No, I mean several sports, but the most notable for both schools baseball and football. Baseball we smacked LCM 9-0, 7-3. Then we went deep in the playoffs beating Magnolia that put ya'll out. Football we were district champs, went to the playoffs (Where was LCM?) and lost to the Finalist Brenham Cubs. I have an extra purple shirt for you since you love to talk about PNG so much ;)
So, last year, PNG finished higher in 1. Football 2. Baseball 3. Girl's Track 4. Boy's Soccer 5. Girl's Soccer 6. UIL (PNG won district, LCM finished second) LCM finished higher in 1. Volleyball 2. Boy's Basketball 3. Girl's Basketball 4. Boy's Track 5. Girl's Golf 6. Girl's Powerlifting Both teams tied with Nederland for 1st place in Softball Obviously, this is not a complete list, because I don't know about the more obscure sports (tennis, swimming, cross-country) or how PNG did in boys powerlifting. But I'd gladly accept the shirt, because I don't like messing up rags when I'm drying the tires on my truck! ;D
PN-G also outplayed LC-M in Boy's Golf. ;D But, to be fair, LC-M also beat PN-G at the Area round of band competition... although we tied you at Region and beat you at Concert & Sightreading. ;D
They should all be the same no matter that activity. I am not sure about the being held to a "higher standard" though. They should just live to the standard of other students, not higher. The standard for society and students should be that you aren't out breaking the law by robbing the local store, selling dope, etc. If other students need to be to class on time, UIL participants should not be made to be there 10 minutes early. No need for the "higher standard", just "the standard".
I disagree. Extra-curricular activities require a huge amount of time and dedication. Band, football, volleyball, drill team, and cheerleader practice all start 2-4 weeks before the first day of school. UIL Academics groups and other sports teams all have regularly scheduled practices before and after school. Sponsors and students alike don't like putting in all that work just to be embarrassed by one person. Besides that, these students represent the school and ultimately the community behind it. I don't know how things work at other schools, but at PN-G, that is taken VERY seriously. I have seen students sent home from UIL meets for being five to ten minutes late and band members run ten or more laps for things that most people would consider miniscule. It's simple. If you put on the uniform, you live by a higher code. If you choose not to live up to those standards, you will be disciplined and possibly cut from the program. Now obviously, small things like a speeding ticket aren't going to get you into trouble with the school, but I wouldn't get into too much trouble beyond that.

I think LCM is up and coming with their new coach they have a 3 year starter at qb which is a big + and a good receiver corp, dont really no about their running game. As Soulja1 said dont really put much stock into 7-7 game it is more a timing tool with QB and receivers and good tool for db to practice covering their man, but until you get 11-11 it dont really mean a dang thing just fun to watch. Ned is iffy with noone really knowing which qb is gonna immerge to take control, injuries have hurt the dogs as of the last few years. Ozen dont know much about them except that they always have talent according to the bmt faithful, Central always tough speed speed and speed what can you say, but you can beat speed with discipline and patience, AS for the lions, well you just aint gonna win district with a running game, you need to throw the ball, have a hard hitting stingy defense, and special teams to boot, sorry just dont see you making any noise ;[ The L train lost their steam for their engine dont see them in the mix except that they may return to the cellar once again Then last but least their is my ndns, jv went 10-0 also , we have a solid group returning, everyone saying we cant replace Harmon, well hate to tell you but mr Bertrand is gonna be here two years and he will be every bit if not more exciting than Harmon was. Doty has a year of experience under his belt and should be a deep ball threat everytime he throws the ball but i think it is his short passing game that is his strong point, Defense is where we look the weakest at being that we are looking for all the dbs but with our coaching staff i dont think that will be a problem. I look for us to be in the mix but as everyone knows 10 - 0 was a terrific accomplishment but being realistic i dont see them doing that again
I'm liking this. LCM's running game will be alot better than last year with a good RB corp, and the defense will step up to stop the run ALOT more than last year, you can count on that! They will still have a couple players going both ways, but with more depth this year there will be more rest time for those players. I say LCM takes 2nd or 3rd in district. The PN-G game will be the test!
Coach Crouch will have the Bears ready to play. They'll be much improved. They gave us a big test last year. And why do you hate that purple?
Because it's EVERYWHERE. Watching the game at the Res was wild
You're just jealous. ;)

There's a very simple way out of this. According to the 2010 Texas Fact Book (link posted below) Texas allots about $75 Billion to education annually. Relatively speaking, $800 Million is a drop in the bucket. Now, currently, the state has a $2 Billion deficit, but Governor Perry issued an order for all departments to cut 5% of their budget. That's a grand total of $9.1 Billion in savings, which puts us in a $7.1 Billion surplus by year's end. If Governor Perry was smart, he would take $800 Million from that surplus and throw it into education. Texas schools would still open as scheduled, Congress would look like the bad guy, and our state officials would come out smelling like a rose. [Hidden Content]

