I wasnt at the game Dickie, so I wont tell you what should have happened, but I will just agree to disagree with you about that team. Nederland will be fine and those kids know it will be time to step up. Didnt most people agree Nederland could split these games in district with Ozen and Central? All that changed during the season as people started taking notice of what Nederland had going and they became the story of most Sports sections in the news! Undefeated again after losing so much? You say peaking. I say best efforts by the other teams.. The other team earned the win. Not because the other team was superior in talent. -

DickieV, these kids have come out and proven every single person outside of Nederland wrong this year.. The only things said about Nederland were that is was a rebuilding season and there is no way they can win after losing all that talent last year! These guys this year have put in the work and effort to be just as good, and I do believe they went undefeated through the first half of district.. You know what that means? EVERY team is gunning for you! You are going to every team's best! People know who the team to beat is.. I bet Nederland has gotten the best effort Central and Ozen in those past two games because they didnt like the idea of Nederland winning district AGAIN with a chance of going undefeated ;) Congrats to Ozen on a big win! Keep your heads up Dogs! This is now makes these last games huge! -

Plus the recruiting class for 2013 is coming in and my boy Rasheed will give him some comp for playing time ;)
You got that right! That kid plays hard! Interesting Question about district 20-4A

Well, does that mean the shoe is on the other foot? HJ beat Nederland pretty badly during the same part of the season. By your reasoning, what kind of a case do you have the Nederland shouldn't be 3rd?
HJ was going to be better this year.. But you are right, same situation here just different foot ;) Im sure Nederland would compete better than first advertised.. Teams pull it together better for District games, and I think they would challenge for first or second.. But im done with this thread unless something else gets said off-the-wall ;) -
Interesting Question about district 20-4A
CThoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Go look up results from some games in 20-4A where a team heavily favored had to squeak out a win.. I bet I can tell you the reason for that one, Looking past the opponent! I never said I didnt agree with anyone out there about HJ and Silsbee finishing 1,2 in 20-4A IF they were there.. All I wanted to make known is that the success from 3A wouldnt make them automatic winners.. Teams learn how to play of press from game-time reps against it, and I know teams in this district would find the ways around it, and make HJ or Silsbee beat you in the Half-court.. The biggest reason for the success for HJ and Silsbee is the press.. They dont have to have to have great players, but the right ones to run the system.. Can u agree on that? -

It's also kinda funny that you keep ignoring the fact that HJ beat the crap out of the two best teams in 20-4A this year, and Silsbee beat the #3 team. Yes, those two teams would be "near the top", because at the top is "near the top".
Alright buddy, I think you dont seem to get it.. I will again give the credit to HJ and Silsbee for defeating the best teams 20-4A has to offer.. I Only take offense to people assuming the dominance would be the same in this district, just because your record from your 3A district says you win lots of games.. Not buying it.. Competitive week-in and week-out, unlike you guys, who pencil in the Silsbee game so you know when you have to get players ready to play basketball.. Not saying I know everything or that I know more than the other guy, just making an opinion and adding a thought that some might want to consider -

Interesting Question about district 20-4A
SO again, HJ's beaten the top two teams in 20-4A by a combined 40 points, and also beaten the #3 team badly in a scrimmage, and the #4 team four separate times this season. Worth noting that the best team in 20-4A also only beat the #3 team in 21-3A by two earlier in the year, and also that Nederland made their blowout loss to HJ slightly more respectable when HJ put their mop-up players in the game in the 4th. Silsbee has a win against the #3 team in 20-4A, and has beaten Central 3 times in a row and Ozen 3 of the last 4 times they've played. Why is it so silly to think that these two teams would have such a tough time transitioning into 20-4A and winning and taking second in that district this year?
They would be good and towards the the top, but I dont want people assuming they would be first and second again just because it happens like a religion in their respective 3A district..

