  1. There was a qoute in the Longview paper saying "thank the lord we wont have to play Lumberton in the playoffs" lol

But in reality I would say Lake Travis, Highland Park and a few other schools have a shot at beating them but I read up on them and they have some really talented juniors that are expected to be big D1 guys and plus they have been in 5A the past few years makes them a really tough out.

  2. Hughes accuatly runs the option better than Duvall. The Lumberton coachs work 7 days a week during football season. They film every practice and after practice is over they watch the practice. There is 5 guys on the offensive side of the ball so if those 5 guys have not decided to put a guy in a certain place then there is a reason and its ussually a very good reason. Last year they did put Aaron Creadur in to run acouple different plays because he read the play as good as anyone. No one on the team right now could come close to running the play like he did. second he was already in the game so you could just swap him and Dejohn and teams didnt have time to personel against it. I trust the coaches I think you should too.

And please explain to me how they did a bad job against Vidor??? They ran an offensive set they havent ever ran and it was great against Vidor. to me it looked like the kids came out flat and didnt play well in the second half. I even talked to a few players and they say the samething. The defense played great in the first half too. Seriously some of you drive me crazy. Is it your fault everytime your kid makes a mistake in school?

  3. Lumberton (Tex.) High School had gone 42 years without making the playoffs until a year ago. In fact, the Raiders had never been to the postseason in the entire history of the school's existence. They made a bang with their first appearance, though, making it three rounds deep and knocking off defending state champion La Marque along the way.

Middle linebacker Anthony Beard helped Lumberton end a 42-year playoff drought

Perhaps the main reason for the success of the 2007 squad was the defense. Inside linebacker Anthony Beard was only a sophomore, but made his presence felt, finishing with 109 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks and two fumble recoveries en route to earning first-team all-district honors. Despite the return of Beard and several other key players, Lumberton was not picked by many people to be a contender in 2008. They have defied expectations again and are off to a 4-1 start to the season.

"Everybody underestimated us again," said the 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior. "We're using it like a chip on our shoulder. We're going to make the playoffs again this year. That's all we're thinking right now. Hopefully then we can make an even longer run than last year. Right now, I have 50-something tackles through our first five games."

With the newfound team success on the field has come attention from colleges as they make their way to the Golden Triangle school to watch the defender in action.

"I'm getting a bunch of letters from a lot of schools," said Beard. "I've heard from Boston College and Penn State lately. I like the way Penn State plays. I've also been hearing from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arizona, Illinois, Virginia and some other schools. The local schools, too, like Texas, A&M and LSU."

Beard recently took in his first college game when he made the trip to College Station to watch Texas A&M take on Miami. He says he came away impressed with Aggieland.

"I went down to A&M to watch them play against Miami," he said. "I liked the fans and it was a really loud stadium. The atmosphere was really good for a big game. I could see myself there. I really have to check out the school a little bit more than I got to then. That's the only college game I've been to. I was going to go to a game at Tulane, but I didn't get a chance to do that."

However, while the Aggies made an impression that day, so did their opponent. Beard says that it put the Hurricanes on his radar as well.

"I liked Miami a lot," he said. "I like how they play and everything. They really impressed me. I know that they haven't been having the seasons lately that they're used to, but their defense just flies to the ball."

With over a year until Beard can sign his National-Letter-of-Intent, he says he is in no hurry to name a list of favorites. He plans to take in camps at a few schools next summer as well.

"I haven't really talked to that many coaches or anything yet," he said. "Major Applewhite from Texas gave me his card, but that's about it. I really have no idea what I want to do yet. I'll probably go to the camps from the schools near here like Texas, A&M, LSU, OSU and those."

  4. I dont know if Anahuc over EC would be considered an upset.  I hate to agree with Aggies but I think Central over Nederland would be my pick. Now I did pick Nederland in my pick'ems this week. The way Grogan has came along for Nederland I think they are gonna be tough to stop on offense. 4 good WR a good QB and a good RB. What do yall think about the Vidor/PNG game. Is Vidor considered the underdog or is PNG?

  5. 1.  Nederland @ Central

    2.  West Hardin @ High Island

    3.  Dayton @ Barbers Hill

    4.  Baytown Lee @ West Brook

    5.  PA Memorial @ Sterling

    6.  PNG @ Vidor

    7.  Ozen @ Lumberton

    8.  LCM @ Livingston

    9.  Huntington @ Jasper

    10. WOS @ Hamshire Fannett

    11.  Silsbee @ Bridge City

    12.  Hardin Jefferson @ Orangfield

    13.  Hemphill @ Kirbyville

    14.  San Augustine @ Newton

    15.  Woodville @ Shelbyville

    16.  East Chambers @ Anahuac

    17.  Warren @ Deweyville

    18.  Kountze @ Hardin

    19.  Burkeville @ Evadale

    20.  Hull Daisetta @ Chester

    21.  Sabine Pass @ Colmesneil

  6. I never said he was in the Hooks catagory as far as all time great but I think that he shouldnt be overlooked considering the people that are on the list. But look at the athletes that come out of WOS and Newton. Those are 2 schools that are bigger schools for their divison and have plenty of athletes. Gerry Hamilton from rivals did a piece over WOS and he broke down the prospects on their team and he ended up with 5 future D1 prospects and 1 D1AA prospect.

Lumberton is a tough place to be a coach but the guys over there have really done a great job getting that place to where its at but if your gonna ignore that then apparently that skull of yours is really thick.
