come on Dove you where there if Evadale had of made half their layups and half their free-throws they would have easily won the game last night just one observation you have a descent point guard now you need to play the french kid inside . J/K GOOD GAME .
The PG did a pretty decent job for his first time this season playing Varsity....imagine there was a lot of mental pressure to do well. Good job HF....need more competitive games to build mental toughness!
RCS is a nice site.  But they have not seen most of the players from this area, or the players here have not attended a RCS event, or one that RCS is at.
Yes, RCS SPORTS has a website, a magazine sold in Barnes and Nobles "Da Magazine", a web show, and will in the next month or so broadcast from a Houston television station. So RCS SPORTS is a reputable ranking source.  Ask anyone in Houston. Your coach also votes for RCs sports. John Lucas uses him for evaluations at his camps. Jim Hicks is the number 1 ranking service and information source to colleges for the Greater Houston Area. But yes, it helps to go out and be seen... then....they will come to you.  Hopefully, the local Rep is getting to see the local talent being he is contributing to the ranking process. When you are in 3A or less....in my opinion it helps to go out to the drinking hole.

 5. T
Congratulation to the HF Horns for winning 2nd place in this tournament.   The Horns worked hard for redemption and despite doubters and unbelievers, yes, they did beat Orangefield to move into the championship game.  I did not attend the game where the HF lost to Vidor and only scored 15 points so I can not say what happened in that game but the score was unbelievable.  After this being the third time that HF and Vidor have been matched up I have had plenty of time to see that Vidor is not a team that HF could not beat or compete with.  Not to mention they will meet again on this coming Tuesday at HF. Just to show how this game went: 15 18 - Vidor end of firstu 27 37 - Vidor at the half 46 49 - Vidor end of third 56 72 - Final Vidor wins - reason gap widened IMO - some players giving up and not playing defense, subs, Vidor's outside shooting, HF fouling to get the ball back but not capitalizing on that (missed easy shots - lay ups) jacobmccandles - "Vidor is a powerhouse"...hopefully you were being sarcastic because I would not consider them a "powerhouse" if they are winning championships at 1a or 3a tournaments.  Why is Vidor not competing in 4a or 5a tournaments if you are considering them "powerhouse"?   So, to all you doubters and unbelievers, as I've said before on this site regarding any sport when it comes to HF the talent is there and the talent can compete with and/or beat many teams out there if the talent is used to it's fullest potential.  It's not being done and that's the problem.  The blame is not to be laid on any one person, player, coach, parent, culture, etc...there are many issues that need to be addressed. Glad to see HF supporters (other than parents) out to support the team.  Hopefully this means that there is some concern over what is going on with our program.   Even a Vidor fan commented at the game that he notices every time HF makes a run subs are made and the gap widens.  Many people know of the issues that HF face but these are not the people who can make a change happen so hopefully one day HF will realize that at this level we are no longer playing little dribblers and having to qualify every player on the team. Keep up the good work Horns...you have many supporters!
Well....all I know is I saw competitive basketball last night at the Nederland Classic. That's what I want for HF! HF has a small window in my opinion....3-4 year window to really make its mark in basketball. The tools are in the shed....its up to the master carpenter. But I am off the soap box...it is what it is. And Dove the court of public opinion means nothing when the court is on vacation and they have no opinion! Congrats HF!

Ball's kids were shooting free throws. And their were parents cheering at the refs "Take their whistles".  Hard fought game, and the best team, with the Class Act fans won the game.
::) ::) Have you ever been to a high school basketball game before??? This happens quite a bit in intense games!!!
sils did a great job...showed a lot of heart. Was most impressed with the coach from sils on the bench..seems to do a lot of the coaching with less antics. The sils supporters were great but when I saw the lady in the green shirt flip the bird at the ref and call the opposing player on the court a "cry baby" that was a lil too distasteful....and people say AAU is bad? Overall great effort by both teams....REAL basketball last night.

Where did you get your math skills from? The final score was 61-49, 12 point margin of victory.
OK...did not see final score..taken down so fast...the last score I saw we were up by 22pts. Bosha because of his height and shooting abilities and central player because he is so VERY athletic and has a promising short jumper! I look forward to watching both these two stellar young men. Best wishes to them in their HS basketball careers. Both display great attitudes on the court.
ok i'll be the first to say it, and i'm sure someone will be offended, but that's just a little too much analysis for the forum. i've followed this thread for a few days, and i understand your concerns and frustrations because i've shared them myself (especially last year), but the whole premise of "give credit where it's due" is blown out of the water if you don't give the guy in charge a little breathing room to experiment with different combo's without being shredded for it, even if tongue in cheek. he's being progressive and now you want to make the lineup for him. the season is still young and while you'd like to get some w's it's also important this time of year to figure out what does and doesn't work, and while you MAY have the attention of someone, a good way to lose it is to get an inch and take a mile. if you want to make those kind of specific suggestions why not do it privately via email, you almost assure that it won't happen by posting it "out here". just my opinion.
no offense taken. ....these are my opinions and mine only. The coach does what he wants to do in the end anyhow. My analysis could be dead wrong....but read again....I gave him great credit for adding a great line up when he did. Yes! The coach is making some great adjustments and I am happy for it. I am definitely encouraged. I saw a lot of passion from the HF coaches. So...chill Sir. It was just an analysis of what I saw work....not you or anybody else.....me.  What I say doesn't matter anyway right? This is just noise from the chattering crowd!

