I would love to see that. I am predicting Deaver winning 7-6 6-2. But i am going for the underdog. Because its his senior year and i hope he does well his last year. -
haha not deaf, but i have only heard of the doubles team and they number 1 singles players. Everyone else is a mystery to me
-
I have only heard of three of them

Well i do know that Minick had a 3-0 lead on Deaver. And Minicks Serve is absolutely terrible, but i have heard that it is getting alot better. Deaver won on power and placement i believe, I did not see the match at Westbrook in person, but someone filmed it for me. And Deaver came out to a shaky start, probably because he hadn't played anyone good over the whole course of the year haha. But then he started cranking on Minicks second serve. It should be a better match next time around i hope. How do you think they match up in state 3A. I think these two could both come out of this area and make it to the state tourney. What is everyones opinion on this? -

Well I know Deaver hasn't lost. I think he is somewhere around 10-0 or higher (I think hes played 3 or 4 tournaments). I believe Minick is 5-1(Hes only played 2 tournaments). Girls i have no idea. I could find out though. -

You make a very good point sportsfan89. Minick has only won two matches in the champ bracket. And they were won last year in the Woodlands. But here is the point im trying to make, even though Minick has struggled against some of the weaker players(even though he has advanced threw the rounds with ease as well), he steps it up when he plays a better player. Last year at regionals he played a guy from Robinson who was clearly a better player, but Minick took it to a third set and he actually should have won the match. He was up 4-1 in the third set. Everyone that i have talked to says that Deaver will blow Minick out of the water, which me might. But if Minick steps it up like we know he can, then it will be a fight. You also have to put into play that it is his senior year and he will definately be giving it his all. Deaver and Minick are in a completely different league than anyone in these tennis tournaments. But come to the finals and we will just have to see how this unfolds. Just make sure I'm clear, I did not say Minick would win. -
I would say Warren, but they only have 3 good guy players. That is why i can't say Hardin-Jefferson either. Both of this teams have a good lineup, but they dont have a full good lineup. But on the other hand who else is there? So if these two teams played, Minick would win the singles and Warrens doubles team would win. So I would say its a mix between the two teams.

Ok I agree with the Warren doubles team, they are both good players. Salina Aranda then Jessica Phelps. Orangefield doubles team of talbot and erin are really good. Boys singles is really tough to say. Deaver is amazing and Minick too. And they are both in the same district. How will this go in the final? I think Deaver and Minick are by far the two best players in the area. And same for Salina and Jessica in girls. I think now that Minick has won a tourny, he will be more relaxed the next time he plays Deaver. And it will be a better match. It should be good. This season has been great. And will continue to be -
Good observation, but you also have to put in to play that Minick is the only one who has even given Deavers a run for his money. Deavers has been running over everybody. I think Deavers might be scarred of what Minick could do. I still think fundemently Deavers is a better player, but Minick will be ready for this match. It will be a great match to watch. And now that Minick has won a tournament that takes some pressure off of him. I might take off to go watch this match. Wouldn't it be great if they met in the district, regional, and state final. These two are definately capable. What do you think?

Well I just got some news from someone who talked to the Hardin-Jefferson Superintendent. And he said "There is no school closings this week. School will run as normal. If you want to go to the game, then go to the game it will be an excused abscence. But due to parents having to find babysitters and other things we cannot afford to close school. If you do go to the game, we might ask for a ticket stub or something to prove that you went to the game. But as of right now there are no intentions to close school." Thats is the news I got. If i find out something different ill let you know.

Yes, Matt Minick of Hardin-Jefferson beat Jude Lane in the final 6-4 6-0.
-
This years disrtict 21-3A will be a close race for the team championship. Hardin-Jefferson and Kirbywille have both won for about 20 years now in their own districts, but now they are joined together and other schools will be in the running too. Who will take the cake and who will will win in boys and girls singles, doubles, mixed doubles?

Oh it was not pretty last night, but non the less congradulations Hawks. Just remember you are good enough to go far, but if you play like ya did last night then we could be coming home early. But im routing for ya, GO HAWKS! -
Oh sorry
-
From what i see, there is no reason why Ryan Donahoe should be left off the All Star Team. He is arguably the best player in SETX High School Basketball. And I will agree about messing with HJ Fans, they are crazy. And they are right most of the time. And what are your stats on Tramain? How does he match up against Donahoe? I think if you look further into this, you might find out why we are putting Donahoe in front of Tramain.
-
Who is his serve coach? I thought he took from that guy from Pinewood.
-
My point exactly Baller. I started to think who has the most experience. Minick has been to regionals the past three years, but has not advanced. Deavers in his 1st year advanced to state. Even though Minick has not made it to state, i believe he has the edge in this due to his experience in the next level. It will all depend who is willing to work the hardest to advance. From what i hear, Minick needs his serve improved. Then i will see if he has what it takes.
-
Yes Minick did play Deavers in the Semis of the Lamar tournament. He was the only one that looked to give any competition to Deavers. Both players looked good, but Deavers took advantage of Minick's serve. He took alot of Minick's serves and crushed it for mainly winners. Minick had a 3-0 lead in the 1st set.Due to a Great start and amazing returns. I think if Minick can get his serve up to par then he will be a true competitor for Deavers. Minick broke Deavers for most of his games, but could not hold serve. They should have met in the Finals, but Minick wasn't seeded and was placed in Deavers draw. Deavers and Minick are unbelieveable. This will be interesting to watch as the year goes on. I can see both players in the state meet. I will post more information as soon as i know it.
-
I think HJ will pull it out again Silsbee, because they played extremely well against them without there star player. I think HJ could possibly be in the mix. I think Wos and KVille will both lose 1 and HJ will be up there too. should be great to watch
-
I agree i think salina could be our best chance at a state title. I think Matt Deaver will be to young to complete this goal this year, but he will surely accomplish it in the near future. Matt Minick is a veteran in my opinion. He has been in this situation a few times, but he still hasn't gotten past the goal in which he wishes to accomplish. I hear he is working hard, but will it be hard enough. That lost last year in regionals really hurt him. And the crazy thing is that all three of these players are in the same district. If i was yall i would go out and check this district out. The match im waiting to see is Minick vs. Deaver in the final of district 21-3A
-
Yes Matthew Deavers will be tough to beat this year. But he will have a tough district this year, he will have to face a tough competitor in district from Hardin-Jefferson and they could possibly meet again in the regional finals. Both Minick and Deavers will be tough to beat this year. Who will pull this match out?
-
Tennis this year is going to be competitive who will be the player everyone is looking at? Any of these young athletes could be headed for a state title. Give your opinions
-
Once again Hardin-Jefferson is defeated by one point. They were up in both games and then it ended up the other way. It has to be tough for these guys, but at least you know you wont be able to count out HJ in district 21 3A. Two very good games and they will have to step it up to make it to the playoffs. Congradulations BC on a great game.
