I guess the AAU coach can do a better job -
We can agree to disagree on this.
-
I agree with .Mr.Ump1 I think and will call it a balk. No way a pitcher can step directly to 2nd if runner is breaking from 1st.
-
Where in the rule does it say you don't have to dis-engage.
-
You must dis-engage.... I would balk you every time
-
How many times have you heard a coach or a 1st baseman tell the pitcher to step off when a runner breaks early. Pitcher must disengage the rubber if runner is stealing second before throwing to 2nd base. Most throw behind the runner to 1st ( base that is occupied). Balk in my book.
-
Coach goes out to talk with his pitcher. He tosses a ball to his SS so he can throw to loosen up his arm. When visit is over the SS throws ball to bench. Allowed or Not -Allowed...... If not allowed why and by what rule.

Just because ball is in the infield the fielder must show ordinary effort to make a play on the ball before infield fly is called (needs to square up on ball ).

Defense very much improved in one week. Good contact tonight. HF recovered 4 fumbles and an interception. BH did not score on ones. Two's gave up a couple of touchdowns. Offense for HF has not had much rhythm. Taking to long for plays to develop. Receivers dropping too many balls. Receivers need to grow up fast for HF to have success.
BH moved the ball up and down the field from what I heard. The offense from HF didn't have any 1ST downs vs. the BH starting defense and could only muster maybe 2 against the BH 2nd unit. HF will be lucky to win 2 games .
Well, OLDMAN, you heard wrong.
Nope, I heard correct. BH isn't a big play offense. They methodically move the ball down the field. Racking up 1st downs and running the clock. Trust me.....HF will not win many games this year. -

I see your logic, but I thought the zone of the umpire was down and at the knees. Ever thought that both pitchers might have been a bit off. First time I saw Mills, but I have seen Pettite 3-4 times. He was up in the zone in my opinion. Mills is a bull no doubt, but he looked up in Zone as well. . Easy to say that the umpires zone caused the high number of pitches. I didn't think the guy behind the plate was that bad. Seemed consistent to me. What was your take on the umpire behind the plate? I do think the 3rd base umpire was wrong on his Balk of Pettite early in the game.
-
I went and watched this game. Both pitchers struggled a bit. Pettite kept everything up most of the night. Mills seemed to struggle as well with command. With the exception of 2-3 pitches the coaches didn't say much to the umpire behind the plate. It is easy to place blame on the umpire for this, but if you look at the number of hits each team had then that could account for both pitchers throwing more pitches than normal.
Starting this year all umpires that wanted to be eligible for playoffs either had to attend the State Convention or a Regional clinic for training. Chapters are contacted either by the UIL or by a school to schedule umpires for a series. We work split crews sometimes in series. 2 from each chapter. Sometimes it is a neutral crew that either the schools involved agree on a chapter to call, or the schools call the UIL and they call a chapter of their choice to send officials. When you say Umpire groups, we all are TASO umpires just different chapters. Not for sure if their are any UIL chapters in baseball, I have never called with any. I have made many friends throughout the State calling in split crews. Most Umpires that call in a playoff series will call at a level they are comfortable with.
Ok, leaving Beaumont out of the equation. What is the best baseball chapter in the area? Who have you worked with this season and in years past.
-
How are umpires determined for the playoffs? Do they have to meet any requirements and do you ever work with any other umpire groups?
