I get made fun of for it, but I love varsity blues. Sure, its very exaggerated, but a lot of it is true. It's just a very entertaining movie.

Cano did very well being a freshman. Beasly is only a kicker because we didn't have one. Some people might not know that he is one of our starters. It's hard to play both ways and then have to kick. In my opinion, I would let cano handle xp and chip fieldgoals and let beasly kick off untill canos leg gets stronger. That's what they did with me. -
Prayers from Mustangland.

Well be fine. I would like to see Rutledge play some more and actually open up his passing game. Heard he has great field vision and can hurl the ball. We need to get him ready for the future. Salter did an awesome job last week and looks like he is coming along great, not asking to replace him, just want to see the other young kid throw if we get up alot. -

Would be awesome to see OCCS make the top ten. If they keep playing like they have, I see them being there. -
Coldsprings has a running game, but they have yet to utilize there passing game that much, I did see a glimps in Crockett. They have a tall TE that looks 6"5 , 6"6 very athletic looking, and that has hands to boot.
The way they have been running the ball, I wouldn't throw either. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. From experience though, you need to pass here and there to stay fresh. We, WOS, a few years ago had a qb and a heck of a running game. We ran into a team, wimberley, that shut our run game down and we hadn't used our passing game enough during the season and boy did we pay for it. I still think that wemberley team was one of the best teams I had ever seen.

Hope they will be back at it soon. I didn't realize Ned had two defensive ends that big. I missed the Ned WOS game, ao didn't get to see them.

It's why I love watching 20 4A, you never know what will happen on any given Friday. They have a lot of good teams. One little mistake can kill you.

Some people are just conditioned to be hypocrites. It's what they were taught growing up. We both know you are right with everything you have said. You have clearly given example after example. It can't be disputed.
Well then, why don't you, with your clearly superior intellect, walk us through it: 1) Why is it inherently bad for a coach to publicly critique a specific high school athlete for their play in a particular game? 2) What specifically did Cornell say on the radio that you found offensive? 3) Who did he specifically identify? 4) Who in the past got upset about a similar circumstance and how was the circumstance similar?
Great post Judex, I'm sure the responses will cease now. I like how they call us pea brains. I knew I shouldn't have gone to college. Lol.

You have equated singling out a specific player with criticizing a group of players. They are not the same thing. It is not hypocrisy if there is a substantial qualitative difference in the comparison. Give it up. P.S. It is not a question of us worshiping Coach T. Some of us are just painfully aware of his importance to the program. Some of us want Toby to come back for the same reasons. There is something more than just rhetoric to the phrase "Mustang Football." If Coach T leaves without a worthy homegrown replacement, that program will die. The best thing that could have happened would have been for Toby to stay as OC til he could take the reigns from Coach T. Hopefully he will come back so that the legacy can live on.
please, Mr. JUDEX, and anyone else who wants to say anything, stick to facts and relevance PLEASE!!!!! NOW, whenever you`re trying to determine the validity of an action it never has anything to do with the number of people involved, whether it`s the person comitting the act or the person that the act is comitted to! I`ll make it real simple for you so you can GET the point! EXample 1. The UIL has determined that it is against the rules to play academically ineligible players, players that don`t live in the proper school zone etc... in the early 90`s WO-S had ONE player determined to be academically ineligible and had to forfeit several games and was disqualified for the playoffs, even though they would have been districts champs. that involved one player! Example 2. a few years ago Katy was one or two games away from playing for the state championship, a parent fed the whole team, the UIL determined that was a violation and they were kicked out of the playoffs. here is the point, and it doesn`t matter if it`s an individual, an organization, or what. IF IT`S WRONG TO DO SOMETHING, THEN IT`S WRONG TO DO IT, WHETHER IT`S DONE TO ONE PERSON OR A MILLION PEOPLE. whether you`re talking about how we treat each other in the community (manners, etiquette etc...) or following the rules of some governmental agency. the number of people involved is IRRELEVANT!!!! here`s something i think we all can agree on:for example it would be wrong to put an innocent man to death, because it`s wrong, not because of how many peolple were involved. FOLLOWING YOUR LOGIC, ONE PLAYER vs SEVERAL PLAYERS it would be ok to put one innocent man to death and it would only be wrong if several were put tp death, WHICH IS PATENTLY RIDICULOUS to your point about having a "home grown" coach be integral to the success of wo-s football: Steve Mccarty started that program, he had never coached in the district, neither had Dan Hooks. the community is the key to the success of wo-s football, the parents, along with the kids develop a passion to play football, and to play for wo-s long before they ever reach the seventh grade and they will play for whoever is the coach. as long as there is a high school in orange there will be a successful football program, where the coach is from has nothing to do with how good of a coach he is. Orange texas had a proud history of producing great high school football players who went on to play professional football, long before Dan Hooks & Cornell thompson showed up and it`l continue after they`re gone. LEARN YOUR HISTORY BROTHER, and please stop being willfully ignorant, because it is hypocritical
Man, you have some serious issues. You are beyond left field...your in the parking lot. I have no idea why your feathers are so ruffled, but its your opinion. We get it, your upset with Thompson. Now lets just move on. I have never seen someone use hypocrite so many times.Geez.