Rank your 2010 opponents
PN-G bamatex replied to 82 5A State Champs's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
1. Beaumont Central Jaguars They want revenge and we know it. This will be the toughest game for the Indians outside of the playoffs. This team may very well be undefeated marching into the Reservation on November 5th. 2. Gregory-Portland Wildcats I don't know much about this year's team, but from what I've read, last year's team was pretty good and they return several players. In addition, it's the first game of the year and we're playing in the Alamodome. That brings a whole new level of anxiety to the field that they can capitalize on. 3. Nederland Bulldogs It's Mid-County Madness. Anything can happen. 4. Texas City Stingarees A powerhouse team from a powerhouse district looking for a little payback after last year's 22-16 overtime loss. 5. Crosby Cougars Last year's 19-4A district champion team will be looking to avenge that pre-season 37-7 loss. 6. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears Another team looking for a little payback after last year's 27-20 nail-biter (the second-closest game in district play for PN-G). 7. Beaumont Ozen Panthers This team always has a lot of speed, second perhaps only to Central in 20-4A. Speed was a weakness for PN-G last year, and I expect that they'll be disciplined and trained enough to use it this year. 8. Lumberton Raiders A team with some talent that's looking to restore its short-lived glory and grab a playoff spot. 9. Vidor Pirates Another team looking to keep the good times rolling. Although inexperienced, this team normally has some talent and shouldn't be overlooked. 10. Livingston Lions Quinton Jackson stayed on his feet all the way across the stage at Livingston's graduation last year, but his team may be laid flat on the ground without him. Prediction: The Indians are walking into football season with a big target on their backs, having defeated nine of the ten opponents they are scheduled to play this year in the memorable 2009 season. That being said, our team has shown that they are capable of overcoming almost any obstacle and performing miracles on the field. In addition, many of our starters return from last year's varsity team and all open positions are to be filled with players from last year's undefeated JV team. So, without further adieu: The Indians go 10-0 at best (hey, we've done it before ;D) and 8-2 at worst. -
Coaches have fond memories of Astrodome
PN-G bamatex replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I remember the 1999 4A-DII state championship being played there. I don't remember much about it, but one thing I do remember is the sea of purple you could see as you entered the stadium (that leaves a big imprint on the mind of an elementary school student). I also remember those stupid noisemakers that Stephenville brought to try and drown out Cherokee. It was funny to me because, by the end of the game, not only could you still clearly hear the band, they were beating their drums and propane tanks in beat with our fight song. -

The others were the opposite. PNG was up and held on to win. Crosby was a second half push to take the lead, but not a score within a minute. The one that stands out the most outside of the Central game is that 1999 victory over Schertz Clemens at Kyle Field. RC Slocum said that series made him a D. Long believer and he offered shortly after.
I seem to remember our last touchdown at the Crosby game coming at the very last second. As for Texas City, we may not have been behind in the last minute of the game, but we weren't ahead, either, and I believe that Barbers Hill was ahead until we made the final touchdown of the game and scored with the PAT, although that may not have been in the last minute of the game. Then again, I could be wrong. That was a while back and I tend to catch the last few minutes of each game intermittently due to certain responsibilities I have to the band. -
I don't recall what DCTF predictions were for last year, was last years even close? But it is just a prediction....only time will tell. ;D
No. They predicted Vidor to take 20-4A, PN-G was ranked third, and I believe (although am not sure) that Lumberton was in the number two slot with either Nederland or Central in fourth. As for this year's prediction, I agree with Nederland's slot. I've also said that PN-G and Central will share the top two spots, but the district title could go either way, so I at least partly agree with Dave Campbell here. However, I just don't see Lumberton taking the fourth spot and there's almost no way I see Ozen ending up in last place. I think Ozen and LC-M will be in the running for the last playoff spot.
You bet, the biggest way for this game to be a success is to have The Reservation packed. The netcast is for us folks, who are out of town and will not be able to make it to the game or see the broadcast on KBTV Fox 4. If I were still in the area, I would be there!
It's the Reservation. If there are PN-G kids playing football in Indian Stadium, it'll be packed.

