  1. Pretty sure Buna threw their #2 and 3 but I don't believe Chester threw their ace either. Just like tournament ball getting kids ready for the playoffs.
  2. It is the coaches decision on who plays and what he wants to do with the team. He is there in an authoritative position. Plenty of times I did not agree with my coach or my boss. Yes you can stand up for your moral character but who has this hurt doing it this way? Well it has hurt all the players and not the coach. Sometimes coaches do things for a reason possibly out of their control as well. I hope all works out in Ktz, all those involved in this are better than what is going on. Losing is what has made this come to this I believe, crazy things go on and people blame the coach for losing. To say these kids should never play another sport againn is a little harsh, when we are taught our whole life to forgive. Here is when you let the team vote to let the play or not then follows a punishment for their action. Remember guys these are kids and when we were young we made irrational decisions as well. Time for a life lesson to benefit these boys in the future. I hope everythinng works out down there in Lion country.
  3. I know that article pretty much said its ok to throw curveballs, but what was not really pushed is fatigue leads to bad mechanics which inturn leads to injury. Throwing a curveball properly does not bother the elbow but when the elbow drops and the hand gets on the side or below the ball is when elbow is bothered by the curve.
  4. Well I will tell you in college I long tossed every day. I topped out at 88 in high school and typically threw between 84-86. In college as I long tossed more and more I threw harder, by my second year to juco I threw 88-92 consistently and topped out at 95. Here is some other things. If long tossing is done right you gain arm strengh to throw harder, also mechanics have to be in tune. Bad mechanics lead to loss of velocity. [Hidden Content]
  5. Younger kids less pitches and with the breaking ball tend to lay off it during major growth spurts. Different kids mature earlier than others. Teach a good changeup first then breaking ball. The changeup is the best pitch in baseball if thrown right. It makes the fastball seem unnhittable. Kids have growth pllates they can hurt thats why I say wait till 12-14 maybe, 14 being the latest because they need to have a little feel for it going into high school.
  6. Pitch count depends on the kid and how in shape he is. Pitching has a lot to do with the legs, abs and back which most parents are unaware of. Some kids have rubber arms, I did and could throw whenever and how much ever needed. I relied on my legs and not my arm. Good weight traing and conditioning allows kids to throw more pitches. Appearances per season depend on age and time that has previously been spent on the mound. I believe through a career this usually increases till a kids junior or senior year where it peaks until college. The extended innings thing depends on the kid again, if they are stiff no I would not throw them. I would not throw them period unless it was a must need and they would have to feel good to be on the mound at that point. Off days- day after needs distance run and some abs and maybe a few sprints, throw lightly. everyday long toss if they can get their arms into that kinda shape because that adds velocity and longevity. Either flat ground a day or two before the outing to find the mit and fine tune mechanics. Yeah there can be overuse when having practice then going elsewhere, but also when going to an outside source they should know not to overuse it, but to get the most of the training in the offseason. The Seasonal Switch- I would say get the bulk in during the spring and summer and fall mainly train the body intensely. Ice Ice and Ice good for everyone. All ice does is stop swelling of muscles due to inflammation. It is needed after the game, not go home and get it because you let too much time lapse. Just a few of my opinions and uses in a succssful high school and college career and now coach.
  7. I love the fact that everone wants to put so many people in the State Tournament or in a long playoff run. Play one game at a time to better yourself for the future, not look to the future to see yourself doing better. Live for today, tomorrow is never promised.
  8. No doubt Burkeville has some great athletes and if things come together for them they could be good. Tell you the truth they probably have the most athletic kids out of any team since Harper moved back. I believe their sports program willl continue to get better in every aspect. If they develop some arms and are not dependent on 1 or 2 kids that would help them abunch. In 1a the team that throws strikes and mixes up a little and plays defense wins. Defense hurt Burkville last year when they had their stud pitcher.
  9. Haha yeah that happened in a swamp due to rain. Burkeville always gets ahead of Chester just never seem to pull it out. I know the stats and know the teams. I know Chester has about 6 guys they can put on the mound that will be effective and Burkeville has 2. Chances are with the pitching the way it is Chester has a better shot. Also seen the stats of both teams and Chester averages about 9 runs a game or more in district and Burkeville has put up 10 once in district. I am not saying Burkeville does not have a chance I just pick Chester to beat them. Oh fyi 9-4 was the final which is not hanging in there.