Just because a guys around for 30+ years we are suppose to forget the fact he blamed the players for the loss. Kids are gonna make mistakes they are human but don't throw them under the bus when it was very obvious the play caller clearly didn't have his act together so therefore it's going to cause the players to look as though they don't know what they are doing. I don't recall him being "thrown under the bus" on public radio. Just sayin'
I heard the interview a little while ago. He talked about some players being selfish and not being team players. Personally, I think they should play it again on the loud speakers at practice so everyone can hear it because he was right on the money. Ridiculous to accuse him of throwing someone under the bus. It's motivation and is absolutely necessary at times and this is one of them.
Well it should be looked at the same way when the coach is being criticize because he's not getting it done. Some of you are such hypocrites. You guys never think it's justified to criticize the coaches, but have no problem criticizing children. If the kids can't get it then it still goes back to the coaches. These same kids had no problem getting it last year.
Are you calling me a hypocrite? I haven't said a thing to you about your little rants. I think people are freaking out for no reason and that's my opinion. Am I not entitled to my opinion? And besides, who is criticizing children? I'm not and neither has anyone else. Cornel Thompson criticized the attitude of some of his players which is his job to do, he is the coach. He is not a whinny complainer on a public message board. Surely, even you can see the difference.
it may be thompson`s job to critique his players, but he didnt have to do it publicly. when you start publicly critcizing your children, or anyone in high school, then you`ll have a legitimate claim. it seems to me all of you hypocrits on here who want to build some monument to coach thompson, and crucify anyone who questions his coaching style, or suggest that he could possibly have done anything wrong, like publicly calling out his players, then you want to say the players are "almost" grown men and they should be able to take it. well, i remember a few years ago when one of wo-s` assistant coaches son was the the QB, and people criticized his play, you all ran to his defense, and said how no one should be criticizing a high school kid. DO YOU REALLY THINK THE SENIORS ON THIS TEAM DON`T THAT THEY ARE SENIORS ?????/ , AND THAT ANYONE WHO PICKS UP A PROGRAM DOESN`T KNOW WHO THEY ARE? IT DOESN`T MATTER THAT HE DIDN`T CALL A SPECIFIC NAME, HE BESMIRCHED ALL OF THE SENIORS BY CALLING THEM OUT. SO MAKE YOUR MINDS UP, YOU CAN`T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS
You know, I would be willing to bet that you have been "besmirched' by Thompson, or maybe have a beef with the program itself. Im not sure where you get off calling us hypocrites or "building a monument of Coach T", but we give respect where respect is due. WOS has always been different because of the blunt coaching. That is the MUSTANG way, not Coach T's or anyone elses. Seems like the only people that have their panties in a wad about this are the ones that couldnt cut the dicipline at WOS or are an outsider that has no clue about the program. Give it a rest and go back into your hole. I love when people get on here and hide behind an avatar. You have 5 posts, your opinion doesnt mean squat. now im sure you will post again with another name and cry.
Some of the people speculating on motivations and the hierarchy of the Mustang coaching staff clearly are not aware of Coach T's history with this program and the area. The man did not come back to remain D.C. if/when Dan retired. They also are apparently not aware of the impact that Coach T has had on this program. More than a few former players have been heard to say "Hooks might be the head coach, but that is Coach T's team." There was no question who would take the reigns and the idea of it being any other way is frankly absurd. I think Toby has a bright future and I wish he had stayed, but the ONLY way he had a prayer to be Head Coach would have been for Coach T to retire as well. Clearly he didn't want to wait even a fraction of the time that Coach T waited to inherit that mantle. Offense wins games, but defense wins championships. We may have some kinks to work out on offense for the games that really count, but the defense seems to be drilling it down and it sounds to me like we are going to be in good shape once we get there. People have been crying about the OCs and predictable play-calling since before we were winning state, all the way through, and after. The song remains the same - and we will get back to winning soon enough. These alarmists need to chill out.
I agree 112%! And the OC bashing could have something to do with our type of team. like you said Judex, Offense wins games and Defense wins championships. We have ALWAYS been a Defensive team therefore our offense has always looked sub par. When you have such a defense, the offense will follow. If you can hold teams to 14 points or less, the wins will come!

