All nations games are 1:40 time limit ( finish what you start ) in pool play. In pool play you don't have to have a winner. Once bracket play begins then time limit is still 1:40 , but you must have a winner. Only the championship games are no time limit , unless agreed upon by both teams to set a time limit. Speaking from experience, using Nations as an example, most of the problems with coaches come from the lower level teams. Elite or Premier level coaches for the most part are up to date on the rules and workings of a tourney. I work primarily at Nations Tourneys in Humble and some in Spring. I know for a fact that the majority of the umpires used there are High school level for Houston TASO. If the umpires used in the tourney this weekend were from Houston I would be willing to bet they are not TASO umpires.

VIDOR vs. CROSBY BROADCAST/VIDOR WINS 42-20!
I think it would have been about a 30 yard field goal because the ball was on about the 20 yard line, and where they would have had to put the ball down, it would have been about a 35 yard field goal. Maybe they did not want to take a chance at a blocked field goal and a run back for a TD. That's just my guess.
If ball on 20 then it would have been a 37 yard attempt. -
Question for the Basketball Gurus!
oldman replied to mammagotjuice's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I understand that, but is it good for the kids to be ranked that early in their development. This is my opinion, so no need to bash me for this, if you pay to play the coaches or person running the program is going to tell you what you want to hear. Their sole purpose is to make money and for them to stay in business they need consistency in those who pay for their services. Again my opinion, right or wrong! -
Question for the Basketball Gurus!

What recruiting service? Didn't know they have recruiting services for middle school kids. -
Defense....this is what will determine this game. Not sure what Nederland did last week...but Dobbins will dominate this game. Crosby's front will not hold up to the size of Da'Bears........ Looking at the stats from your games....all the teams in your district ran the ball on you guys with much success.

Haven't been on in a while , but didn't take me long to find another post regarding BH. And the subject is still the same......openly critizing your coach. Ruben you are obviously an upset parent.....couldn't be any more obvious. When the BH coach was at Orangefield I never recalled him being run and gun type of coach. Funny that you say he is running and gunning this season.' IMHO............you should eat a healthy helping of REALITY.....and come to your senses.....

Just get tired of hearing how BH cheats..blah , officials do this blah...blah ....blah. You guys are ridiculous!!!! I think round robin would be PERFECT. Ask HJ if they would come? Wait I already know the answer..... :'(......NO!!!
Implying that a team won't come back the way you have implied is calling a team out. Sorry buddy. Think what you want.
Maybe he has some knowledge of what HJ's answer would be. That BUDDY....isn't calling a team out.....read my above post on my view of opinions. -

I'm just saying don't gripe when you are not playing as tough of a schedule as some. Not trying to take away from your Kountze win but they had to work harder to get there than going through those teams that you beat. No excuse for our loss and you don't hear me complaining either.
How many games did you see at the HJ tourney??? NONE, so how do you know who had the easier route?? Oh by name recognition I guess!!! Other than Bullard who did Kountze beat??? Oh and HJ beat them also!!!! The only other name team they beat was Sabine and were not any better than Pleasant Grove!!! The host team usually does make it a litle easier...........I am sure that OF did the same in their tourney. Very similar to EC........they put HJ and New Waverly on the same side of the bracket......makes it where EC has a shot at making it to the finals!!!
Apply this logic to the BH thread.......... When you host a tourney you would like for the host team to have a chance to reach the finals.......therefore.....you don't put the better teams on your side of the Bracket........... I understand it ticks people off, but look at any bracket from any tourney and you get the same feeling. Now bracket play to determine seeding for a bracket is what I like, but then again......you can control where teams could end up on the bracket as well. just my 2 cents ;D

BH Gulf Coast Classic Bracket Dec 28-30

Can't make everyone happy in life. Opinions are like .........everyone has one.......Some just smell better than others. ;D ;D Losing HJ ...Silsbee..and Cleveland will make any tourney field weaker..........I'm sure BH would like them to come to the tourney, but everyone has there reasons. -
Mr. UMP your reasoning on when you would award bases to a hit batter is just how I would call it. I do believe I was mis-interpreted earlier in this post. As far as strike zone , some umpires are more low ball and some are very forgiving towards pitchers. I know the strike zone and the hit batter rule are defined in the rule book. I still believe it is going to be applied differently by umpires based on their interpretation and opinion.
-
643.....Opinions do matter. It is a judgement call all the way. It is the umpires judgement on where the batter makes an attempt or not. If I am working a game and the batter doesn't do anything to cause the ball to hit him I am awarding him first base. You will find that most umpire chapters will come to the same decision. Didn't make the state convention this year , but I was told there was lots of discussion on everyone being on the same page on certain situations........
-
The states the batter must make an attempt to get out of the way. If a batter moves his elbow over the plate to get hit I am going to call it a strike ( as long as it is over the zone ) and tell the batter to get back in the box ( unless the strike is # 3 ) . If the ball is coming directly at the batter and he doesn't move or do anything to make the ball hit him then I am giving him 1st base. In my opinion the pitcher made the mistake of not throwing the ball over the plate and hitting the batter. If you make the batter stay in that situation then you are allowing the pitcher to get away with a mistake.

19 4A goes 3 out of 4 in these match-ups. Ozen will be the only 20 4A team left standing after the 1st round. Crosby and North Forest are very good and you can never count out the other 2 from 19 4A . Of course this is just my opinion. 20 4A has some very good teams as well......................

Parents out of bounds; respect for coaches waning
oldman replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No, you said by the time high school arrives the parents know who the best players are. Shouldn't the coach form an opinion on his own. I know for a fact many high school coaches go to games , but don't get around parents or even care to be seen because parents will talk about how good their kid is. I , as a coach, would want to for my own opinion as to the talent I have on my team and put them where I think they will do best. -

So basically the high school coach should listen to those who have watched the kids play all the way up through little league and put the kids in those positions in high school. I disagree if that is what is implied in the previous post. -

You're on the wrong select team. That hasn't been the case in our experiences. I'm too old to play ball and I have very little dealings with select ball. As I said earlier ( most cases --not all)............................. -

oldman replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If a kid is putting up the stats and doing what is expected out of him there is no question he should be on the field. I will say that coaching High School and coaching select are totally different. In high school you coach what is given to you. In select ball ( hint: SELECT ) you get to pick and choose who you get. -

In select ball ( most cases--not all ) money talks, coach will tell you whatever you want to hear as long as the money keeps coming. -
and the experts speak........................

Great article. It is obvious though that some on here don't agree with the article. -
Maybe some people on here will wake - up and smell the coffee.
-
I couldn't agree more SOULJA. I don't think for one minute that what BH did after their win was to show disrespect for Central. DickyV I will give you your props on your basketball intuition. I am by no means trying to get into a debate on BH and Central or on any other issue. Those kids/coaches/fans deserve the right to celebrate after a victory like last Tuesday. The ending will be remember and talked about for years by those who witnessed/participated in the game. To say a program lacks disciplne and class for celebrating as they did is harsh. Good luck to both BH and Central next year.............
-
So it isn't ok for kids, coaches, and fans to get excited and celebrate. I have watched the video and all I see is BH getting excited. Never once on the tape did I see them stepping over Central players. Heck ,if I hit a last second shot to win a game in the playoffs I would be celebrating too. I would hope my coaches would show some emotion as well. I believe Passion was discussed in some earlier post, I believe it was shown in the celebration.
