It's questionable how PNG BandKid jumps on this board and Smitty disappears..hmmm... Use your laptop and desktop?   Definition of POSEUR : a person who pretends to be what he or she is not : an affected or insincere person. No one believes that you are a NEDERLAND supporter (of course, this is for smitty).  I can clearly identify people with a degree in BS.
Ok, bud, it was a joke. I'm not smitty. Granted, the joke got a little out of hand, but it was just a joke. And for the record, I don't have a college degree. I'm still in high school. My only point with the talk about the PN-G AP/LEAP programs was to counter your joke about the standard for higher education in Nederland. PN-G has a series of AP and LEAP classes that are taught by experienced teachers, many of whom have either served as college professors (one at LSU) or teach classes at Lamar now, thus allowing their classes to double as college classes thanks to co-enrollment with Lamar or the taking of the AP test, which in turn allows PN-G students who take them to reduce the amount of time needed to earn their college diploma. Nederland has several AP and LEAP courses as well, as do many other schools in the area.
If smitty really is a PN-G fan, then he probably possesses higher education. ;D
You're absolutely right!  In Nederland, we consider a higher education getting a College Diploma.
At PN-G, we consider higher education to be the attainment of a college diploma as well. It's just that, at PN-G, we have enough AP/LEAP programs to have our hands on a college diploma three years after graduation (or less, depending on the major). ;) That's what you get when your school has more AP/LEAP classes than any other school in the area. ;D
haha after you explain why Lumberton wont be in..... 1) PN-G needs no explanation, they have played closely, 2 teams better than most in 20-4a...they just have "it" they are the team everyone wants to beat, but few admit it 2) Lumberton can score all night long with the best of em, and defense is bending, but not breaking. Dont have to kill people, a W is a W. Once the injury Bug leaves town and Ltrain is full strength again, will be tough to beat. 3)LCM is scoring at will, D is suspect, but kind of irrelevant against the several inferior opponents in the district this year...(Ozen, Vidor, Central  ;) 4)Livingston or Ned, really dont know about either
LCM will not stop Ozen or Central! This district is wide open for the taking. Both Beaumont schools will be right in the thick of it. The only inferior thing is LCM's defense and Lumberton's their strength of schedule so far.
Hmm, Lumberton's strength of schedule huh. Let's see Jasper, I'll give you that one although historically they are slow out of the gate. Barbers Hill, didn't they spank Nederland last Friday? Oh, and before someone says we played them without some of their starters, that went both ways as we had a couple starters out and lost one during the game as well. Silsbee, picked to make the playoffs in their district, won district champ last year against the team that pounded Nederland the first week. Dude, nobody says that Ozen and Central didn't play two very tough games to start the season with, in fact Ozen is making people notice, but face it, Central got blown out of both of their games and Galveston couldn't hold on to a ball if you super glued it to them. Yeah this district is up for grabs, but it definitely isn't gonna be the same old status quo this year.
SPANKED ..... POUNDED ...... geeze, why so many references to NEDERLAND??????? ..... sounds to me someone is worried about what Nederland is gonna do this year for you to use us as a comparison so much.... imo. Oh btw, if you call losing by 7 points to BH a spanking, then it will be interesting to me to hear how future loses for the Raiders will be justified and defended. I bet spanked will be removed from the vocabulary choices won't it? I wish upon the Raiders a sucessful season, as I do for all the teams in our district.  I hope that our DOGS will be more sucessful!!!!
Dogs, the main point I was trying to make is that every time you turn around most people on here are constantly picking the teams who are currently 1-2 to take this district while implying that all 3 teams that are undefeated aren't very good, because of their defenses or their supposed strength of schedule, etc. The reason I pulled out the dogs is that WOS and Silsbee are in the same district and Silsbee actually won that district. It was only to make a point. People need to start realizing, that the traditional front runners aren't going to always take the playoff spots as this is probably one of the most evenly matched districts in the state if you ask me. I'll say it right now.............PNG might actually NOT make the playoffs, CENTRAL might actually NOT make the playoffs, oh Lord, someone dig a hole, cover me with honey and let the ants loose, I said it.  :o Here comes the fireworks.