Chrokee was the WO Chiefs fight song. Could be wrong, but that is what I have been told numerous times. Something about that song that just sends chills down your spine. Maybe thats just me though. And its coach Thompsons fault. in 1997, the Monday before the game we were going to play on Friday, he had a boom box in the fieldhouse and literally played Cherokee over, and over, and over. This is no lie, ask him. And just when one side of the tape would finally run out, he would casually walk out of his office and flip it over and hit play. oh, and both us and PNG were undefeated. Believe we were number 2 in state and they were 4 or 5.
The original fight song for West Orange was “Hail to the Victors†but Cherokee became the de facto fight song in the early 70’s.
That is correct. I asked my father. He has had the same exact season ticket seats since '71 when they were the Chiefs. He said it kind of caught on when they would play it from time to time and then "de facto"ed to it. -
Trust me Sally, ive been in his office too many times to cross him, lol. That P.O.T. scares me to this day. haha. Anyways, on a serious note, if you look at the guys on here that have played for him or are true fans are the ones behind him. Its outsiders that are bashing him. They do not understand his motivational stance. IMO he did NOTHING wrong asking his players to accept responsibility and to get some fire under their @#$. We will be fine and I know this because of who is in charge!

I honestly didnt think they were going to be in this situation at all. To be 2-1 and only have about 12 players? That aint bad. I do know that the whole Orange area is excited about CCS and I hope they have stands because there will be ALOT of people at that next game. Go Lions!
I also agree Gun, and if you look at my first post on this thread, you will see where I said that the defense we played Saturday was a championship type of performance. It is very rare when you stop a team COMPLETELY (except for two plays) and lose. But look at it this way, if the defense is that good then that means there is only 50% we need to worry about. pretty good numbers in my book.

Ill say it again, CALM DOWN people! I agree with many people on here that some of the Coach T supporters jumped off the wagon because we barely lost to three good teams. I am not a fair weather fan nor ever will be. thompson is the only man for this job. As for the interview, if you have played for him you would know he pulls no punches. He expects a full effort no matter what. If he called out senior leadership, then you better dang know that is the problem. he is a man of his word and his integrity is second to none. Here is the problem...Coach hooks was a political coach, always spoke to the crowd at hand. He was a spokesman per say. Thompson is not, he is a get it done and no excuses type of guy. Two totally different personalities. Both are great, and both are proven winners. Instead of critisizing and whining, lets band together and support what he is trying to do and that is to create a championship team! True Mustangs dont complain, they take care of business!!!
