Mayweather/Marquez updates/ Mayweather wins
JoshD replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Mayweather looked great At this point, I'm not sure who can beat him. Pacquiao fight would be interesting, only because of pacquiao's relentless style, but he's more apt to getting hit than marquez. If pac comes hard as expected then he gets stopped. Cotto gets outboxed as well. If anyone, I think mosely has the best shot at beating him, but i think he does just enough to lose a close one. Still looking forward to pacquiao-cotto though. -

Marquez is not going to be coming to lay down, I think he will surprise a lot of people by making a fight out of it. This will be a great precursor to Cotto-Pacquiao -
;D too busy worrying about mayweather

The talent pool in boxing is deeper than in MMA the elite amateur boxers would DESTROY Pro MMA guys in boxing. You're 100% wrong UT #1. The boxing in MMA isn't on a very high level - I'm not bashing MMA guys as I am a fan of both sports. They have to be well-rounded so it doesn't make sense for them to concentrate solely on boxing. But to say that a pro mma fighter wouldn't lose to an amateur boxer is completely false. I am friends with both mma fighters and boxers and from what I've heard pro mma fighters get schooled in the gym by amateur boxers. Even a UFC fighter would lose to a lot of the elite amateur fighters of the same weight out there in boxing, and it wouldnt even be close! The two sports are apples to oranges, it doesnt make sense to argue over who would win. But as far as which one is successful to become #1 at, definitely boxing at least for the time being due to more competitors and a larger talent pool. Maybe it will change in 20-30 years but not at the moment in my opinion it's definitely harder to make it in boxing.
-
whether or not you think the actual act of boxing is tougher than mma is irrelevant because it's still harder to become more successful in boxing due to the fact that boxing has more competitors and a larger talent pool. Marcus Davis has definitely had waaay more success in mma than he had when he was a pro boxer before he was an mma fighter.
-
silentassasin there is no point for mayweather to take this fight as he can make waaay more boxing. He wouldnt get an mma camp together and focus all his time on mma like you're talking about because there is no point and no reward. which is why any top boxer is not likely to cross over because there is no point. In a way mayweather has a small point but I dont agree with him entirely. But the only reaon he is saying stuff right now anyways is just to get attention because he has a fight coming up. He doesn't care if people tune in to see him lose as long as they tune in. There have been a few mma fighters who were boxers first but could not make it big so they switched to mma like marcus davis. Ray Mercer might have gotten a little lucky against sylvia but Sylvia was a former UFC champion!!! If the roles were reversed I don't think you'd ever see a boxer as high profile as sylvia lose in a boxing match. In my opinion Boxing still has a better talent pool in it's respective sport, but I guess it's to be expected as mma in the 'mainstream' america and ufc is still relatively new. As far as buc saying mma is a fad and wont be talked about in a few years, I somewhat agree but have to disagree as well. I think once MMA gets older and has been around a while it's newness will wear off and it wont be the next big thing so it wont be as big as it is now. However I dont think it will die, and I don't think boxing will die. I think they will both be around for a long time. MMA is okay and I can get into it sometimes but I also like boxing better.

I can't wait either lots of great matchups will happen as a result of this tournament. would be cool if they did this in other weight classes if they had a welterweight version that would be awesome but it's going to be interesting to see how young guns andre ward and andre dirrell do when they step up to the big time with the likes of jermain taylor and arthur abraham and such it's really hard to predict a winner of this tournament as styles make fights and anyone can beat anyone, i think thats why it's better that it's round robin rather than elimination it's really hard to predict a winner of a tournament like this. ward and dirrell can be served their first losses and still end up winning the tournament. if forced to pick, I'd say andre ward will win this tournament and finally break out in the big time since winning his gold medal at the olympics, but thats just going out on a limb. I'm just excited to see the fights its also good to see the wbc cooperating, for once maybe the alphabet soups wont screw something up