First, I want to say that I think that LC-M and Lumberton are both going to be tough teams this year, that I look forward to watching them both play at Indian Stadium, and that, as of now, I feel confident that Lumberton will make the playoffs and that LC-M has a solid shot at them as well. PN-G's last two complete seasons had us at 3-0 in mid-September, just like LC-M and Lumberton are now. The first one ended with a final record of 3-6 and the second one ended with a record of 11-1. Based on this, I won't say that Lumberton and LC-M won't be successful, but I won't say that they will be, either. I also remember starting district play 1-2 in 2007 and ending up with a final record of 8-4, a playoff loss to an eventual state championship team, and a shared district title. A record isn't the only determining factor for predictions. The teams that were played while attaining that record need to be factored in as well. Although Lumberton and LC-M have both had good, solid pre-season schedules and now have records that speak for themselves, they didn't have the toughest pre-season schedule of any team in 20-4A. That distinction is PN-G's, and we are only three points out of 3-0, ourselves. It's not unreasonable to say that PN-G will be in the running for the district title again this year.
 7. Please don't let a few dirty e-mails speak for all of us. Most of us (myself included) appreciate the work you do in keeping this program going and the work that all the moderators and administrators do in maintaining this site. I can't believe that there are some out there who don't.
 8. PN-G LC-M or Lumberton (sounds like both teams can score; defense may decide the game) Nederland Ozen (in a close one)

 11.
Who really care's who had more fan's? Did we win the game? No! We didn't lose because they had more or less people in the stand's. This sound's like a 3rd grade pissing match. Move on!
Two of the things that this community cherishes above nearly everything else are its ability to put fans in the stands and its unmatched support of PN-G students. In other words, many people care.
 12. In my opinion, it'll all come down to the injuries. If Nederland can keep the team healthy and in fighting shape this year, then I have no problem saying that they have a good shot at a playoff spot. If they can't, then this may be a long year for the Bulldogs. Sorry, Dogs. I'm still pulling for you in every game except one... ;)
 13. 1. Port Neches-Groves Indians 2. Lumberton Raiders 3. Beaumont Central Jaguars 4. Nederland Bulldogs 5. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 6. Beaumont Ozen Panthers 7. Livingston Lions 8. Vidor Pirates These rankings are tentative. One of the few things I am sure of at this point is that this district will have several close games again this year. Granted, PN-G doesn't have the best record right now, but we are the only 20-4A team that has played a 4A team in the top 25 and we only lost that game by one point. We demolished Crosby, and we lost a poorly-officiated game (even the scouts for the other teams were talking about how biased the referees were) against a very athletic Texas City team accustomed to playing in a district full of juggernauts by two points on a field goal kicked with eight seconds left. I have no doubt that the Indians will be ready for district play. Lumberton and LC-M are doing very well this year. I expect both to be prominent teams in 20-4A in 2010 and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they both made the playoffs. Ozen is another team that is much improved and I could see them making the playoffs as well. Central seems to have finally found its rhythm. Galveston Ball is never the best or most disciplined team, but they are solid and make for a decent pre-season test. I think Central will improve from week to week and expect that they will be in the top four. Nederland is another team that I think will improve each week as long as they can avoid the injury bug. If they continue to take injury after injury, then I just don't see them making the playoffs. Neumann is crafty, but the coach can only do so much when half his team is in casts and splints. With Vidor, I just don't understand how a team that can come within a touchdown of defeating a traditional powerhouse like Texas High in double overtime can turn around and lose to Bridge City and Kirbyville by such a large margin. Don't get me wrong - Kirbyville and Bridge City are very good teams - but I expected Vidor to at least come close to winning. That close game against Texas High had me seriously reviewing my personal rankings. It looks like these two losses have me reviewing them again. I still don't know much about Livingston. The best standard I have for comparison is their game against Jasper. Although they did well in that game, Jasper isn't firing on all cylinders this year. I'm going to wait until their game here at Indian Stadium before I start throwing more credit their way.
 14. I'm going with the Bulldogs. They may not win by much, but I just don't see Vidor coming out on top in this one.

PNG faithful are getting less faithful (seems we were outnumbered by TC pretty good)
Really? From my perspective at halftime, it looked like PN-G had Texas City outnumbered by at least 500 fans, probably more. Did we pack the stands like we usually do? No. But we still outnumbered the Texas City fans on their own field, two hours from home.
In no way did we outnumber them.....their bleachers were bigger and probably 7/8's full....ours were smaller and probably 3/4 full......with a bunch of onlookers not from our area.  That right there will let you know who had more people.  The area people that just came to watch a game, sat on the less packed side....ours.
One again, I had an on-the-field view of both sides, and it looked to me like PN-G had the bigger crowd. Texas City might have filled a little less than two thirds of their stands. The only section of the visitor's side that wasn't completely full was the student section and it was a little more than halfway full. [Hidden Content] According to Texas Bob, Texas City's stadium seats 10,500 people. I would bet that the home side seats 6,000 and the visitor's side seats 4,500. So, just by eyeing it, my guess would be that the Texas City side had between 3,500 and 4,000 fans and the PN-G side had between 4,000 and 4,500 fans. Again, that's just my estimation based on what I could see, but that's my best guess.