speaking of elite, we're not going to put an elite tag on a team that's been to state twice, and regionals what 5 times, in the last 6 years? that's 34-1 this year, and 8-0 against the local district a classification up, including two wins totalling nearly a 40-point margin against the best two teams in that district? your bias is showing, and it's irrational. the same argument can be made for silsbee. they've been to regionals nearly every year in the past 5 or 6, and have represented our area at state. they're not one of the elite local teams? i guess you think it should be Nederland, because they're looking for a 3-peat in a district that hasn't been strong in 5 years? you got it, then. Nederland's the elite team in the area, they just aren't as good as the two best teams in 21-3A, and if they had to play each team twice in district, they'd be lucky to pull out 1 win in the 4 games this year.
No they are not.... ::)...elite? NO...they are a good, well coached team..Elite? they are not... Normally it isnt the case but this year it just happens that the top two teams in the area are from the same 3-a district. If someone would have asked me before the year started if that was a likely outcome, I would have said probably not. Even though it is an unlikely rarity, it is what it is and discussions wont change it. Furthermore, the two teams dont win just because they press- they win because they are better than the other team(s) they played against. All good coaches have their teams prepared for a press, so it was no surprise when it happened. Face it, the press is effective and it takes intelligence, athleticism, and speed to be effective. The two teams have those qualities in varying degrees.
Never said the press wasnt effective.. Just trying to help you understand some of these results.. You can game-plan as much as you want, but it will beat you if your team doesnt get reps and see it enough.. Which is my point to the 20-4A.. If those teams saw it on a regular basis, you would see that HJ and Silsbee arent leaps and bounds ahead these teams.. Just dont want people saying they would come into the district thinking its going to be just another cake-walk to the play-offs
No doubt that if they saw it on a regular basis, they would adjust. But, then again, so would Silsbee and HJ against whatever they would see in that district on a regular basis. Let go of it. HJ beat Nederland this year and you cant make that go away like you tried once already when you cried "Oh yeah? Let em play again and see what happens". I have already stated this was an abnormal year in the local basketball ranks but you cant rewrite history and the results speak unchangeable volumes.
:D Thats a cute way to put it Nash.. I know HJ beat Nederland, more power to them, just dont like people throwing the Elite tag on those teams and think they are easily winners wherever they go.. Sorry, but that is the perception given off by the post I have read, and didnt want to just sit around anymore
Not cute- just plain factual. It is no secret that you have a dislike for HJ and I have no problem with that. Please show me where someone said they are ELITE. Where did someone say they are easily winners wherever they go? Dont you think it is a good idea to be able to substantiate an allegation when making one? You are struggling with the FACT that they are a very good team this year ( better than you expected). The good news is you can spout all the buzzwords and lingo you wish from a self perceived lofty perspective but you still can't change what has already taken place.
Ha!! I knew they were good! I knew they had players coming back! I picked them to sweep Silsbee this year.. Wanna go look up that record since you enjoy trying to run this site so much? Some words are easy to be perceived from other comments.. Every post seems to be either HJ people believing they are the best to walk in a gym, and they rest are trying to show you it wouldnt be as easy a transition as you and others would like to think. Now I knew this thread was going to be something like this and its just stupid. Proud of HJ and Silsbee for beating 20-4A in all the games this year. Good luck with playoffs. Must be nice in that district getting to make play-off t-shirts before the season even starts -

Interesting Question about district 20-4A
CThoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Its a different style of Ball then what the teams in 20-4A are used to playing.. Execution and fundamentals in the Half-court are more important and mean more in getting a victory.. As for HJ and Silsbee, better warm-up your legs and have press-breaks ready.. I think the 20-4A teams would perform much better if they were used the those types of games.. I can take heat for this comment and wont bother me, but Silsbee and HJ's players arent studs by any means.. They fit the system, like a glove.. Run the press, attack, sub when you are tired.. -
Interesting Question about district 20-4A
CThoops replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sure, HJ and Silsbee have preformed very well against the top teams in 20-4A early in the season. Not taking anything away from them winning those games.. But the real difference here is that in 20-4A, there are no games you can really take lightly or the your opponent is going to come out and really shock you.. HJ and Silsbee have a some weeks where they know they dont have to get hyped up for, or dont have to really try.. I dont think it would be such an easy transition for them into the district.. Every team plays harder when a win actually means something, aka, closer to a play-off spot.. You put those teams into a district with Ozen, Central, and now Nederland, and you expect one of those teams to just sit out? Better come to play every single game because those wins are going to be harder and more important to get.. Just my opinion on it, It is just hypothetical 8) -

Texas has potential.. They have shown they can compete with any team in the Big12, but late-game execution is hurting.. And the lack of some consistent inside game gets them beat often too.. If Coach Rick can convince JB to come back to school, next years team will be ranked top 10 pre-season after adding these recruits
-
I wouldnt be surprised if this isnt just one of those games that makes you refocus on the real goal.. District Championship! Going undefeated is tough and a harder to do each week you get closer to that goal happening.. Dont like to lose, but this might not be a bad loss.. Lesson to be learned from this.. Just because you show up to the gym, doesnt mean you are going to win.. Lets go Dogs!
-
Pretty sure English and staff will be prepared for a triangle and 2 defense for the next time somebody tries to run that against Nederland.. This game is also a wake-up call for those players, gotta come to play every game because everybody is gonna give you their best! You have the bull's eye on your back in this district now
