I would like to add Ryan Owens (Sophomore) from Hardin onto the top performers. Ryan ran a 1:58 to win the 800 meters in Region 3-2A. This is Ryan's second trip to the Show.
Wow...nice job. He shaved quite a bit of time off his best? and just a soph....Congrats! Also....Matt Viverette of BH bettered both his school record PR's in the 110 and 300 hurdles, winning both events at region....good luck, Matthew, at state!

Matt Viverette (BH) broke his own school record for the 3rd time this season at the Pearland Regional Qualifiers Meet. Took first with a 38.36, about half a second faster than his last PR. He also won the 110's with a 14.58.

I have wanted to get turf for a long time, but have really changed my opinion of what should come first after talking to several coaches (very successful ones :D ). While a turf field looks great, its going to cost about $1.5 mil to put in. And its going to get played on by our boys FIVE TIMES per year. Yes, we might get some playoff game revenue, but that will be limited. What I see as the most cost effective way to actually make our whole sports program more successful is to build an indoor training facility. With the amount of rain, lightning and other inclement weather we have on the Gulf Coast, having a place to actually practice instead of walking through plays in the gym or missing practice time all together seems like a huge benefit compared to having a turf field just to play games on. PLUS it could be used for other sports such as baseball and softball for the same conditions. Having an indoor practice field would give us a great competitive advantage over most schools that don't have one. Having a turf outdoor field just makes us like everyone else. Maybe we will have both one day, but I vote for the indoor facility FIRST.
-
I like it too. I think it will give Coach Gage an opportunity to get a good look at the athletes he has available and start putting the puzzle together early.

BH will have Spring football practice for the first time in history (I think!) beginning April 30.

Bump...several updates added. Good luck to all in District. Looks like BH has decided last minute to have a little district warm-up meet in Anahuac tomorrow...originally this week was open on schudule. 19-4A District meet next week in Dayton, Tues and Thursday (unless they decide to do it all in one day, then its Thursday only).
Hey HG, Donisha Moseby of WOS jumped 35-10 in Triple Jump at the Silsbee Relays. Just noticed that would give her 3rd. She is fun to watch..makes it look easy. She and Bea should take district. Thanks for making the list...it's interesting. mrs.t
Your welcome...and miss hangin out with you guys. ;) Tell Mr. T hello!

Anyone know of boys pole vaults exceeding 13-0 in the area?

Thanks for the updates...keep 'em comin'.
For the district 19-4A meet it should be a show down between Kyle Brown and James Leonard from BH / Crosby for the 800m title. Both of them are already running 2 flat and below. Should be quite exciting in the weeks to come to see how fast they get before district. :)
Yeah, Kyle is running great, with good improvement each week. Sean Evans (my son) got down to a 2:02, but then got hit with bad chest cold. Hoping to get back healthy this week and push for 2 flat by district and the third spot. The 19-4a girls 800m should be VERY fast...5 girls under 2:28, including a 2:16 by K-Park.

Is 51.30 or 50.99 elite? The 50.99 by Shawn Lewis is ranked 122 in the State 1A - 5A according to txrunning.com, and I promise you that doesn't include all meets and times. So that is probably ranked more like 150.
Really if you want to get technical Kingwood Park isnt even in SETX... This isnt txrunning.com so we arent trying to compare times to txrunning... I think this is about SETX ranknings and those times do rank in SETX even though they arent ELITE 48's are 47's
I hear ya...but K-Park is going to be at the 19-4A district meet in Dayton in a couple of weeks...so they are on Dayton, BH and Crosby's radar! ;)
None taken ;D ....what i'm trying to do is rank the best in the SETXSports.com area for the purpose of comparing competition in advance of district and region meets. Clearly some of these times are not "elite" statewide, but local performances might be interesting to some, giving them an indicator of what they need to place in district or what they will see at the region meet. I'm just now getting into the results, as folks post, I may drop off the lower performances. And yes, I know the SETX area is not defined well...just doin the best I can based on districts around the area. BTW, a 51 may be elite at the 1A and 2A level (for the area)...want to give those boys and girls some "press" even if its not competitive at the higher classes.

HillGuy...Shannon Evans recovery report.
HillGuy replied to Slam14's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Thanks Guys...I don't know what she got from Dad, but BB talent evidently came from Mom ;D She is doing really well considering. ACL surgery on March 2 went extremely well according to doc, but since she had a small meniscus tear as well, she has to stay on crutches (no weight on foot/leg) for at least a month. She is re-habbing nicely though but its slowed because of the meniscus heal. Meniscus was torn and repaired in a place that should heal completely though which is wonderful, since that is not always possible. She continues to have a great attitude and is confident about recovery and chomping at the bit to get a basketball in her hands...but one step at time is necessary. I have learned more about ACL injuries in the last month than I ever thought I would. It is amazing to know what can be done now to repair them. Its also scary to know that girls are 4 times more likely to have that injury than boys (in the same sport). There are MANY college girls playing at the top of their game that have gone through this...which really helps to know when pushing through the painful, 6 month rehab. It means a lot to me (and her) that her attitude is recognized as much as her BB skill. Especially coming from both of you. Wishing KK and Tiff all the best and injury free till they decide to move to the next challenge in life! -

Nice :) Congrats to all. Especially the MVP's -
Joe Evans, for those that don't know, is Andy Evans father. He has kept active into his 70's assisting Andy at Tatum. I had the pleasure of having "Coach Joe" as my HS coach for one year, but have a lasting memory of a wonderful person and leader just from that short time. Congrats Coach!
I agree, maybe in volleyball, softball or track but not basketball.
Agreed...in 19-4A, I believe K-Park's Larla Brown will be playing for the Coast Guard Academy, but that is all I've heard so far. Know San Jac had some interest in the Carter cousins at BH, but have not heard any confirmation of committment.

Matthew Viverette (BH) will be pushing a low 39 in the 300m hurdles before season is over. Should win region 3 4A.
Congrats to Kendall Shaw of Barbers Hill...only a soph. IMO, Shannon Evans of Barbers Hill should be on this list as well. Also, conratulations to all of the other SETEX region players. nice job !
Thanks Eagle 07, but these regional selections usually are based on performance during the playoffs (not the season). Unfortunately for Evans, she was sidelined during that time. Next year, baybeee. ;D Congrats to K Shaw, she definitely deserved it.
