  1. Turf for football, baseball and softball if I’m not mistaken.
  2. Demand! I would be willing to bet that less than 10% of the schools in Texas have every teaching spot filled by certified teachers. Today, according to just one teacher job board(tasa), there are 2790 teaching positions open. I have been in Alief now for 6 years and we have not been at full staff at anytime. That is with one of the highest salary in Houston area and the best benefits.
  3. Some of us do get by on just that salary. I did for a long time: 22 years. The last 5 have been much better since I moved to Alief. Still if I do not work summer conditioning or teach summer school, I am under 78,000 a year. Includes two coaching stipends. I gripe about the money for sure, but I love what I do, so we make it work out.
  4. just for comparisons: State minimum salary for teachers: West Hardin Kountze 0 years - 28,080 30,080 31,700 10 years - 38,080 40,080 38,900 20 years - 45,510 47,510 46,400 no raises after 20 years stops at 20 36 years - 55,250
  5. 4x100, and 4x200 DQ from state meet for using a runner who was not eligible. i was told this is the second year in a row!
  6. 2 quick thoughts: 1. Only blame falls on the coach. For the six years that I have been at Hasting's, we have had to use sophomore team players to help fill out the JV roster. You count the number of games and rotate players. We have never had someone play over the limit. 2. If you know you have violated a rule, you are "required" to self report. If you read "The Leaguer", you see a lot of instances of self reporting.
  7. Are both teams stalling or just poor shooting? Make the adjustments at halftime, and run away from them H-J.
  8. In a shout out to Jeff Knight and Mike Webb time for a little 56 press break!
  9. The writer is from that area of Virginia. He probably has never even heard of Beaumont.
  10. kville is o fer this year. Orangefield is also very good.
  11. So you are saying EC is the 6th best team in that district?
  12. This will be, by far, the best wing t team that Newton has faced this year. I have little doubt that Newton scores on all of their possessions, but how many will they get? I think this might be in the high 40's (score, not weather). 49 - 10.
  13. I would speculate that the Athletic Director title and the bump in pay would have been major considerations n his move.
  14. If you take Newton's two deep depth chart and see how many different players are on it, then restrict all the other schools to just that many players, I believe Newton wins against anyone in the area, maybe the state. Example : 44 positions on the 2 deep = (I'm guessing) no more than 28-30 kids for Newton. So restrict the other teams to that number and Newton wins.
  15. The coach is not holding the kid hostage. There are rules put down by the UIL that you must follow. Transfer without moving, you have to sit out. If we don't like the rules try to change them.
  16. Lincoln went to uil tournament 11 times with 7 champs and 1 time in the PVIL with 1 champ.
  17. Agree with Lincoln and Beaumont Hebert. I just was naming schools still in existence.
  18. if we are talking hardware as being the best program, basketball would go with Kountze not silsbee. (yes I am a Homer). Kountze - 11 state tournament appearances with 4 championships Silsbee - 8 appearances with 2 championships H-J - 7 times with 3 championships.
  19. At 10 and 20 years experience, West hardin pays better than my alma mater-Kountze.
  20. The title does not say just high school athlete, but I believe he is in the conversation for sure.
