1. Hard to pick ONE, but Pennee Hall would definitely make most people's short list if they knew her accomplishments.
 2. Hot off the press!!!!!!!!!!!!! BH hires two-time state champ coach By Dave Rogers The Baytown Sun Published January 19, 2010 MONT BELVIEU – Barbers Hill school trustees voted 7-0 Monday night to hire Ronnie Gage, a recent inductee in the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor, as its new head football coach and athletic director. Gage, a native of Decatur, Texas, led Lewisville High School to Class 5A state championships in 1993 and 1996 and was athletic director for Lewisville ISD from 2003-2006, after which he re-entered coaching at Austin College, a non-scholarship NCAA Division III program in Sherman, Texas. He coached Austin College to a combined record of 13-17 the past three seasons, but the Kangaroos led their conference in rushing each of those seasons. “We wanted a quality person who could communicate with parents and motivate kids,” Barbers Hill schools superintendent Greg Poole said in a news release handed out after the vote. “Furthermore, we sought out a coach who has been the absolute best at what he does. If you want to win a state championship, the first step is hiring a coach that has been there and done that. “We are honored to have him join our staff and look forward to what he will bring to our Barbers Hill program.” Poole announced before the motion was made to hire Gage that neither he nor any board members would take questions after the vote. “We think he’s good,” Poole did allow as he handed out the news release. Barbers Hill announced in mid-November that it had agreed to buy out the final 18 months on Don Price’s contract as head coach and AD. It was about a month later when the board OK’d the separation agreement and began seeking a replacement. Gage earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas in 1976 and later completed his master’s degree there. He began his 32-year coaching career at Keller Middle School in 1976, then spent 12 years as an assistant at Lewisville High School before his first head coaching job, at Justin Northwest High School from 1987-90. He was head coach at Lewisville for 12 seasons before stepping up to take on the AD job of a school district that now includes five high schools. Gage’s high school head coaching record, according to the bio prepared for his Hall of Honor induction last summer, is 132-58-8. He served on the THSCA Board of Directors from 1999-2003, was the 2003-2004 THSCA President and also coached the THSCA North All-Star football team in the 1995 All-Star game. He and his wife Stephanie have two daughters: Jessica and Julianne, and one son: James. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Share | Mail | Print | Letter
 3. Does anyone know how the Wiley girl is doing?  Please post some info if you do.  Hope she is ok.
When a coach decides to shop around for jobs that he has no intention of taking, whether a school district approaches you or not, to get a raise from you current school, is no longer in it for the kids. IMO
Baloney...you can be in for the kids AND look out for your own family
 5. I can understand your concern and on the surface it might be frustrating to a Dayton, or other 19-4A fan.  I am not an insider to the officials group (how they are scheduled, etc) you reference, but let me give different perspective.  From what I hear, getting folks to become refs is hard enough and having a group of good, experienced ones is even tougher.  I know these men and women and they are not just in it for the extra cash.  The truly want to provide the area with good officiating.  If you become a referee, you are probably a basketball fan...and you probably support your local team, or even have a kid in the program.  If you exclude anyone with any ties to local basketball or local schools...well, good luck with that.  I'm not offering a solution, just the reality.  What I see is some fine BH area residents who have stepped up and took on a job that a lot of people (including me) would NEVER do.  The fact that there are a lot of BH officials is not BH's fault, ....maybe its the fact that other communities are NOT producing folks who will do it.  It ain't perfect but it could be a lot worse.
 6.
I wonder if poole is the reason that these coaches are staying put.
I don't see that at all.  Not excepting an offer because your current employer agrees to raise or even match your salary offer is pretty darn common.  Its frustrating if you are doing the hiring, but you have to expect it will happen.  In the business world, it usually happens very quietly but, unfortunately, in the public arena it is usually spectacularly visible.
 7.
Hey Hill  I got to see the 1st 3 qtrs of the game before I had to leave...Not a fan of either team but enjoy good basketball...Don't you think The hill got the benefit of several calls? I didn't see it all and it might have changed but as a FAN OF BASKETBALL..I thought the Dayton Coach had some ligit complaints. Good Win vs a team that played you hard. You just shot better than they did in stretches. Good Luck the rest of the season, I'll get to see you again
I'm pretty objective, and what I saw was generally below average calling BOTH ways...not sure of the foul count but Dayton went to the line a LOT tonight, especially in the 4th Q.  I'm starting to get concerned...BH has played pretty lackluster in the last 3 games, including tonight.  At least the free throws went in tonight...only missed 3 or 4 all game, compared to 18 against GCM.  Dayton got after us hard on defense and we were ineffective pressing.  Dayton came to play!

 10.
Sorry fellas. Time to re-bait the hook. [Hidden Content] Sandifer To Stay At Wylie  Reported by: David Robinett Thursday, Jan 14, 2010 @01:23pm CST Wylie head football coach Hugh Sandifer is staying put. Coach Sandifer told Superintendent Joey Light today that he is staying at Wylie High School. Light told Bigcountryhomepage.com Sports today, that he and Sandifer have an agreement in principle on a new deal. In 24 years as the Bulldogs head coach, Sandifer has led Wylie to 211 wins, 3 appearances in the State Championship game, and 1 State Championship.
No surprise,...great guy, but why would he leave Wylie at this point in his life.  I'm sure they offered a nice "bump" to keep him...he deserves it.

They are very up and down. You should have an easy one to finish out the week. Good Luck
Thanks...they tend to get "up" to play us.  But they are meeting a BH team that should be plenty p'd off at their last performance, so kinda feel sorry for 'em!
HillGuy, they should be up after 2 down performances....and us fans demand a game that is not a 1 point game.  Tough on the ticker.  ;D
Ditto!...a one-pointer against K-Park was not surprising, the one against GCM was pretty darn disappointing.
Come on now. Give us SOME credit.
I did in earlier post ("good motivated team")....thats all I could stomach  ;D ;D ;D        I said this on the football thread in the fall and say it again now:  BH players need to wake up and understand that GCM sees them as a huge rival and are coming after them hard everytime they meet.  I'm really impressed with that.  I think my DD has finally woke up to it...she attempted only 6 shots in the game, that will not happen next time  :o

 13. Very good research, 'Pats...the story continues.... ;D
 14. BH loses 5 (three starters)... may not have quite the offensive arsenal as this year, but should still be a re-load, not a rebuild

 21. Thanks mj...Its way early but I suspect we would face LCM in the first round...and hoping she won't be reporting to softball practice for at least a couple of weeks later!  If that game happens, come out to see it and bring "Rocket girl" with ya.  ;D

KP had plenty of chances to win that game just could not get it done.
And another thing...last year we beat KP at THEIR place by about 15 and they were all over THEIR referees, then same thing at the "play-in" at Dayton, all over the refs again...wondering if KP fans have ever had a set of refs they liked  :D :D
 25. That would be a bigger upset than the football game, but girls can dream I suppose  ;D Noticed several of the Lady Pats came to watch BH during the Classic.  One of them had a "Barbers Who?" shirt on...now THAT was funny.  You know you have an envied program when people start making shirts like that!
