Nice tune up to start the playoffs. It's finally good to a little competition to let the guys know they can win a tight one. Coach Barbay will have them ready for Bellville.
You must be an eternal optimist.....if that is not "seeing the glass half full" nothing is. Tune up???? You almost ended up at the house. You are right about finally playing some competition.....CS should try it more often.

Like I said on other threads....CS is overrated. There is no way they are the #3 team in the State. Their stats are inflated due to playing WEAK teams. CS played a good team and came away with the win but need to be very thankful for that win. It is easy to put up 60 against pond water defenses but they ran into a buzz saw tonight. CS defense played well but they will need more than that in upcoming weeks. Great game BC....I wish it would turned out differently!
Were lucky to have Gary Stelly and crew from kogt in orange. He does an outstanding job and although may be biased sometimes really calls every game objectively. His football knowledge is great and has a great color man and sideline reporter. Best in the area by far. Maybe one of the best in the state. P.s. Gary, with saying all that, can I get a free ad? LOL!
I could not agree more. When I can't make a game, I tune in to KOGT. He does a great job. As a young Mustang fan, my parents were not football fans and I did not get to make a lot of games. I would tune in to KOGT and hang on every word. Listening to him really takes me back.....
Cleveland when you get done with WOS head across I-10 and sit with us (Coldspring), home side, while we pound the heck out of BC. I'll be at yours, for sure and supporting like no other.
"When you get done with WOS". Very clever in how you masked in what form (victory or defeat) Cleveland would cheer for CS....zero doubt they will cheer empty hearted for CS to "represent" the district well. -

Kirbyville is the exception.....Orangefield is in our district. We didn't play them until they were in our district. Maybe CS made an attempt at a tough schedule but it did not work out. Could be the case -

Their schedule is weaker than wet toilet paper. Yes they are ranked #3 in the state and of course the voters are going off of the blowout wins. For better and for worse WOS has shown many times that polls don't mean squat. Maybe CS lives up to the hype but I just dont see how anyone can stamp them "unbeatable" with that schedule. CS is like the Boise State of 3A
And yet no one from your district will schedule a pre-district game with coldspring for the next 2 years. I guess the hype is too scary! Go Cleveland, Huffman, and Coldspring. Make them wish they were back in 21-3A.
Maybe there is truth to this but from what I understand and witnessed....WOS shys away from no one predistrict. If there is an "excuse" I would imagine it is to avoid playing an obvious playoff opponent twice or maybe take the lead from CS and play some 2-8 and 3-7 teams to try and bolster their place in the polls.. I think you can look at the WOS predistrict history and find some pretty tough opponents. -
I have to agree, the officiating was horrible. Mostly going against Wo-s. You usually see that type of officiating when playing in Nederland, but I never remember it being that bad. I was critical of the QB play this season, but I have to say, I was really impressed with how Salter played last night. After the interception, he regained his poise and he managed the game well the rest of the game. That's what we need from him. Just to manage the game, not try and win it on his own. Cut down on the turnovers and if there is nothing there, throw the ball away. . We still have too many penalties. We can't go into the playoffs doing that.
I agree. Salter had a great game passing and he ran really well too. For the most part, he took what the defense gave him.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention to the ones your talking about but I saw pass interferences called correctly and the right call on the field goal block. You won so why worry about the refs? WOS has a good team, they just lack discipline.
Are you serious? Silsbee was given a bad call on an intentional grounding (the QB was way outside the pocket). Other than that, the refs gave several bad calls to WO-S. The one that was most ridiculous was the tackle out of bounds by a Silsbee player. I player tackled was slammed near the edge of the track. The ref told our HC that it was the job of the sideline judge to make that call, and he didn't see it, all the while the ref explaining this DID see it and didn't call it! Incompetence at it's finest. The blocked FG attempt was CAUGHT by WO-S in the end zone. The first ref to rule on it got it right...he signaled a TD. The pass interference was made on a player who had his face toward the passer the whole time and never ran into the receiver. It was a solid defensive play, and the ref blew it.
The rule on blocked FG's is that it is a dead ball if the blocked field goal advances past the line of scrimmage up until the defending team touches the ball first(after the initial block), then it is considered a live ball and the kicking team can recover and advance the ball. In the case last night, the kick was blocked, the ball advanced past the line of scrimmage, and was caught in the air by a WOS player before a Silsbee player touched the ball. The ball is considered dead. The refs got that one right. Silsbee's ball on the 20. Example: remember the Leon Lett Thanksgiving snow game against Miami. ;)
That is the example that I was thinking of

I made that same comment to my wife. Besides being a good announcer, he seemed very objective.
that's what I heard also......
I am not sure how far on the track you have to get tackled for it to be a penalty but a WOS player has his imprint on the track. I guess he would have had to have been tackled in the concession stand to get a flag....of course it would it to be discussed at length.
What kills me is when he (the wos oc) will go from running the ball down peoples throats on first and second down for most of the game, then just switches to throwing bombs on first and second down winding up in third and long or an int.
I agree. It SEEMS like WOS will run, run, run with success and the first time the run is stopped the downfield passing starts.
Silsbee by 10. This isn't the Jasper defense WOS will be facing IMO.
It's not an opinion it is a fact. Maybe I am need to go and re-read the stats for the 1st 5 games but was anyone singing the praises of the Silsbee defense in pre-district? Lumberton put up 35 against Silsbee and that is the most points they have put up all year. Again the WOS offense has taken heat this season but in district play, against OF and BC, Silsbee is averaging 7.5 pts a game. I think the WOS defense keeps them in the game and the offense and special teams do enough to put it away. Home or Away...I really think that it's overrated in short travel highschool games. It's not like either crowd is so loud that the plays cant be called.

Wasn't Silsbee's "throwing" QB injured for the BC game? What is his status? Somone should put a poll up regarding the winner of this game. Those things are always right :)

Ozen, Bay City, PNG and Nederland are the regular season games that come to mind.

Some things you can look forward to EVERY year: Super Bowl, Thanksgiving Dinner, and watching the poor old bc card fans walk away from this match up with a loss! I look for a great FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL game with the best team winning.... I think we are in for a close game. I know WOS has taken some heat due to their lack of offense (I have been scratching my head as well) but the BC offense has not been a juggernaut either. Both have good defenses but I think WOS has the speed on offense and special teams (and maybe a defensive TD) to break some big plays and make the difference. I just dont see how 66% of the voters (not that the poll matters but since we are all offering up opinions) are sold on BC. If we were being objective, I think it should be closer to 50/50.
