PN-G was the best represented of any school in our area, if not the state. Other schools were mentioned here and there, but PN-G was showcased for the entire state to see. I even met a fellow PN-G grad (c/o '63) that's lived in Austin since her UT days and still showed up wearing purple and white to take pictures of the exhibit and show her grandson what PN-G is all about. Most schools were lucky to have one item on display - some lucked out and got two - but PN-G had six separate items in the exhibit. If you get a chance to go to Austin and see it, go - it's worth every penny.