Yet again, Dave Campbell ignores Southeast Texas. Nevermind the fact that one of our teams went undefeated through district play to lose to a future state finalist and another team went three rounds deep in the playoffs to lose to a powerhouse. It doesn't matter. Sure, they did all of this with brand new coaches, but that doesn't make them good or anything... And they're certainly not worth a spot on a list of statewide rankings.... ::)
First, I would also like to know what their JV record record was, but it doesn't matter. Their JV team had all their sophomores and some juniors due to all the returners on varsity. Second, how could you possibly pick Vidor that high this year, with 3 returning starters!? And they didn't even finish that high last year!
the only loss for vidor's jv i believe was to png 50-43 or something. it was a very entertaining game. i also believe vidor has more than 3 returning starters on the team. i look for their running game to still be pretty good with an improved passing game. the new qb has a better arm than last year's qb. there is a back that is pretty quick coming up too. dayton saw him in the playoff game last yr. the o-line is where the questions are, but we'll see. hopefully when the pirates meet up w/ your bears next year y'all can give them a better game. :o
Geez, sorry. I would also like to hope that Vidor gives LCM a good game in ANY OTHER SPORT besides football too. Or at the band or choir competitions. Or at the academic UIL meet. But we can only hope...
not to get off topic but vidor band of bands went to area f marching comp last year and lcm band was there and the vidor band beat them out as well as every other band in this area so you are also wrong bout the band
True, but for the record, LC-M surpassed Vidor by 100+ points at the district UIL competition.

Stone Pondering Resignation
PN-G bamatex replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Is he staying on staff as a teacher and just leaving the coaching position or is he leaving PN-G altogether? This is a tough loss. Coach Stone has produced some excellent baseball teams and made some deep playoff runs. There's a reason football isn't the only thing mentioned when talking about PN-G's top quality athletic programs. -
Greatest Moment: About a minute is left on the clock as Central scores a touchdown to clinch the lead, 22-20. Central lines up for the PAT, the kick is off and what happens? The ball is blocked. As it comes back down, it bounces off of one player's helmet and lands in the hands of none other than Dre Dunbar, PN-G's #8, a.k.a. the "miracle worker" and perhaps the only Indian on the field capable of matching Central's speed. He runs down the field to make a two-point conversion and tie up the game as the people in purple go absolutely berserk and the band strikes up Cherokee with 43 seconds left on the clock. The play caused so much excitement that a PN-G fan literally had a heart attack in the stands and had to be carted to the hospital via ambulance (he quickly recovered and was back in the stands two weeks later; PN-G fans don't miss many games). Second Greatest Moment: In double overtime, PN-G's offense lines up for a field goal delivered by kicker Zach Rhame, who had scored with only a few of his kicks since he took over as kicker after Dylan Browning tore his ACL. Many weren't confident that he could make it, but he did, winning the game 25-22. Once again, the PN-G crowd goes crazy as the band blasts Cherokee in excitement, playing the fight song several times in rapid succession. That victory made PN-G's overall record 10-0 for the first time since 1977. Third Greatest Moment: After the game, the football team gathered on the field to receive the trophy, claim the title of "Undisputed, Undefeated 2009 District 20-AAAA Champions" while the crowd cheered and the Indian percussion beat its drums and chanted "un-de-feat-ed." All in all, the 2009 PN-G - Central game was one of the best in Indian football history and was certainly the greatest football game I've ever attended.

I didn't, and hardly anyone else did, either (heck, I don't think anyone did at halftime during the Central game). This was a miracle season stocked with miracle games (Central, Texas City, the first Barbers Hill game - just to name a few), and as good as this year was, I think next year will be even better. Here's to another great season of Indian football.

This is just an "outsider looking in" perspective, so take it for what it's worth. I was at Nederland High School about two months ago and was there again a month ago tomorrow, and to be honest, I'm shocked. That high school is in terrible shape, and nearly everyone there from PN-G agreed with me. There are wires hanging down from the ceiling in places, the walls in some of the classrooms look like they're barely standing up and would fall down if you moved a couple desks around, there was insulation hanging out of the ceiling in one room, some of the electrical outlets stick out of the walls and the wiring is exposed, the cafeteria's ceiling looks like it's about to fall in, and the whole building has a generally run-down look. Don't get me wrong, PN-GHS has its own problems. But our campus is undergoing renovations. It's supposed to look like a construction site, and it didn't look as bad as Nederland's before construction began. That being said, NHS has a very nice performing arts center.

1. Port Neches-Groves Indians (I have confidence in the Indians) 2. Beaumont Central Jaguars 3. Nederland Bulldogs 4. Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears I'll give Ozen some credit and say that they may take the fourth spot instead of LC-M, and there's always potential for the #1 and #2 spots to switch. One thing's for sure: this is going to be an interesting season. PN-G, Central, Ozen, and LC-M will all continue to improve, and all of the teams will be hungry for a playoff spot (especially after the close race we saw last season).
