Good one...With the warm up areas available at some tourneys, it's inevitable. Oh yeah...that's another one: Lack of warm up space!

North Forest Crawford goes to Aldine
HillGuy replied to BHFAN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
North Forest is still in deep trouble, he probably saw the storm coming and got out. Don't blame him. That district needs to be absorbed into HISD or another in the area. -
Anyone know the schedule of events for HF meet tomorrow? Start time, Pre-lims, finals etc. Thanks

This is all we got...a Baytown Sun article noting BH girls receiving the honors. Can't find a total list of 19-4a anywhere. Don't know who the MVP is, etc. pretty frustrating. Guess will have to wait until the chronicle posts everyone's in a few weeks. Sun article: Crosby’s Carter, BH’s Evans top all-district From sports staff reports Baytown Sun Published March 11, 2009 Senior Kendrae Carter led Crosby’s boys to the District 19-4A championship and he leads the boys’ all-district team as most valuable player. Freshman point guard Shannon Evans lit the fuse for Barbers Hill to tie for the District 19-4A girls’ crown and the league coaches recognized her as newcomer of the year. The Cougars, 25-9, and the Lady Eagles, 26-10, were prominent on the all-district teams voted by the league’s coaches. Both their coaches, Crosby’s Justin Reese and Barbers Hill’s John Chancellor, were named coach of the year. Freshman Kendall Shaw and junior Jasmine Carter were first-team picks for the Barbers Hill girls, with sophomore Jenna Silva, junior Jillian Coon and senior Britney Gibbs earning second team honors. Crosby junior A.J. Anderson joined his coach and Carter in earning superlative honors for the 19-4A boys, listed as defensive player of the year in the league.

Barbers Hill usually has summer league (one weeknight per week in June) and a fall league (weeknight in Sept). The fall league was very successful last year, with teams from Atascocita, Humble, Huffman, etc. The June league is ok, but usually lots of players missing due to summer vacaction. Like to get some GT teams to come over this year! I'll post when we get info on it. I'm sure anyone interested can contact Coach Chancellor at BH.

All SETXsports Girls Basketball Team Nominations

See, you can not rely on some of the other posters. They are "Homers". Go to the Houston Chronicle and you can get some stats of the girls in this area. They are not accurate but close. Bleed, I would say almost totally disregard the Chron stats. They only take what the coach gives them and that is hit and miss at best. BH only reports top two scorers for each game and no other stats...pretty typical of most schools in the area. So the Chron stats don't look anything like our actual stats. I would just rely on the official school stats if you can get them. -
From another board...someone I assume is familiar with the process wrote this: I would say most if not all all-district selections have already been made. There is an agreement to not tell until all of the district's teams are out of the play-offs and sometimes after the state tourney. With that being said, all-district is voted upon by the district's head coaches. Although some may vary, in most cases the head coach is not able to vote for his/her own players. Usually the major awards are nominated by their coach and then voted upon by the coaches. Those kids who are MVP, Newcomer, Offensive and Defensive MVP are usually automatically put on the 1st team. From there, the committee decides how many are on the first team (this number varies between districts). Then the head coaches nominate players from their team that they feel qualify for first team. The coaches vote for the girls who they feel should get first team (again, coaches can not vote for their own players). So, if they decided that there would be 10 players on first team, then each coach will write down 10 names. Then the votes for each kid are counted. This process is repeated for second team. The kids that were nominated for 1st team but didn't make it, are automatically put up for nomination for the 2nd team. Coaches are allowed to nominate more of their players for 2nd team. Again, the coaches vote for the set number of girls to comprise the 2nd team. Sometimes there is not a clear-cut break in the votes, for instance a 3 way tie for the 10th spot. More times than not, I would say that the coaches honor 12 instead of 10 in order to honor more kids. The exact process is up to the committee of head coaches with input from the AD. That gives you a general idea of how it goes down. All you ever wanted to know about it, lol. I understand UIL does not regulate this at all, but the district committees.
-
Still don't have 19-4a either...don't think they have even met yet to nominate. Strange how some districts get it done quickly and others wait a month...not sure if the UIL even regulates this.

How many juniors are on the team this year? 5, but returning 2 sophs and 2 fresh (all probable starters next year). Most of the talent depth is in the current freshman and soph classes. I don't envy coach determining varsity next year, it will be the most talented group of girls top to bottom to come through BH maybe ever. Oh yeah, and there is that amazing bunch coming out of 8th.

BH Lady Eagles Bow Out In The Second Round
HillGuy replied to HillGuy's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Correct...thank you Bobcat...It was late and I was delirious and I should have double spaced once more before my comments ;D One thing I left out was that the Hill brought a huge house of fans on the 75 mi trek to Waller. My daughter (and I) wanted to personally thank everyone who came out and got loud and roudy! It makes a difference. -
Lady Eagles fall in area round playoff game From sports staff reports Baytown Sun Published February 21, 2009 - Updated 52 minutes ago WALLER — The Barbers Hill Lady Eagles girls basketball season came to an end Friday night with a 55-45 loss to Manor in the area round of the Class 4A playoffs. Shannon Evans and Morgan Anderson led the way for the Lady Eagles with Evans picking up 14 points and Anderson picking up nine points. The Lady Eagles finished their year at 26-10 overall. This is where I predicted we would end out the year but we had a chance to pull this one out, coming back to within 3 points with under 2 min. Manor is SOLID with very quick athletes and good post play. Generally they out rebounded us, particularly in the 3rd, and converted those rebounds to points, outscoring us 18-4. That district with Hays, Del Valle and Manor is TOUGH! But no worries, the young Lady Eagles had a great year and will come back re-loaded. We lose one much loved senior in B. Gibbs, but my prediction for next Feb: Regional Finals!! Way to go girls, great effort and great season.

That was coaching masterpiece. Slowed down Willis's fast offense!