  10. Chester sits in first undefeated they may wanna worry about them.  ::)
  11. fw a lot of the stuff said was in hypothetical situations because no ne knew what happened. It got blew out of proportion due to the Yates crap and when I say crap thats exactly what Yates pressing and winning by 100+ is. Thank you for clearing it up, sounds like fw coach did what he could do. Lamarque needs to get things figured out and find a few more kids with some heart who wanna play ball. Please if anyone is from Lamarque don't get upset with me, and don't tell me it is bc the coach. I know I did not like a lot of my coaches but I love the game to put our differences aside.
  12. ok thanks, he coached me back in his days at Humble. He is a good guy.
  13. Is Buddy Thames at GCM think I seen that in a post?
  14. Look running the score up was wrong in Friendswood and Yates case. Wrong is wrong why is there always who is least wrong. Yes FW could have done things to stop the bleeding, as a player and coach I have done it in baseball and basketball. Also I have payed schools back for running scores up on our kids, part of small school ability. Oh and those that say they have done this to people and have had it done to them, what goes around comes around and coaches talk. We remember those who embarassed our kids. Some people are given more talented kids it happens. Sometimes it takes time to build programs. I tell you in basketball there are few ways to stop the blowout possibly and thats a few hard solid screens that will wake up pressing teams up by 100. If any of you got beat by the scores we see that you say are ok you would not say the things you do.
  15. The bunting is in a sort an embarassment, I make sure to ask a coach before I did that. It is one of the things that I would result to. If not I would have my last string in and let them hit and move station to station and if it continued to get out of hand I would take till I had 2 strikes possibly. If that did not work I would make my kids try to do certain things with the ball and we would try to learn to hit the ball where we need to. Work situatons in our head atleast.
  16. I agree with dayton. Did Frienswood pull their starters? If they continued to steal and take extra bases with the score like this it would have got bad. I believe every coach knows what happens in situations like this, you put a few in the ribs of the other team. That is what I like about baseball, you can defend yourself from classless acts, unlike in that communist sport of basketball lol, just playing about the communist thing.
  17. Yeah thats about average for high school. A leadoff guy tends to be 4.0 or lower, just depends on how they get out of the box. Probably one of the things not taught too much, how to get out of the box fast. Seen plenty fast kids have worse times to kids who could get out of the box. Most righties tend to complete the swing then begin to run. If you can teach them to get timing of when contact comes and then the right foot takes the first stride to the bag. It sounds dumb, but you take bp to take a complet swing and you still do, your lower half just does not sit there and continue to rotate. This is prob on of the hardest things to teach as you can see I can hardly make sense typing it.
  18. 6.7 and below is a great 60 yd time and that is the distance from home to second. Most ppl don't run a 6.7 60 lol. Most times are clocked from home to first. The home to second time test quickness not speed because the turn taken at first.
  19. Ease up there jacketloser, an admin posted the win. No need to come on here and dog children. If you don't think they will make it ne where say it but to say the rest is just not needed. Just remember we are talking about children, and one group of kids that will most likely win their district which equals a bye for the first rd.
  20. Rebe Yeller- I apologize that it got off track, just tired of people bashing kids. strosfan- I knew you were fromm Buna lol, it all makes sense I don't have to even say anything else because those two towns hate each other for some odd reason.
  21. Congrats to strosfan for being idiot of the year. You make no sense at all and all you do is talk trash about people. One question for you do you just wish you were good at baseball? How jealous of other kids are you? Who is your kid and how horribble is he that you talk trash about others? Hey strosfan, I tell you this much if he continues to improve he will play D1 baseball. You can say no but trust me I have been there you haven't. We were talking about the kid as a hitter now you talk about him as a pitcher. Ok everyone has a rough outtinng but he also has not pitched a whole lot. Give it time, next year at the end of the season talk to me.
  22. Yeah he is hitting the ball well early this season. He is a special kid with a great work ethic. BIGMO where have you been, I have not seen you on the board lately. Evadale has looked well seasoned real early, if they continue to get better they have a good shot at making a run.
  23. Well just wanted to get on here and give a shout out to Chase who stepped in those shoes and tied them today, then hit a bomb for you strosfan. Don't mean to beat a dead horse but just wanted strosfan to see I am not such a moron lol. Love, Mr. Baseball  :-*