Former boxing champion Arguello dead at 57
JoshD replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
what a tragedy arguello gave us some great fights the 2 fights with aaron pryor were epic!! Arguello actually fought a local fighter in Beaumont at the civic center in 1982 against "bubba" busceme Condolences to those close to arguello -
You're definitely entitled to your opinions but just because you think soccer is boring doesn't change the fact that the rest of the world doesn't think so. As far as mma vs boxing in my opinion they are totally different and shouldn't be compared. It's like comparing apples to oranges or football to baseball. Personally, I enjoy both, but the best boxing matches blow the best mma matches out of the water in my opinion. Sure, boxing might be less popular today, but if you think about it a lot of things have become less popular due to more choices, channels, etc. Baseball has declined in popularity in recent years. So whats next? IS BASEBALL DEAD ???
-
The people and writers who think boxing is dead know nothing about the sport. That's like saying soccer(the biggest sport in the world) is dead Boxing is far from dead. Don't believe me? Then why did Haye-Klitschko sale 30,000 tickets in ONE DAY for their fight in June? They are expected to sell out a venue of 60,000! not bad for a dead sport eh??

Mayweather vs Juan Manuel Marquez -July 18th-hell of a fight
JoshD replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
this is not a gimme fight for mayweather marquez has skills and can fight!! just ask juan diaz, mayweather has been inactive.... stranger things have happened in boxing!!!! It only makes sense for the winner to fight pac... I like marquez better than mayweather but I really want to see mayweather vs pac rather than another fight with marquez. -
Pacman is a BEAST!!!!! assuming mayweather gets past Marquez, which is NOT a given, Pacman-Mayweather is going to be HUGE!!!! In my eyes pacman is the pound for pound #1 right now. Regardless of whether or not mayweather is back. He hasn't been active.

pretty cool series - here is episode one [Hidden Content] episode two comes on HBO tonight!
-
This fight isn't happening anymore [Hidden Content] he should fight dawson now! ;D that's doubtful though
-
If Dawson were the cruiserweight champ instead of adamek I don't think he'd want that belt quite as bad. LOL jus sayin ;D
-
I think Mayweather would beat Pacman easily. Although he hasn't fought in a while and if he fought pacman without a tuneup then that would definitely be in Pac's favor. Hatton likes to smother guys and fight in close, while Pacman needs distance to land his straight left. If Pac uses his speed advantage and times hatton coming in then he'll have success. But at the same time Hatton has been training with Mayweather Sr. and should have better head movement and use his jab more. Not sure if Pacman's power will keep Hatton off of him, but we just have to wait and see. Definitely an intriguing fight. ;D
-
Dawson is the tougher fight and should make him hungrier. He already boxed Adamek's ears off. I think he just wants an easier fight for more money. Either way I'll still be watching the fight... and hoping adamek lands something big.... not counting on it though
-
should be an awesome fight and atmosphere as both of these fighters have huge fanbases probably the biggest boxing event of the year in terms of interest, although right now I think the Marquez vs Diaz has been the best fight of the year so far. The betting odds will probably favor the Pac Man but I think Hatton will pull it off. He's naturally bigger and stronger, and has a style that can wear people down. People think Pacman wont be at a strength or size disadvantage because of the way he dominated De La Hoya at welterweight, but De La Hoya was clearly weight drained and only a shell of his former self. In my opinion this is Pacman's strongest opponent and biggest test because Hatton always makes 140 and shows up strong and ready to fight. Can't wait for this one! ;D But to be honest, I hate to see either guy lose!
-
Adamek should get outboxed, although his KO against Banks was nice. lets see hopkins-dawson!
-
judging from the way adamek looked tonight I think hopkins wins this easily. Adamek won by an 8th round KO but any fighter with good movement can give adamek trouble. BHOP wont get broken down like Banks did. Good fights tonight on showtime!
-
at what weight will they fight at? If the hopkins shows up that beat pavlik I think he should easily outbox Adamek
-
Well, Matt Bodden's fight last Saturday as well as recent fights in Louisiana are good examples of what can happen when an mma fighter trains boxing at a real boxing gym. I was really impressed with his hands. Didn't get a chance to see him on the ground though
