Just a little trivia.....I once heard the question asked on ESPN I believe..... "What was the greatest feat ever accomplished in sports?" I thought for sure it had to be DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak, but it wasn't. It's Johnny Unitas throwing a TD pass in 47 straight games. Go Pence!
This would be a great thread... Two to consider are 5714 strikeouts and 7 no hitters - Nolan Ryan And never won a Cy Young! ??? Go Pence! -

NH5D began at the University of Virginia in 2002 when three friends decided to form their own holiday. Late the next day when the three friends woke up, they remembered they'd decided to form their own holiday and decided to actually do it!The idea was simple, that you could better someone's day by going into your community and offering even strangers high fives. The holiday has evolved to the point that a scholarship has been set up to help a deserving student in the spirit of high fiving!
A pitched ball to a catcher is never scored an error, it's either a wild pitch or pass ball.
Admin always right!! Although described as battery errors, passed balls and wild pitches are counted separately from other errors. See Rule 10.14: (f) Because the pitcher and catcher handle the ball much more than other fielders, certain misplays on pitched balls are defined in Rule 10.15 as wild pitches and passed balls. No error shall be charged when a wild pitch or passed ball is scored. (1) No error shall be charged when the batter is awarded first base on four called balls or because he was touched by a pitched ball, or when he reaches first base as the result of a wild pitch or passed ball. (i) When the third strike is a wild pitch, permitting the batter to reach first base, score a strikeout and a wild pitch. (ii) When the third strike is a passed ball, permitting the batter to reach first base, score a strikeout and a passed ball. (2) No error shall be charged when a runner or runners advance as the result of a passed ball, a wild pitch or a balk. (i) When the fourth called ball is a wild pitch or a passed ball, and as a result (a) the batter runner advances to a base beyond first base; (b) any runner forced to advance by the base on balls advances more than one base, or (c) any runner, not forced to advance, advances one or more bases, score the base on balls, and also the wild pitch or passed ball, as the case may be; (ii) When the catcher recovers the ball after a wild pitch or passed ball on the third strike, and throws out the batter runner at first base, or tags out the batter runner, but another runner or runners advance, score the strikeout, the putout and assists, if any, and credit the advance of the other runner or runners as having been made on the play.
My opinion is this, they made a commitment to the HS team by participating in the meet. If they no showed because of "select" then they need to be kicked off the team. "Select" means paying money to someone just so they can tell your kid that they are the best, and that the HS coaches aren't doing enough to get little "johnny" or "susie" a scholarship. Little Johnny and Susie might be the worst athletes or even students in the school.
I agree High School should be priority over select but your definition of a select team is way off base...if you think your kid is good enough to play college ball and you're hanging your hopes strictly on the HS coach for recruitment...shame on you! Select teams in all sports offer great exposure...allows the college coaches of their chosen sport to see them in the off season.

Manny fails another steroid test.. Opts to RETIRE!
LumRaiderFan replied to AJ25's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Without steroids he would have still been great...what a shame...but I want the MLB to have a zero tolerance on steroids so no up and comer ever feels like it's worth the risk. Success should = God given talent + hard work...nothing else! -

Roy Halladay Cliff Lee Roy Oswalt Cole Hamels
IMO that's probably the best 4-starter rotation in the history of baseball. Halladay and Lee would both be the ace on any other team in the league, and Hamels and Oswalt would be the ace on at least half of the teams in the league.
It's a good one...kinda reminds me of some of the Braves rotations in the 90s Maddux Glavine Smoltz Neagle Millwood

They have one of the best 3rd basemen in the area and I heard their star player was out with an ankle injury so they'll be tough to beat next go-around if he's back.
My boy also plays for Nederland.... and it will be the same outcome next time we play ;)..3rd basemen...Duplant , Gizzy , Hagler , ....Just a few good 3rd basemen that I can think of....I could be wrong ..But I thought Stanley(star player) was the shortstop ..but he was hurt(ankle) so he was on 2nd and he did bat..But I could be wrong ..Everybody is tough to beat in this district on any given night!
Wayne Stanley - Senior did not play ankle injury Ryan Stanley - Sophomore played 2nd It will be a different outcome next time...unless you guys get another weather break! ;)
