Can ASA Rec Softball exist at a Little League Ball Park?
tpriddy replied to tpriddy's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Thanks to everyone who has replied and you as well Troy M. You are correct that no one told ME no. In the PAST (other boards) have said NO (not to me) to the idea of having ASA out there. I was simply coming on here to ask to see if I could get any type of info to submit to you guys. I was not trying to bash the board or put you guys in a negative light at all. The Board when I showed up and asked was very receptive to the idea and I appreciate that. Has anyone gone through it or is anyone setup in this way (LL Boys and ASA Girls) at the same complex. I would like to know how they handle this at there ball parks. Does PN or Vidor share fields with LL and ASA if so what is there arraingment just as Troy M stated. Troy M, I will give you a call tomorrow. Thanks. -
I ask this because in Lumberton the girls play Little League Softball and the number of girls playing are dwindling fast. Obviously these days the number of kids playing is dropping for many different reasons. Last year the 14U, 12U and 10U were forced (by numbers) to play against other little league softball teams (Silsbee, Fred, Ozen area of Beaumont) in the district and no offense to any of these other towns but there just was no competiton and the girls were bored. I would like to see the Lumberton Girls Softball to move to ASA so that they can start competing against the teams they will face later in HS (PNG, Ned, Vidor, LCM and Central) but the only fields available are a part of the Lumberton Little League and the board has said NO to ASA. If I could come up with something to present to them besides better competetion (Money, concessions, insurance and charter) I might be able to change this thought. Right now the alternative is to get a group and go play the Beaumont ASA league. Thanks for any input.

Not being around softball back then, I have some questions. What brought that group of girls together? What made them special at 10u or when did you as parents and friends realize they were a special group of girls? I have read about there accomplishments and have met several of the ladies from this team and they have been it has been great for my daughter to learn from them. I also hope that my daughter can one day be part of a great team where a majority or all of the girls reach there dreams and are remember and talked about for a long time Just curious if there is something or somebody that really made this happen so maybe it can happen again around this area. Thanks

You can not look at a teams record before district this is High School Football! Key injuries at any point in the season in HS Football makes a big difference. Coaches are still trying different alignments, sets, etc etc to see what works for their team. This isnt college or NFL where if a three or four star player gets hurt there is another 3 or 4 star player waiting on the bench to take his place. District 20-4a preseason Central 1-2 both losses to 5a playoff teams. Ozen 1-2 both losses to 5a playoff teams. LCM 3-0 preseason only lost 3 games in district but didn't make the playoffs and put some points on the board this year and had key injury at end of season. Livingston 3-0 preseason only lost 3 games in district got beat by a good Dayton team in playoffs Lumberton 3-0 preseason had many injuries throughout the year had Central beat until the last two minutes of game. Nederland 1-2 preseason. Had injuries and a lot of team turmoil at the beginning of season. Has been a back and fourth year for them. Vidor 0-3 preseason I guess you could say they were a pushover but they always play tough everygame. Then PNG They start the season 1-4 and have not looked in the rear view mirror since. I would say both of these districts are tough.

Found this on another site. I saw it when I was serving this proud country of mine. Merry Christmas, My Friend Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney, with presents to give and to see just who in this home did live. As I looked all about, a strange sight did I see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand. On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land. With medals and badges, awards of all kind, a sobering thought soon came to my mind. For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen. This was the home of a U.S. Marine. I'd heard stories about them, I had to see more, so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door. And there he lay sleeping, silent alone. Curled up in the floor in his one-bedroom home. He seemed so gentle, his face so serene. Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine. Was this the hero, of whom I'd just read? Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed? His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan. I soon understood, this was more than a man. For I realized the families that I saw that night, owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight. Soon around the Nation, the children would play. And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year, because of Marines like this one lying here. I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home. Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye. I dropped to my knees and started to cry. He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice, "Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice. I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more. My life is my God, my country, my Corps." With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I watched him for hours, so silent and still. I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill. So I took off my jacket, the one made of red, and covered this Marine from his toes to his head. Then I put on his t-shirt of scarlet and gold, with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold. And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride, and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside. I didn't want to leave him so quiet in the night. This guardian of honor so willing to fight. But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure, said "Carry on, Santa, its Christmas day, all secure." One look at my watch and I knew he was right, Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight. This poem was written in 1986 by James M. Schmidt, who was a Lance Corporal stationed in Washington, D.C., at the time.

SETXsports.com PLAYOFF CENTRAL - WEEK 10

I'm a little confused with the Nederland scenario. They're in with a win OR a 2 pt win?
I understand, and I will try to explain it out because the scenario has as much to do with whether PNG wins. There is a scenario in which PNG, Nederland and Livingston all win. That would give PNG a 5-2 mark and leave LCM, Nederland and Livingston with identical 3-3 marks. The first tiebreaker, head to head would decide nothing, so you go to the point spread tiebreaker, which currently has LCM at +8 (57-49 win over Livingston), Livingston as -3 (21-16 win over Nederland and 57-49 loss to LCM) and Nederland at -5 (21-16 loss to Livingston. So in order for Nederland to get into the playoffs in this scenario, the must beat LCM by 3 points or more to get a -2 or better on the point differential. Like I said, it is only in the event that both PNG and Livingston win, too. But it is a possibility which prevented me from saying just a Nederland win gets them in.
So what happens if Nederland wins by11? Both Livingston and LCM have -3. -
Why does everybody keep saying their last game? As crazy as this district has been this year Nederland and Livingston could very well lose putting Lumberton in the playoffs with a win over Ozen. If Nederland and Livingston lose and Lumberton falls flat and loses. Vidor would be in with a 3-7 record because of who they beat.

SETXsports.com HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RANKINGS - WEEK 7
tpriddy replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you do the match up way who is better - PNG, Livingston or Lumberton? PNG put it to Lumberton, Livingston pulled out a close one against PNG in a shoot out and Lumberton got a win against Livingston. They just need to have a line that lumps all of 20-4A -
20-4A..Who's got the toughest remaining schedule?

So is it Bad D in the district or just very high octane offenses that any D is going to struggle against. I still say bad D. -
