  1. Ive never really liked the spread. Hail the Run n Shoot !
  2. Pretty neat site, except for this comment While in Orange, I re-met old friends wherever I went-- I knew some of the police and fire staff; I interviewed the county judge as his daughter was my high school homecoming date years ago; when my careful navigating got our satellite truck stuck in mud, my high school friends pulled us out with their F-250. Im going to have to have a talk with this guy
  3. Well its seems IMO that after UT and A&M get their pics, then the other schools get their signees.
  4. Well its about time we have a good 5A representative from our area! You cant tell me all the atheletes in the area are from 4A and 3A schools.
  5. Along with the likes of Rice, TCU, SMU etc. You could even say Tech. Im not sure UH's problem though. I played there and It was more of a(HUGE) community college atmostphere.
  6. Not according to Ms. Martin. She is such a pain in the worlds neck. She opposes everything the board does so she can get some attention. Its like dealing with a 2 year old. I hope she knows people would respect a cow before her.
  7. WEST ORANGE — Two-a-days are right around the corner for high school football players and to say that there are a few Mustangs chomping at the bit would be an understatement. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs can’t hardly wait to take flight Sept. 1 when they open the season at Dayton. Of course, the Mustangs have to be thrilled about their chances this season with seven starters back on both sides of the ball from a team that finished 13-1 last season, one that advanced all the way to the Class 3A Division I State Semifinals. “The kids can’t wait to get things rolling,†said Mustang head coach Dan Hooks, who will be entering his 26th season as the head man. “We’re really wanting to build off what we accomplished last year. August 7th can’t get here quick enough.†Of course, Aug. 7 is the first day of practice for those schools that didn’t have spring practice. One thing for certain, the Mustangs have certainly been busy this summer. The weight room has been constantly put to use and the 7-on-7 squad just returned from a state trip in which it reached the consolation semifinals. “We’ve had a great turnout all summer long,†explained Hooks. “The kids are getting so much stronger and have been up here going at it with a regular routine. Our offensive line returns intact and our defensive line is almost all back. Those big fellas are going to be in much better shape going into those first practices than they did last year. We also gained a lot of steam with our 7-on-7 success.†The Mustangs will scrimmage Barbers Hill and Vidor before their first official tussle with Dayton. “We like what we have with our two scrimmages,†said Hooks, who is a native of Mont Belvieu and was a solid athlete at Barbers Hill. “Barbers Hill is a scrappy bunch and they’re moving up to Class 4A. It’s too bad we never got to play each other on the 3A level. Vidor will be a good test for us because they have a lot of numbers.†The Mustangs have a tough non-district schedule in Dayton, Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Bay City, all 4A schools. “Dayton may be one of the toughest tests out there for anybody,†said Hooks. “They have a tremendous running back in that (Henry) Dugat kid, who is a 1,600 to 1,700-yard rusher. That will be a tough place to open things up at. Dayton has a tremendous facility and our fans will love it there. They’ve got that nice poly-turf field and big old stadium. LC-M will be a tough test at our place and it’s great to get that rivalry game going again. It’s something both communities can enjoy. Then there is Bay City, enough said.†Unlike other schools around the area, WO-S had very little coaching turnover during the summer. Derrick Rivers, who was an assistant baseball coach at Beaumont Central, took the head job at WO-S, replacing Chris Bean, who went to Port Neches-Groves to be an assistant. Todd Marburgh is no longer on the varsity football staff after electing to go to a private business. “Everything is pretty much in order here,†said Hooks. “Very little shakeup. Coach Rivers is going to be a good one. He’s so energetic and will be really good for the kids. He knows the game well and is an excellent addition to the staff.†The only thing that is progressing slowly at WO-S these days is the building of the new press box after Hurricane Rita obliterated the old one last year. “That’s coming along slowly,†said Hooks. “We’ll eventually have one, it’s just going to take a little longer than expected. We’ll do something to help the media and scouts out. We’ll probably have to throw up a tent to keep you guys out of the weather.†On a more positive note, the Mustangs will get to look at a brand new scoreboard and Mustang fans will have an opportunity to watch Kenneth Beasley, last season’s standout quarterback who passed for nearly 2,000 yards and rushed for nearly 1,500 yards while accounting for 46 touchdowns, in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game Aug. 1 at the University of Texas’ Memorial Stadium. Beasley is already attending the University of Texas as he took classes during the summer.
  8. Hers the full article  Mark Foreman, a 22-year veteran teacher of West Orange-Stark High School has earned the National Honor Roll Outstanding American Teacher Award. “One of my students nominated me,†Foreman said. “I don’t know who did, but I am very honored to have received (the nomination). Many people may feel that teaching is a thankless job, but this is like a reward. When a student nominates a teacher then that makes it more special than just your peers nominating you.†According to Foreman, 54, hundreds of applicants across the United States were sent a brochure and a questionnaire. Foreman filled it out and was later sent a congratulatory letter. “It’s really great when a teacher receives an award and it is symbolic of all of our great teachers,†said Dr. O. Taylor Collins, superintendent for West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District. “He is a great role model for the students.†Foreman has taught health education for 20 years and for one year taught a credit recovery class. He also is an assistant football and track coach and says he considers it was a blessing to have been a part of their life. “The health class is a required one-semester class and teaches about life,†Foreman said. “I teach about relationships, values and standards to provide a good foundation for the rest of the classes.†Foreman said he hopes the class he teaches will enable students to become better people and to fully understand the importance of being a “better employee, citizen, son, daughter and parents to their own children someday.†“He’s very deserving of this award with the time and effort he contributes to the students at school and away from school,†said Mike Mason, West Orange-Stark High School principal. Foreman plans to retire in December to be able to spend more time with his two grandchildren in Waxahachie. “I will miss the (students) tremendously, but when I find something to do it will be with kids,†Foreman said.
  9. Well its hard to compete with the "lifestyle opportunities" with the Big two in Texas.
  10. Im guessing his will prolly be a team like the Chip Ambress years? I believe that was the last time WB had some hype around them.
  11. Congratulations to Mark Foreman of West Orange Stark High School. Foreman was named Outstanding American Teacher for the National Honor Roll. Foreman teaches Health in addition to being the assistant football and track coach. Way to go coach!
  12. She is the type of people that give our school a bad name!!!! Coach Hooks is more deserving than most for what he has done. She needs to go............................ never mind!
  13. The board also discussed renaming Mustang Stadium to Dan R. Hooks Stadium but a vote was not taken. Member Shirley Martin spoke against the move saying, "Why would we want to name a stadium after a man who has never lived in our district, never paid taxes in our district, and didn't even think enough of the district to send his kids here?" The other board members in attendance, Harry Barclay, Pete Amy, Nancy Byers, and Eric Mitchell all spoke in favor of the move saying basically that his record and awards speak for themselves and that when successful football programs are talked about across the state, WOS is always on that list. Hooks' teams have won two state championships and he's averaged 10 wins a season. This lady is a MORON, most people are waiting to run her out of office. This is the same lady that is known for verbaly threatening another board member. She is an ungreatful .... that has a personal vendetta against the HS coaches. How disrespectful can you be? This makes my blood boil!! If im not mistaken, she was the ONLY one to vote against coach Thompson coming back afew years ago. Let me stop before I go ballistic.
  14. Well, 7 on 7 doesnt mean much IMO, but I do see us making a long run. I even say we go undefeated in district.
  15. Westbrook will be interesting to watch this year!
  16. Yeah, another Jamaal Charles is a pretty steep stair to climb.