 17.
Again no one is denying the kids ability, but you have to give respect to earn it and from the way I've seen him treat some of his fellow teammates, I don't feel as if im ready to give him mine yet.
well...I HATE to see that there are students on this site under the age of 18...should be allowed to have an account. But be sure that you are mindful that the freshman team also has its own chemistry and their own ways of communicating that others on the outside don't quite understand. Just as you say we do not understand the in workings of your team, what appears to be a problem to you may not be to others. Freshman PG is best friends with several of these guys. No one should ever discourage confidence and assertiveness. Players have to have passion for the game. Plus you have to understand the PG position....you are the coach on the floor....the general. You have to be assertive to be an effective PG. That's what being a good PG encompasses.  Hopefully blue will tone this rhetoric down until all kids have signed off to study or go to bed. Blue you are off limits to blacksheep and whoever else is on here that sounds like they are 17 and under.
 18. Let them see you at your best all of the time. Do not talk noise, etc. Let your game do your talking for you.  Sophomore year its a coming out party.
Good advice ;)
Blue...lets just chill...and let everyone's game speak for itself. There is really nothing else to say. Now, lets go and watch some middle school ball tonight!
 19.
What does team chemistry have to do with winning games? Seriously? A team that doesn't like each other for sure can't play together, and what HF has this year for the first time in a long time, is a team that actually enjoys playing with one another. Has anyone stopped to think that the young talent doesn't mesh with the varsity and would only cause tension? No one is arguing that the "da freshman PG" is not talented enough to be on varsity. The real question is how would he fit in with the system? I've watched him play, and don't get me wrong, the kid is good. 95% of the time he will be the best athlete on the floor. However, I've also seen him get down on his teammates and all around just try to do too much forcing bad shots or making silly passes. His attitude is a problem for me. I don't like to see guys degrade their teammates because they aren't as good. Bluedove, I have nothing but respect for his determination and will to win, but I do have beef with the way he treats his teammates. If you want to teach him something, tell him to watch the way Joey Nguyen (the starting varsity PG) carries himself through practice and games, always encouraging others and never getting down on anyone but himself. If someone makes a mistake, Joey is the first one to pick them up. His talent isn't the reason he is the captain of this team, it's the fact that every player out there respects him and wants him on the couryout right next to them.u
Anyone who knows this player knows he wears his heart and hunger to win on his sleeve. It's passion for the game. Got a text from a fellow parent saying the exact OPPOSITE thing...got praise for encouraging his fellow teammates last week. However his appearance to others is something he must be mindful of. Now, he is in no way a perfect, flawless player....I have never witnessed him play an error free game. He needs to work to improve just like the next person. I dont have blinders on . But if we are gonna critique the 9th graders game on skill....let me hear your assessment of the 12th graders last game. No one ,at least I am not saying that kids need to be thrown over the bus...thrown to the wolves but younger players need to be allowed to get their feet wet to see what works best. And the coach did do that last week and I gave him praise for that..thus the reason for this thread. And if my kid ever gets to play at a higher level here at HF if he is screwing up, hurting the team...I will expect the coach to make corrective changes. If he can't cut the mustard then he will have to suffer the consequences....that's life! If that becomes my sons fate...oh well he should work harder! ******Oh and as I recall last year's senior PG was benched to play J.N. (the current varsity pg) who was a junior and NOTHING was said about that. Nobody had a problem with that. So what's the real deal?******

Very good!
I bet they still need alot more tweeks to compete in 21 3a
A whole lot more. HF is going to have to bring in players from their other teams to play better. They are hurting @ point guard and need to role play or bench many of their vet players.
The point guard position is filled by an experienced senior who has been there through tough losses and great wins.  He knows the game and sees the entire floor. Behind him is another experienced senior who rarely scores more than 6 pts per game but always has a number of assists, this is the point-guards job, not to dive the lane and take the shot every time. On the sub-varsity levels you have young players who are still about themselves and not the team. With time and experience they will overcome this, but for now i believe the coach for hamshire fannett knows what he is doing.
Philly. You are a fake! You started a thread yesterday like you were supporting the freshman PG....now today we see the real agenda.....HATIN' in its purest form. Your thread yesterday was as transparent as they come. So thankful it was removed after you were exposed. In the end....the season will speak for itself. If the correct decisions are being made....then time will reveal the truth. 22. I am a straight shooter and fair. The night of basketball at HF was very good tonight. I was very encouraged although, Tarkington did not strike me as a very strong program. The true test will be teams like HJ and Silsbee.  I have been very critical of the HF Varsity Coach for some legitimate issues in my opinion. But tonight, he made a step in the right direction. The JV Team was excellent tonight! The team is well rounded with someone to distribute the ball and a solid big man that finished tonight very well. The starting 5 were VERY impressive. Now, what Coach Richards needs to be commended for is allowing 2 of the stronger JV players to get their feet wet in some valuable minutes of the Varsity game! They were not perfect and made some errors understandably, but added a lot of credibility to the Varsity team. Trying something new with the PG position added a new dimension.  The big guy #41 played his heart out. So Coach, I am giving you props tonight. You stepped out on faith tonight....I can't help but be encouraged. Hopefully you will continue to get those stronger JV guys some much needed experience....its about planning for the near future. I saw some players tonight that left their heart on the court! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!  Oh, and good job Freshman team....you played your hearts out!