Okay after a little internet digging I found the original writer of Cherokee, the correct name being Indian Suite: Cherokee was written in about 1938 by Ray Noble. Look it up.
I didn't need to. I have a copy sitting in my instrument case that credits Noble for the original work and then credits Giovale for some pretty big changes. Ours was written by our band director in 1957, and lyrics were added in 1959. The only part that can even be construed as copied is the middle of the song, and that's farfetched to say the least. The introduction and conclusion are both completely original, while the main segment has several added parts and a completely different set of dynamics as compared to the song the notes themselves were taken from. There's a whole different bass line, a different instrumental arrangement, a counter-melodic fanfare for the trumpets, and a pronounced percussion part, in addition to various other differences. In other words, there is only one Cherokee.
Not quite, unless the band director sold that song to various western movies as it has been used in several of the earlier ones. My guess is that maybe he wrote your lyrics to the song but that's all. BTW a youtube search turns up another high school WNHS, not sure where they are from but they use the same song in a slightly different variation. Whoops, just found another school from Indiana playing it, song get's around for sure. Another one namesd Moniteau High in Pennsylvania
With Moniteau, the dynamics and phrasing are completely different, the instrument arrangement is... odd, to say the least, and they have a very different counter-melody. The notes for the melody may be similar, but the song as a whole is different. I couldn't find the other two. These other high schools may have taken from the same original copy (which is an old jazz song), but the product is different. You could call ours a variation of another song, but it's a variation that's unique to our school. There are similar songs, but none are the same, unlike most other fight songs.

 23. Dayton is always a good team - there's no doubt about that - but for Pete's sake, they're not gods. If we really want to compare Dayton to a present-day 20-4A team, then let's look at the 2009 season (our best reference because it's the most recent complete season). In pre-season play, PN-G defeated Crosby 37-7. Crosby went on to beat Dayton and claim the 19-4A district championship trophy. Then, in post-season play, Dayton lost to Brenham, who defeated PN-G by six points in a game that may have gone PN-G's way had it not been for a last-minute interception. By that logic, it's not outrageous to say that PN-G could have defeated Dayton last year in a post-season game (although I admit, Dayton could win just as easily and I think it would've been a close one either way). When you consider the fact that PN-G only took the 20-4A district title in a nail-biter, it's not too far out there to say that Central would have given Dayton a good game as well, and Nederland only lost to Crosby by six points in the first round of the playoffs after a bad bout with the injury bug so they may have put up a good fight, too. I don't think there's a poster on this site (at least, not one with any common sense) who isn't willing to admit that Dayton has had the upper hand against current 20-4A teams in the past several years, but this is a different district than it was the last time Dayton was in it and relying on past results to prove Dayton's possible current dominance of this district is a little farfetched. Maybe I'm wrong - I don't know. We'll just have to wait until the playoffs and see what happens.

Livingston Lions This is VERY tentative. The only spot I feel confident about is #1 (;D). Vidor and Ozen have both greatly surprised me, and Lumberton seems to be tearing up the preseason. Nederland was off to a rocky start against WO-S, but the Mustangs are always good (look at their game against Friendswood) and I expect the Bulldogs to improve as their replacement QB gets acclimated. LC-M has improved, as I expected they would, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually in the #3 spot at the end of district play. I have Livingston listed as eighth because I honestly don't know much about them and I need to see more preseason information before I decide to move them up in my own personal ranking. BMTSoulja1, what's going on with the Jags? I know y'all are better than the scores indicate, and the poor performances against WB and PAM are the only reason I have y'all listed so low. What's the deal?
Hard to tell.  If we are just not that good or PAM and Brook is that good.  I'm going to say that our two 5a schools are the real deal.  You've seen Memorial in that scrimmage.  You saw how they moved the ball up and down the field and had yall on many 3 and outs...
I unfortunately couldn't attend the scrimmage between PN-G and Memorial. West Brook and Memorial are both going to be good 5A teams this year, but Ozen performed better than Central in their games against them. Is Ozen just better these days?
I havn't seen Ozen play yet, but I have a good friend who is an unbiased contact (a Brook fan).  From what he is telling me, Ozen have blazing speed all over the field.  And David Green III is really good at QB.  At this point, I think that Ozen is further along than us.  And if we don't get it together, Ozen will beat us in our district game...
Well, maybe I need to reevaluate my rankings.
